It will be a very quiet off-season for the Kings. They don't have room. No one wants the bad contracts. Kings have never been particularly good at attracting FAs. They're going to hope last season was a fluke basically.

Not true. Once Lewis/McNabb gets picked from Vegas we'll have about 9M to spend which is plenty.

I hope they don't spend to the cap and tie their hands like Lombardi has done over the past few years. Overpaying UFAs is the dumbest route to take.

Exactly. No to the Oshies of the world.

Upgrade through trades and draft.
No more retirement, overbloated, longterm contracts.
I cringed on several of them, when they were done..
Greene getting 2 more years than he should have, etc.
Lombardi's loyalty / family thing backfired. I will
always respect and love the team he built and for the
2 Cups. forever. But I am impressd Blake got Pearson and TT
for about 1 mil each less than I expected. Impressive.

I think the Kings make a hockey trade when all is said and done. I just see Blake making at least a semi-significant move to put his mark on the roster and not run the same team out there

If you're serious about looking to keep Doughty, you can't get tied up with another big name. Sure you can use some of that 9mil to try to get someone on a short contract, but good luck. FAs want term and they want money.

They have flexibility but they need to shed some bad contracts. Brown and Gaborik need to go. They have about 9 bottom six forwards in Shore, Dowd, Lewis, Nolan, Clifford, Andreoff, Kempe, Brodzinski, and Mersch.

Gaborik will start the year hurt but basically Kings starts AGAIN with
Gaborik or fill in until he is healthy-Kopitar-Brown
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli

Carter is more likely to be traded than Gaborik or Brown.

It would be great to get Brown or Gaborik off the books, but there doesn't seem to be a need to do so anymore. We appear to be good with cap space, and have enough to fit a top 6 forward (if Blake can make a trade or sign a UFA). Getting rid of Brown or Gaborik as cap dumps doesn't really improve our team.

We might as well ride out their contracts until there is one or two years left, and see if a deal is available then.

Potential Free Agent Targets:

Radim Vrbata
Alexander Radulov
Patrick Marleau
Nick Bonino
Patrick Sharp
Ales Hemsky

Whole lot of blah. If we want some legit help up front it'll come from a trade.

There was always going to be enough space in the short term to do something if they chose to. Getting rid of B/G would be about the years on the contract.

Other than an expensive buyout, there's not a choice. They're going to ride out those contracts. Then when there's a year left, it's still going to cost a 1st or a prospect to get another team to take the cap hit. To get rid of them today would probably cost three 1st's, or a couple 1st's and a prospect, or something like that. Nobody needs their contracts to reach the floor. Vegas, or any team, could sign Viktor Stalberg to a 1 year, $6m deal and be cap compliant for next year.

If the kings aren't going to use that cap space on a good UFA, then we might as well keep Brown and Gaborik. See if they can bounce back under a new system. In Gaborik's case, get healthy. Also burns a year off their contracts to lower a future dump cost.

I am against buying out Greene unless we absolutely need that extra $641,667 in cap space (vs burying for $1,025,000) which will cost $833,333 in 2018-2019. Hopefully it's not a done deal and the team waits until closer to June 30.

responding to a tweet asking if Voynov's immigration issues are being worked on.

Time since Voynov left is a factor in his return. It's not even 2 years - only one if he would be trying for a July return. 18 months if he was trying for making training camp at the last moment. And there's still his SKA contract.

Not blah per se. I would like like to sign Radulov to a 3-4 year contract, and I think we can fit him in our cap space. He will likely command between $4-5 million. Short term that cap hit is not bad. Bonino is also a very good option to secure our 3C spot. If Radulov doesn't work, I think Blake can sign both Bonino and Vrbata.

Not true. Once Lewis/McNabb gets picked from Vegas we'll have about 9M to spend which is plenty.

Considering that if McNabb or Lewis is taken, the Kings will have roughly $9 million to spend with only 16 players signed. That's $9 million for 7 roster spots, including multiple unsigned RFAs.

It's nowhere near as much as it looks.

The cap could go up by another $2M or so as well.

A lot of the guys the Kings need to re-sign are just going to get minimum qualify offers. Ladue, Gravel, Brodzinski. Shore might get 1M.

If Vegas takes Lewis, then the Kings will have about ~6.5M free with a 21 man roster if the cap is 75M.

So they have some flexibility.
