I know it's good, but he compared it to Brett Hull and Mike Bossy who are two of the best goal scorers of all time

I like Yamamtoto more than Middlestat.

I don't see a pro level maturity with Casey, nor a kif that dominated junior A level competition.

He's a skilled guy that will reap points on the PP... Just don't see that translating as a top 6 forward.

Valiardi imo is up there as a top tier forward.

Laine and Tolvanen have similar shots, hand-eye coordination to hammer any pass good or bad. The thing is, Tolvanen is more net accurate than corner accurate. Bossy and Hull would snipe the smallest of spaces and make goalies work for their saves.

Full mock by THW. Here were the Ranger picks....

1 (21) C: Josh Norris (USA) (6'1"/192lbs., Shot: Left, USNTDP/USHL) * U. of Michigan 18/19 commit *
4 (102) D: Tyler Inamoto (USA) (6'2"/196lbs., Shot: Left, USNTDP/USHL) * U. of Wisconsin 17/18 commit *
5 (145) LW: Alexander Volkov (RUS) (6'1"/192lbs., Shot: Left, SKA-1946/MHL) * Overage +2 *
6 (157) G: Kirill Ustimenko (RUS) (6'3"/179lbs., Catches: Left, MHK Dynamo/MHL)
7 (207) C: Colt Conrad (CAN) (5'10"/187lbs., Shot: Right, Western Michigan/NCAA) * Overage +2 *

I would be okay with this group of players. Norris is pretty good and carries a huge and accurate shot. Wouldn't mind the reach for him at No. 21. Was unaware that he isn't committed to school right after this season, though, so he'll be playing another year of USHL/BCHL hockey. Inamoto is a good pick in the 4th round and is a powerful defender. Takes way too many penalty minutes, though. Think I would've chose a different Euro than Volkov, who is still in the MHL as an overage +2. Ustimenko is an absolute steal in the 6th round and just would add to an already stellar keeper pool. I've always liked Conrad, even in his high school days. Very sound positionally and can read plays quickly and turn it the other way for a scoring opportunity. He has increased his point production every year even though he projects as a defensive center in pros. Look for him to have an increased role next year with the Broncos.

Thoughts?

Hate Norris at #21, imo not the kind of player we should go after and in general too soon to grab him too.

Don't like Inamoto either, was terrible at the Five Nations in February.

Rest i just don't know.

I don't like Norris with the #21 pick on the board with Brannstrom, Yamamoto or Andersson. I don't know enough about the other players that were picked so I won't commit on them.

thats an awful group. i know the first 2 only.

better players avail at 21 than norris although he is a prototypical nyr draft kid. i prefer we go higher upside skill. he's safe and thats what bothers me.

inamoto doesnt impress. plays undisciplined and when I've seen him, looks average.

I saw this yesterday and didn't post it, that's my thoughts ;)

No really, at every pick there were players that are rated much higher. I like Norris but not with some others on the board. Inamoto is a bit undisciplined and immature, but he's going to Wisconsin which is a school that could straighten him out. Don't see much upside to his game compared to others who are on the board there. I don't hate the Volkov pick, he's already a pro size winger who has skill, but he is not consistent and could be Russia's version of Brandon Pirri, one trick pony, with Solow(Ushl leading scorer) going right after him, I'd rather take the gamble on Solow and his choppy skating. Hate the Ustimenko pick, again not cause of player, he's ok, but with so few picks(unless we acquire more through trade) I don't want to see a goalie selected, and besides Ahman a few picks later would be a better choice, one of the youngest in the draft, lots of filling out to do. Then I saw Westerlund and Altybarmakyan were also on the board. Colt Conrad is ok for a 7th.

Won't lie, the bolded is contradicting seeing you've only seen the first two prospects. Saying it's an awful group, while not being educated on the others makes zero sense. Don't mean to be that guy, but think before posting, man! :help:

Agree with you on Norris and Inamoto, however.

I wouldn't mind Norris if we moved down past 25 in the first and picked up a 2nd. Otherwise he's too early.

Agreed with most of the comments.

I agree that Yamamoto, Andersson and Brannstrom are better options there compared to Norris. I would hope for one of those three over Norris, but that doesn't mean Norris doesn't have the talent to be picked early. Like ODCB mentioned above, he's a safe player. But I kind of question how safe he really is, especially since he is not directly going college. More of a semi-safe, project pick in terms of how long an organization will hold his rights without an ELC.

Inamoto in the 4th round makes a lot of sense. Very undisciplined, but he has a mobile stride for a defender and has the strength to ward off incoming offensive pushes from a power forward or one-on-ones. Think the NCAA will help him, however, Wisconsin has fallen a bit in the power rankings recently. Think that is a reasonable spot for him in the 4th, though.

Not sold on Volkov, think he goes undrafted again. Agreed with Solow!!

I get where BN is coming from in Ustimenko's case, but he is a phenomenal talent. Has the ability to steal games and is under-the-radar compared to other keepers that'll probably go early (ie. DiPietro, Oettinger, Luukkonen). I know a lot of NYR fans don't want to see another keeper selected, especially with how little picks they have, but this is indeed the draft class to take a goalie from. Not often do most see a class that has a plethora of goaltenders that have game breaking abilities. Easily the highlighted position in this class.

A 7th round pick is a 7th round pick. Others can be taken in place of Conrad, but he is worthy of a late round pick. I feel that Conrad will go undrafted again and will be able to be brought in for development camp, but nonetheless he's solid there.

Joey, anyone in the 7th but Raaymakers :D

Thoughts on Yamamoto? Little guy succeeding in the WHL who has got speed and scoring ability. Wouldn't be upset if we took him, especially if we get another first some how and then take him.

Shout out to Oscar Lindberg for the notice, but this cool little link is starting to get some hype here on HF. It's a very intricately built draft simulator created by a poster on these boards. If anyone is interested in trying it out, here's the link below....

I tried this little gadget out, it was pretty cool. I only did a first round mock and Tolvanen fell into my lap at 21 and i chose him over Lias Andersson. I can only wish that that is our dilemma on draft night lol

no worries. i was hasty with my comment.

should have said thats an awful top 2. the others i dont know.

too early on norris and definitely not a fan of inamoto.

I like his game a lot. If Brannstrom is off the board by #21, Yamamoto would be my next choice.

I don't follow prospects and the draft much but I always figure go for the BPA lol

The issue is figuring out who the BPA is, extra tough in a draft class as even as this one.

The Rangers last 4 1st rounders were Kreider, Mcilrath, JT Miller, Skjei - they strayed a bit from the rankings on most of these, guessing who'll they'll pick is not easy.

We're a week away from round 1, lets try and pick the player you think the Rangers will pick, not necessarily the guy you'd want, here's my take:

Conor Timmins - He's a RHD that checks off so many boxes, but his skating is ugly.

Ryan Poehling - C/W who could be a good fit for the current young forwards on the team. Versatile, size, could be a David Backes type player in the Pro game.

Nic Hague - Big defender that projects to be more defensive despite some decent offensive numbers and a bomb from the point.

Isaac Ratcliffe - Huge winger that models his game after 'Rick Nash'.

Shane Bowers - Two way Center, headed to BU, future Captain material.

Sleeper - Joni Ikonen - Finnish right handed Centerman that plays for Hanks old club Frolunda of the Swedish league.

Super Sleeper - Adam Ruzicka - 6'4 210 Center that played well for Sarnia(ohl) in his first year in NA.

Right, but the idea was try to pick the player the Rangers will take, not necessarily who you like.

Timmins makes alot of sense, except his skating. If he were a great skater he would maybe sniff the top ten in this draft. He gets to where he's going just fine, but its not pretty.
