I think it would have, he was on trade talks/rumors for at least a yr if not longer. It was just a matter of time. And Voracek and the BJ's 1st was out there for awhile, we (fans) read about that before it happened. Richards was the shock. Only heard about that a few days before, when a sports talk radio host predicted it ,based on him hearing Snider tell HOmer (Of RIchards ) i want him gone. He even predicted it was to LA. (from another source he knew in the front office). I still didn't believe it, until it happened.

I meant the deadline deal that brought Carts to LA. All conjecture at this point, but he's not a King if we don't make the Richards deal in the first place.

In regarding the MR comments, I would not do that deal over again. The Kings defense and structure won the first cup.

Without the Richards deal, there's no way to know what happens. Is Murray still fired? Is Schenn on the team to start the year? If Murray isn't fired, are King and Nolan there? Is Simmonds not on the 3rd line? Maybe things go differently in Columbus for Carter, who knows. How do you know Columbus wouldn't ask for Simmonds in a deal for Carter? Maybe it's Simmonds and Johnson for Carter plus someone else. Not sure you can just plug in one guy for another and everything else is the same. If the Kings get Richards, is Carter even on the team if Gagne had been healthy and scoring? If both Penner and Gagne were scoring, like they were supposed to, is Carter there? Then there are two LWers scoring, Brown never switches to the left side, and where's the room for Carter at C or RW?

Just too many variables to simply plug Carter in for Richards. Not to mention that we don't and can't know what Richards did for the locker room. Not just during the season, but the mindset the players were in when they got him. Instead of wow, ok, we got Mike Richards, back when that still meant something, they go into the 11-12 season coming off a disappointing loss to the Sharks with roughly the same roster, but with Schenn and minus Smyth I guess.

Click bait. Throw enough **** against the wall and hope something sticks with that guy.

I still recall the year they had him on Sportsnet. That was a joke.

He should stick to covering Poison and Dokken in dive bars, and leave the real hockey journalism to other folks.

The Kings have 0 Cups without Mike Richards. Fact.

I agree.

The Kings don't win a Stanley Cup with Stoll as the number 2 center.

Having Kopitar/Richards/Stoll/Fraser down the middle murdered teams.

They could not match the Kings dominant Center depth.

But they could be a better team now if they don't trade for Richards! I'd much rather go back in time, not trade for Richards and take my chances that they still win two Cups.

If one in the hand is worth two in the bush, how much is two in the hand worth?

If Blake learned anything from his late predecessor he won't make a deal for Kane. One year until UFA, didn't the Kings learn their lesson with Lucic?

Also, Muzzin and Martinez are both signed to longer term. If the Kings deal one of them, they better get back a forward with similar term.

If the Richards trade doesn't happen, the Smythe Division and Clarence Campbell banner would be an eyesore still because it'd be the only banners up in the rafters right now. Richards was the glue on those team.

Richards was tied for fourth in team scoring during the 2012 regular season and playoffs, and tied for second in team playoff goals. Richards also carried the offense in 2013 when Kopitar went AWOL.

Give me a ****ing break with this revisionist history GARBAGE.

I think Richards added a certain swagger and confidence to the 2012 team.

His physical play in Game 1 of the Vancouver series set the tone early for the Kings. Everyone on the team bought in, and I think Richards was a big part it.

Richards is arguably the most overrated hockey player of his generation. In fact, the Kings were worse, not better, after he was acquired. I don't how things would have turned out had the Richards deal not been made, but purely in terms of value it was a bad deal.

holy crap, people....go get some fresh air and step away from the keyboard.

I see these poor last three seasons have caused some people to lose their minds...:banghead:

No friggin' way. I do that trade over and over seeing he helped us to those Cups. He was a big part of those clubs, especially 12'. If you think otherwise, then you were not watching the games.

Btw, that would be a very hairy bush, tell her to at least trim it. This isn't 1983. :naughty:

Really, guys? We're doing this the Kings win the Cup without the Richards trade again? Let me put it kindly and say you're out of your ****ing minds. Good grief.

I would have traded Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, and anybody else for a guaranteed cup before 2012. Now we are talking about walking back two cup wins and "taking our chances"? I'm sorry, but that is pure insanity.
