MacKinnon is up there with McDavid in skill and entertainment value. His explosiveness is Ovechkin-like.

I remember his draft year it was either him or Seth Jones and Sakic was like ummmm yeah we'll take the Skilled forward. Don't get me wrong I love Jones but McKinnon has completely made Colorado a contender again. Ahhhh wish we can get A DAMN FIRST OVERALL. Eff you NHL yes still bitter. Anyways this kid is so damn good.

Regular season 5 or playoff 5? Because if it's playoff 5 , then it's 2 games.
That's 5 or more playoff games. That crap doesnt belong in the sport. That was retaliation on a player for a clean hit.If that's only two games,I wouldnt be surprised if a Bruin player took a run on Kadri when he came back.

Yeah it's pretty cut and dry. Clear retaliation with clear previous incidents, no plausible deniability of the stick riding up the shoulder or something, and no plausible deniability of 'puck focused play' as it was long gone, on top of a previous history. Just a straight crosscheck to the face, followed by Kadri trying to fall on him and Bertuzzi him some more. Honestly maybe the dirtiest thing I've seen this year even if only for the blatantness of it.

I wonder what the puck possession numbers are for this Pittsburgh/Islanders game. Seems like a majority of the game is being played on the Pittsburgh side of the red line. Isles are definitely winning most of the board battles.

I think the series is a fair suspension, but I think it overshadowed what a dirty play it was by Debrusk on Marleau. That is an extremely dangerous play and he knew exactly what he was doing, that was clearly intent to injure, there was zero respect shown to one of the more respected guys in the entire league. I don't normally agree with what Sean Avery has to say but I think he was spot on in this instance. But then again this is Louie DeBrusk's kid, so the apple clearly hasn't fallen far from the tree.

Lou really has done a fantastic job with the Islanders. He was absolutely ripped to pieces for his moves last offseason in another case of internet GM's and analytics blogboys having absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

I get it as far as DeBrusks kid but he rode him into the boards. Maybe it was just because he did it where the stanchion used to be so the optics make it look even worse/more violent? Hard to say what his intent was there. Could he have let up? Yeah probably. Should he have? It's the playoffs.

The Islanders have a very interesting roster. They are the complete antithesis of other NHL rosters. Outside of Barzal, and maybe Beauvillier, no players of note under 25 years of age.

No player has a cap hit greater than $6M. Ladd and Bailey are the only contracts where they are over committed in terms of contract length, but with their cap hits it doesn't hurt the flexibility of their roster too much.

It's going to be interesting to see how far they go in the playoffs. Definitely an underdog worth rooting for in these playoffs.

There is a reason you very rarely see hits like that happen. It's dangerous, as Avery said it's kind of an unwritten rule that the players follow. You can be seriously injured hitting that, even with the padding on it.

And I've never understood the "It's the playoffs" logic to defend dangerous plays.

Barzal is just so incredible at possessing the puck it's similar to Datsyuk, you just can't take it from him.

And now Trotz has made him into a 200 foot player, it's hilarious how people just look at his stats and say "sophomore slump", he had 23 less points but had a considerably better season this year than he did last year. He will be a top 20 player in the league for the next decade.

Sure would have been nice to transition from Kopitar to Barzal, but we apparently needed more "grit and character" and less speed & skill. Seriously, it will be one of those trades that crushes you for 15 years, it will be our generations Larry Murphy trade.

Trotz is pushing all the right buttons the last couple of years. The Islanders are playing well.

HAve always respected him. He's got a great view of the game and players love playing for him. But what he did to the Isles this year is amazing . Last year, worst defensive team in the NHL, this year best defensive team. From 31 to 1, the broadcasters said today it's been 100 years since that feat occurred.\

Eberle has been very good

And major props to Anders Lee for shutting down Sid.

Kings went from 1-31. They are the reverse Islanders.
