I would have traded Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, and anybody else for a guaranteed cup before 2012. Now we are talking about walking back two cup wins and "taking our chances"? I'm sorry, but that is pure insanity.

A good example of victory being fleeting. It happens in a moment, and it eventually wears off. If you win, everything you did was right. Then if you don't stay on top, now we can look back and see the mistakes and flaws. If this or that was different, you might be in a better position to win today. Past accomplishments don't matter, because they might as well not have happened if you're a loser today.

What do the Kings get now for winning those Cups? Nothing. No extra points in the standings, or goals to start a game. Just memories, and these days, YouTube videos.

Kings pursuit of a top 6 forward news/bits

http://mynhltraderumors.com/nhl-rum...-vancouver-canucks-buffalo-sabres/2017/06/06/

From the 4th Period
The Kings may not be interested in trading Jake Muzzin for a player who has one year left on his contract, but they could be willing to move Alec Martinez or Brayden McNabb.

Forwards include JVR, Landy, Duchene, Kreider, Killorn or Palat. Kane not at the top of their list.

From the Buffalo News

Kings and Canucks at the top of the Kane trade list. Pegula tired of Kane's behavior issues .

Elliotte Freidman (to Chris Nichols) also said he felt the Kings were at the top of the list.

“A couple of things I can’t pin down about the Kings. No. 1, are they talking about him as a one-year rental, or are they looking at him to sign him to an extension. He’s eligible for an extension as of July 1. And secondly, I think Buffalo is willing to do a lot of things as long as a defenseman comes back. I just wonder – if they’re looking for a defenseman, is that what they’re talking about with the Kings. But I think they’re very interested.

I like some of the other options, esp Killorn and Palat. But as long as Luc and Blake are willing to bring in a fresh face on the top 6 and it's not too costly, that's a good thing.

How often is that the case? Usually, you have to give to get. Carter cost a precious 1st. Penner cost a precious 1st. Lucic cost a precious 1st. Gaborik didn't cost much, but at the time of the trade, he had played 22 games with 6 goals, and was a soon to be UFA. Richards cost 2 guys that had a combined 56 goals and 109 points this year.

If you want a top guy, pay the price, and worry later. Either go for it, or don't. Want a top 9 guy who might be able to sneak into top 6 production, who will be a bit cheaper? That's fine too. Want to hope you get the next Sam Gagner on a cheap free agent contract? That's fine too. If you're getting a sure fire top 6 guy though, it's going to be costly. Goals are at a premium.

Kings don't win the 2012 Cup without Richards or a comparable 2C, no way were we winning with Stoll or Schenn as 2C, just zero chance. Richards was still a very good player in 2012.

2014 different story, Kings could have had a Brad Richardson or Colin Fraser in MR's role and still won, in MLB terms he was a replacement level player by then.

Still make the trade all day, the only mistakes the Kings made in the Richards mess were not buying him out and not properly dealing with MR's addiction issues.

Any of those would be interesting, personally JVR (along with Kane) would be a distant 6th or 7th, don't want anyone on a 1 year deal, unless it's a bargain.

agree. But in the Kane case, he's got baggage so the price shouldn't be as high. But then the risk is on the Kings, whether to sign him or not. And I wouldn't trade for him, but maybe they feel he's grown past his issues. Palat, one of the contracts that Stevie Y has to get to, and he can't do all of them. Depends on if Drouin is really getting moved and what Johnson is asking.
Bolts have about 17M to spend on those 3 forwards and a backup goalie.

Speaking of Drouin, according to this, the Kings are one of the teams that are fishing for trade. And Muzzin is one of the pieces in the mix.
http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/tb170606.html

But that would require a bigger piece going back and/or a 1st rounder. Flyers have been trying to get him for 2 yrs. And he won't come cheap, he's gonna want $$ on his new deal.

You're correct on the definition of a top 6 forward or if the price remains too high for their taste, they opt for that young 3rd line winger that in a top 6 role with a skilled players would fit in. Gagner is an example of that ,Flyers never used him right and he was pretty vocal about it.

I'd love to see the Kings get Killorn, 6 more years at a little over 4M...put him in the top 6, I've seen enough of his game to think he'd fit in good.

I think he has a NTC, so he would have to waive it to facilitate a trade. I'm mixed on him. Wasn't enamored with his year in Tampa and he was sub par at the recent World Hockey Championships but his playoff pedigree speaks for itself.

I'm thinking he has a nice rebound season upcoming whether it be in Tampa or elsewhere.

It starts with the 17-18 season, so it may not kick in until July 1st, but i'm not sure.

One player doesn't win you the Cup, they can help, but one player doesn't equal one cup. It's a team effort. Richards' was good in 2012 and replaceable in 2014.

It was the Kings defense, goaltending, and they play of Kopitar, Brown, Carter, and Williams that helped clinch in 2012. If the Kings slotted Carter into the #2 center role and Simmonds was on the wing, who knows what would have happened.

Hey guys, for some reason your team comes up quite a bit in discussions on the Habs board with you guys missing Quick for a huge portion of your season.

I am pretty adamant that your season was difficult because your team had a hard time scoring and that it wasn't necessarily because of Quick being injured. Albeit not easy to have one goalie play almost 100% of your games.

If anyone feels like it, could you give me a memorial of the 2016-2017 of how you felt the season fell apart?

Thank you.

Rumors are Kings are in on Drouin.

I think more skill is better and if Kings can add a kid like this and get rid of Brown, this will be a great summer.

Drouin is a young dynamic forward that is a game changer. I would trade Muzzin+ in a heartbeat and pay him whatever he is demanding, even if in the $6 million+ range.

That's pretty hefty. #1 + Brown for ? Don't they have to give something? A bag of pucks? (new ones, not used practice ones)

Would possibly consider:

Brown + 11 overall for Vegas (rd 2) #34 overall.

This way the Kings rid the contract and still have picks 34 and 41.
Have enough cap to sign TT and move Muzz or Marty for a forward.
Doesn't Brown have a NMC contract?

Drouin probably costs something like Muzzin + Kempe

I recall at the 2013 draft, communicating with someone sitting in on Drouins
draft interview with a team.

Said he was a total total total a hole and wouldn't draft him at all.
Funny, 2 years later...all the attitude stuff comes out. I'd rather
target others, besides Kane and Drouin. The room has lost too much,
losing Williams, Stoll, (the 2012) Richards and for the most part, Greene. Having Drouin or
Kane may not work so well.

Nope, modified NTC.

I would have traded Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, and anybody else before 2012 to start the rebuild, because then that would bring us even closer to the start of the next rebuild after that! ;)

Certain key players in leadership roles were tuning out Sutter from the beginning and throughout the season. Add Quick's injury to that & you get a recipe for failure.
