This series is going to be a blood bath, the officials completely lost control of tonight's game. I said it on the main boards. It might be the worst officiated game I've seen since in a sports game since the Lakers/Kings 2002. It wasn't that bad (I doubt anything will ever touch that), but oh boy was it ugly.
I'm thinking it will come back to Boston tied 2-2. It's going to be one of the better series in the first round.

Or the 2016 World Cup.

Justin Abdelkader and Ryan Callahan (in 2016!) in a best vs. best tournament.

Dean could find success again taking over a team like Edmonton with in-house skilled players, but he simply had zero idea how to scout, draft and develop skilled forwards.

Ugh, yeah that was embarrassing. I believe that became my tipping point in identifying how far removed he was from today's game.

His stubbornness and arrogance and flippant attitude towards the team that went on to win back-to-back Cups and has the longest playoff streak in the NHL really showed that he couldn't adapt and evolve. Hence, the Kings continue to pay for his mistakes.

And it wasn't just the fact that he made those awful roster choices in the first place, it was that he doubled down on them after the disastrous showing in the tournament.

Why is there a scrum after every stoppage of play when Calgary plays? Good teams don't do this. It is not a sign of toughness. I don't remember the Kings and Blackhawks engaging in that type of BS after every whistle in 2013 and 2014.

Leafs D is soft, Marner is a puss and guys like Hainsey and Marleau aren’t the types of vets that lead by example in the playoffs.

Atleast they finally called one.

That 4th overall bum Sam Bennett punching people after the intermission.

I really hope the Avs score on the fresh ice.

Are we expecting Marner to play a heavy game and be gritty?

I’d take him on my team in a heartbeat. Love his game. p***y or not.

Dean tried to recreate that USA team from 2000's, the problem was those guy were tough and could score, his team couldn't. Plus after game 1, nobody wanted to get hurt playing that heavy style.

That porn moustache Bennett is sporting is awful. Is he trying to pay homage to John Holmes with that thing on his lip? Jeebus.

He's such a bum.

When you're a star player you can sport a stache like that and wear a # in the 90's. When you're a top 5 flop who sucks it just makes you look like an even bigger clown.

That episode of coffee with Bob, where he flat out said he didn't believe what he was seeing, and called it a fad. He then defended Sutter, after letting a 12 point lead slip away, then getting blown out of the playoffs by a team that was ...faster and more skilled.

"the new NHL" goes to **** when the playoffs start.

You even see star players like Pastrnak throwing his weight around. Watching the Isles/Pens series, you’re seeing them rattle dickheads like Malkin with big hits.

The Kings are neither fast, nor skilled, nor physical enough to keep up with these playoff teams. They’ll need to make some fundamental changes in order to compete that way.

I guess Dean Lombardi heavy hockey isn’t dead. Physical teams like BJs, Caps, and Bruins manhandling the “skilled” and “fast” teams.

Heavy hockey never really went away, we just stopped being good at it.

Yep, pretty much. Most of those guys from our Cup teams aged out and retired or just died.

But I agree with I think @BigKing ? here, that the amount of ticky-tack bullshit they called on us in playoffs after 2014 escalated and took some of the bite out of our physical game and we just couldn't compete on the other levels straight up.

It also helps having players who can skate and hit. Do the Kings have players capable of doing both?

Oh and they also have some talent too. I know, hard to believe that a team with the right balance could succeed.

Last year's Washington team is a good example. Oozing skill, but also big and going to beat you to a pulp.

I think people seem to think the Kings were just 'heavy hockey' but their 2014 team especially was insanely skilled and possibly the only thing stopping the Kings/Hawks from a threepeat was each other. They'd compete well in this 'era'. DL was right that JUST speed/skill was a flavor of the month. Have to be able to put it all together. The Pacific would pound you to a pulp before but they weren't worthless players either, Sharks and Ducks have had plenty of high-end skill over the years.

We're 2 games into each series now and I'm still shocked to see teams finishing their hits, still not used to it.

And all the guys bitchin about the ref's swallowing their whistles, gtfo. That's what it's all about, sometimes tensions run higher in other series than what we're used to.
