I would expect Dumo to be around $3.25-$3.5m. Schultz will get around $4.25m-$4.75m in my books.

For me;

Guentzel-Crosby-Sheary
Rust-Malkin-Kessel
Hagelin-XXX-Hornqvist
Wilson-XXX-Reaves
Kuhnhackl/Rowney

I would make the 3C Jordan Weal and the 4th C either Rowney or, if possible, Boyle. Probably looking at $750k or so for Weal and $2m for Boyle. Would extend Sheary, Dumo and Schultz. We'd look like below;

FORWARDS (14)
Right wing: C. Sheary ($2,750,000) - P. Kessel ($6,800,000) - P. Hornqvist ($4,250,000) - R. Reaves ($1,125,000) - T. Kuhnhackl ($625,000)
Centre: S. Crosby ($8,700,000) - E. Malkin ($9,500,000) - J. Weal ($750,000) - B. Boyle ($2,000,000) - C. Rowney ($612,500)
Left wing: J. Guentzel ($734,167) - B. Rust ($640,000) - C. Hagelin ($4,000,000) - S. Wilson ($625,000)

DEFENSE (6)
Right: K. Letang ($7,250,000) - J. Schultz ($4,500,000) - C. Ruhwedel ($650,000)
Left: B. Dumoulin ($3,500,000) - O. Määttä ($4,083,333) - I. Cole ($2,100,000)

GOALTENDER (2)
M. Murray ($3,750,000) - T. Jarry ($630,833)

DETAILS
Roster Size: 22
NHL Salary Cap: $75,000,000
Cap Hit: $69,575,833
Cap Space: $5,424,167

Not opposed to signing Weal but if you're signing Boyle too then just let him play 3C.
And Weal or Rowney can play 4C.

For me, Boyle is more of a 4C on a Cup contender so prefer Bones/Hanzal or even 41 yr old Cullen as 3C. Thats in UFA's.
Certainly some 3C options via trade but dunno who's available outside of Duchene.

Quick question, when should we expect our RFA's Sheary, Dumo and Schultz to get signed? With Saturday being first say of free agency i figured atleast Schultz or Dumo would be signed by now.

I say go big or go home for Duchene. Maatta, Sheary, 1st in 2018 for Duchene at 3M per for the last 2 years. Sure, it's an overpayment but we get him at 3M instead of 6M and can still go hard after a UFA Dman or 2. If that does not get him then i guess the only way to get him is trading Jake, Sheary, Sprong, Maatta, Dumo for Duchene and a 3rd by how Sakic opperates and would still hesitate to pull that off. Go for that 3peat JR, maybe we can somehow get Duchene at 3M and Radulov at 5M for 2 years each. Hagelin-Duchene-Kessel, Rust-Malkin-Radulov, G-Crosby-Hornqvist.

Idk I'd pump the brakes on any center role for weal. He took 28 faceoffs in 23 games last year. Faceoffs I think can be overblown when talking about some teams. Not the pens. 3c n 4c roles are absolutely vital to our team, because the last thing we want to do is bury sid in Def zone draws. We already know malkin gets limited exposure to those. So if we sign a guy that's sketchy on the dots or 2. Most that burden is gonna fall on sid. And I'm pretty sure they aren't gonna handcuff sid like that.

I would trade Sprong for the right 3C. Even though I think Sprong will score, a lot, I'm not convinced he will play a responsible 2 way game and we are loaded at W. I would also trade Maatta, even though I think his best hockey is ahead of him and he's doing just fine for a 23 year old, because his speed will always be an issue. What I won't do is trade both, plus a 1st, to fill a hole at 3C. Too much. Plus it means we need 2 D men for next season, not one, and it would push Sid/Geno to kill more penalties.

That's how you get Erat for FF trades.

RFAs only have to be qualified before July 1, which they have been. We don't have to sign anyone until just before the season starts. I would assume they get signed reasonably quickly, but there wouldn't be any issue with it taking several weeks after July 1.

Bones/Hanzal and Boyle/Cullen would be a great 3C/4C combo, no matter which of the 2 of the 4 you sign IMO.

Bones is just a proven playoff performer, that's my only concern about losing him.

Sheary's the guy to move to address our needs. Picks/lesser prospects ideally.

Yeah, unless that 3C is a young guy with the upside to be a hell of a lot more than a 3C, that trade has disaster written all over it.

I would just love to keep Sprong. I think the kid is going to be a frickin' stud. I see so much potential and he's dominating where he should be dominating. I just want to see him on a Sully driven team. And he will keep the cost low for when we lose one of Sheary/Rust/Jake (Please no Jake/Rust) down the road.

What?! Nobody needs to move to address our needs at this point in time. Nobody. We have enough to get a 3C, a goalie, and a dman. We don't need to move anyone. We have enough. We just need the right guys and they aren't available at UFA.

We don't need Oshies/Radulovs/etc. We don't. We don't need a 6m 3C like Staal/Duchene. We need the right guys and JR has done a great job of making hockey trades for them. A couple guys are out there, if at the right price (Hanzal/Bones for 3C, Moore for 4C).

Yea, i agree. Weal's more of a winger than a C if he signed here, no doubt.

Agree completely with this. But no one will want him unless we can sign him to a 2-3 year contract at the rate he'll give us. His value is now. Sign and trade. He's really only good with Sid and we can put Jake there. LV needs forwards and might deal a D man. Nashville has defensive centers and. Needs scoring wings.
I would also be on board with trading him for Sissons for a 3C, who I think has shown promise to be an upgrade on Bonino and is young

And if we strike out in free agency?

Let's get to that point first. If the back-to-back Stanley Cup champs don't have anyone who wants to play for them while their team is loaded and looks ready for a 3-peat, so be it. We can go different routes. See if we can bum some players from Vegas for a couple picks. See if we can reach out for hockey trades. Hags would be my #1 and I don't want to lose him, but if a hockey trade is there - that's who I move, not Sheary.

Let's get to that point first. If FAs don't want a chance at this team, then I'll have fun rolling the ******* over on our way to #6. :yo:

Madden mentioned Dominic Moore as a potential 4C. I know it's Madden but I still wouldn't hate the idea. He played well for Boston

I'm not openly shopping Sheary for the heck of it. But if there's an upgrade to be made on d,or for a solid 3c, I'd definitely explore it. He's the most replaceable imo and you'd have to imagine we'd be dealing from that position of strength.

**** Mark Madden. We've been talking about Moore for months here. And Madden mentioned him as a 3C. I heard it on the way home from work while Sirius NHL Network was on commercial.

I literally said out loud "The guy gets his info from HF. I know it."

Maybe McPhee will accept a 6th round pick in 2021 for James Neal?

I'm kidding...sort of

And if we strike out in free agency?

Thats when things get interesting either via trade or beefing up other areas so that you can perform trades in season to address your needs.

One things for sure. JR's spending to or at 75M.
