I also brought up the WJC but you had an excuse...

Also disagree on much of that. Svechnikov is the more dynamic offensive player due to being bigger and a better skater, but Zadina IMO has better hands, a better shot, is more physical, competes harder, and is a smarter player. Not saying Svechnikov isn't any of those things, but Zadina really is a hard working and smart player who goes to where he needs to in order to score.

But whatever... if you guys want to be (in typical self hating habs fan fashion) a debbie downer about missing out on Svechnikov when we have the opportunity to draft Zadina, you can do that. (not directed just at you btw)

Lol, it was your excuse originally. You said that ''Svechnikov benefitted greatly from superior line mates.'' But somehow that's not relevant when Zadina is on the ice with Necas and Kaut?

I'm going to need a quotable from you here: Svechnikov vs Zadina, who are you picking?

Is there anyone that has it the other way around? I don't think I've seen anyone say that Svechnikov is closer to Zadina.
It really shouldn't be anywhere close, pure tool wise Svechnikov is on a different level. Size, speed, puck skills, shot, etc. he's superior in all those categories. He can play a north-south power game better, he can play an east-west possession game better. All you need to do is watch a few Barrie games, the dude is everything a pro winger should to be.

Bro, all you need to do is watch the top prospects game and that will tell you everything. Svech sucks.

No. One scout actually has Svechnikov at #1 and Dahlin at #2, but for everyone else this is the Dahlin - Svechnikov draft.

There are 2 Premiere players at the top then everyone else is one step behind.

The Matthews - Laine draft really is a good comparison. Everyone knew they were #1 and #2, with a lot of good players behind them.

Taken behind them was Dubois at #3 (not rated that high), Clayton Keller (not rated in top 10 but went #7) and Sergachev.

Others include McAvoy, M. Tkachuk & Chychrun and Kunin as NHLers so far.

2 years later Matthews and Laine are still the best.

Players who are question marks from that draft: Puljujarvi, Juolevi, Alex Nylander & Logan Brown.

One year I donated a $100 to one of those cancer lotteries contests. I didn't think I'd win anything, because I never do, but I figured it was something good to donate to. I won my $100 back.

So I ended up not donating anything and not winning anything. It was a stalemate victory.

Winning the #3 pick in this draft felt the same like it didn't feel like winning anything at all.

In that Matthews/Laine draft we were so close to getting Laine. In this draft we were so close again to #2. Man, it sucks.

If we can get a PLD type, I'd be happy with the 3rd pick.

This is a great post. The top 2 are set in stone. Buffalo and Carolina know what they are getting. After that, teams can make the right or wrong pick because it is so close. We are the first in line to get it right or wrong.

Exactly, if that excuse is relevant to Zadina at the WJC it should be relevant to Svechnikov in the OHL.

I already have said I'd take Svechnikov due to his dynamicism and upside. Just I wouldn't be shocked at all of Zadina ends up the better the player.

Their situations at the WJC were polar opposites. Zadina was given a top drafted prospect in Necas as his centre while playing first line. Svech was playing 4th line on a poorly structured team and still had a point per game.

What exactly was Svechnikov's better situation in Barrie?

In Barrie, Svechnikov had friends and former teammates to play with, and then was gifted Luchuk via trade- and if I recall when Svech was on that tear, it wasn't just him that entire line just caught fire. Zadina never found such chemistry in Halifax yet still managed to lead the Q in even strength goals as a CHL rookie.

Pretty much any player the Habs could pick is better than Dahlin and Svech.
1. Never said I had Zadina over Svechnikov, my point is just they are on the same tier.
2. Pull a NP and check my post history, I've been talking up Zadina since the WJC way before I ever even thought we'd have a chance at him.

Svechnikov was basically on a tear all year. 40 goals in 44 games.

Luchuk and Sokolov are very good players but only played 38 and 29 games with Barrie respectively.

Svechnikov's incredible point streak happened to coincide with the arrival of Luchuk. He benefitted from incredible team chemistry in Barrie. He didn't have that chemistry at the WJC. It was the opposite for Zadina.

He had 10 goals in his first 10 games of the season..... Svechnikov was a scorer before Luchuk got there.

He put up 4 points and dominated anytime he was on the ice at the WJC... weve told you that about 200 times, its getting f***ing annoying.

Svechnikov had 10 goals and 4 assists in his first 10 games pre injury. 1 goal and 2 assists in the 3 games he came back before Luchuk arrived.

Was the rest of the season really a "hot streak" that coincided with Luchuk or just development? If you're calling the rest of the season a hot streak you are basically saying his goal per game start to his OHL career was the low point. In which case he blows Zadina out of the water.

It's ok to have different opinions on these boards. Don't let it get to you and resort to levels that some go to. If you are right later on about your opinion, rub it in peoples face. But also be prepared to have it thrown in yours if you are wrong.
