In the end if it came down to both these guys, still not a bad position to be in, we should get a good player at #21. People have bad mouthed this draft so much its starting to become an underrated draft ;)

Same thing with 2012. We got Brady Skjei. Picks are picks and young talent is young talent. You take your chance and see where it goes from there. It's not like we're in a position of strength in the prospect department.

As someone that has seen Foote and Yamamoto live a few times, I go Foote. His skating is much better than what I read. He plays both ends of the ice with ease, his positioning at both ends is really good. I think he does both so well that it is harder to notice him. Very smart but he has the wheels for the new NHL and I can see him expanding his O very easily. Foote will probably be about the same size as Brady when/if he makes the NHL. Moves very smoothly, so I think that makes him look a bit slow

KY is very flashy in his play, he has talent but I am not sure he has enough to make up for his size. His moves are kinda choppy and it makes him look even faster than he is. If he was a EU/RU player or NCAA I like him more but CHL and small players do not work out as often.

I would go EU/RU at the spot we have in the draft.

If both Callan Foote and Kailer Yamamoto are left at #21 and guys like Brannstrom are taken, who do you choose?

Assuming no Brannstrom, Liljegren, Kostin, or Vesalainen? I would pick Yamamoto here, but my gut is telling me we would take Foote...

I've said it before. If we end up with Timmy Lils, I'll do cartwheels and spend a few weeks in hospital because I can't do ****ing cartwheels but it'll be worth it

I agree, he's an absolute pipe dream at 21...If he's still there after 15 or so and Toronto passes on him, we might have a chance.

But it also means guys like Brannstrom, Hague, Valimaki, and Foote are already off the board, so someone before us may take a swing at him if they wanted a defenseman and couldn't land one of those guys.

I take Yamamoto over Kostin and Vesalainen.

Maybe Vesalainen, but I really like Kostin. I've heard comparisons to Tarasenko and Nichushkin, and we have a good track record with Russians. But I wouldn't be upset if we chose Yamamoto over either guy too.

All it would take is a club to reach a bit and one of them will likely be there.

Timmons, Ratcliffe, Thomas, Poehling, Norris, Bowers, Boqvist, Comtois....All players that a team with an earlier pick could reach for.

I think there's a very real possibility that San Jose reaches for a goalie--either Oettinger, Luukonen or DiPietro. The Sharks organizational depth at goalie is pretty much 0 and if they don't take a goalie with their first pick their next pick is at #81.

Someone on the Hockey Future's Prospects page is tracking most of the major draft rankings: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yxwEPYJ7lG6oxKsKnX62e-u8P9saQnUAXrtWVFhCFzg/edit#gid=0

Here's the current average rankings of the drafts within 3 picks of 21.

18. Kostin
19. Foote
20. Poeling
21. Yamamoto
22. Brannstrom
23. Hague
24. Thomas

The Rangers should have a choice of a few good players if they keep the pick at 21.

The Sharks have never taken a goalie in the first round so it would be historical ! ;)

Maybe they're due, they only have a few goalie prospects and the best looking one is a 20 yr old freshman going to U of New Hampshire.

I can see SJ taking a falling Euro player, Necas maybe, or could be Tolvanen, Kostin, Vesalainen.

Yeah I mean outside of the top 8 or so picks, I think the rest of the first round is a complete toss-up. I've seen Liljegren as high as 9 and as low as 29, same with Brannstrom. Poehling has gone as early as 15 in some mocks, and as late as 30. I saw one mock where the Pens landed Kostin at 31...plus I have to think at least one or two teams will reach for a goalie, even if it's a team that picks after us. It's really going to be an interesting day.

My hope is that a couple of GM's have a preconceived idea of who they're going to pick, and won't deviate from it regardless of who falls into their range. And I'm hoping that we're ready for that and will benefit from it.

I take Yamamoto over Kostin and Vesalainen.

yeesh

dont agree.

i maybe like both those guys over yamamoto to be honest. they are all pretty close though. toss up. all 3 have upside but are not without holes.

i really like valimaki. he's gonna be a stud and will play in the bigs pretty quickly due to his developed 2 way game and his smarts.

if that guy falls even a little bit closer to us, i make a strong move to grab him.
