Atleast had they drafted and developed like it's football, we might've had our quarterback/#1 center by now. We just decided to go by who'd have the best chance at surviving against a bear in the middle of a blizzard. That was my ''draft like it's football'' phase. I thought a lot of Nicolas Baptiste as a result. lolololol
Who was the last guy who united Grant, the HFHab gang, and Trevor Timmons? McCarron?

Centers have more value but you are passing on a future Hossa caliber player for a future Plekanec type. Plekanec is a hell of a player but Hossa is a hall of fameI think its pretty clear that in the new nhl, Centers and D's are holding the most value. Youre in need of a top 6 winger, theres always a bunch of them on ufa or trade market, so im not that sure that BPA is still the way to go.
Probably Fucale to be honest.
McKenzie had Kotkaniemi at 18 in his mid season rankings. If he doesn't crack top 10 I would not take him in top 6. Last guy who rose dramatically late in year topped off by great u18 was Kostitsyn. He was good player but man did we ever pass on talent on that mistake. Corey Perry, Praise, etc...I'd wait for McKenzie's list to come out before commenting on rankings. He was already at 10 and then had a very strong U18 as a centre and had a strong combine (both in terms of measurements and testing). We'll see where he winds up and what the report is in a few days.
Michigan Live has an interesting excerpt from Red Line Report on Kotkaniemi:
"Big, strong center is a horse who plays a pro style power game. Tall, rangy frame and has a fine skill-set with quick, soft hands and powerful shot. Is persistent and aggressive on the forecheck. Steals a lot of pucks from behind. Has a pro quality wrist shot from a quick release but needs to shoot more instead of always looking to pass. He's a tireless worker who plays hard and makes plays for his wingers with good vision. Makes linemates better. Strong along the boards and difficult to contain in one-on-one situations -- shields the puck well and is skilled in tight. Gets involved in the dirty areas and initiates contact often -- shows good physical presence. Still growing into his frame and should develop into quite a handful once he fills out. Can get caught running around in his own end at times."If our scouts do think he's the BPA (or right in that mix), I definitely wouldn't mind him.

Will be interesting to see who he pushes down.McKenzie pretty much confirmed he's gonna be in his top 5.

Sounded like both Tkachuk and Zadina with Zadina potentially dropping behind Tkachuk. I believe he also mentioned that Dobson should rate out to the 2nd highest D man taken.
Dobson was unanimous #2 defender.
Hossa? Speedy defensive winger..... Ummmm no.....Centers have more value but you are passing on a future Hossa caliber player for a future Plekanec type. Plekanec is a hell of a player but Hossa is a hall of fame

Agreed. This is where I come for my draft info. I'm very busy most of the time, and don't get to follow everything the way I'd like to. I love the draft, and trust a number of regular posters in this thread to keep me informed. Some very bright people here. This thread allows me to sound very informed when I discuss the draft with my coworkers. Lol. I've been reading here for years, and haven't really been misled yet, so long as I stick to the guys I trust.Honestly, this thread is ahead of the curve on most prospects. We had Nils Lundkvist climbing the charts long before others did.
I myself can boast that I had Dobson very high long before others were willing to put him in the top ten.
Which is sort of strange, considering what Tkachuk and Zadina did in last year's U18 and, more importantly in this year's U20, which is a much, much stronger tournement. The centre vs winger argument is and should be valid but not to the extent some make it to be.U18 mainly, where he dominated and showed the world he was a C.
Couplee with poor showings by Tkakchuk, Zadina
Oh and the combine, which is pretty huge.
If McK says Kotkaniemi is a top 5, I'm fine if we take him with the 3rd.
