Kevin Weekes is so superior to Barry Melrose

Melrose asked during an exhibition game if Blake Wheeler played for the Bruins

About the only ESPN commentator who doesn't make my ears bleed is Steve Levy.

But I still love the theme music.

At this point I will be disappointed if Canada and Team North America don't play against each other.

Kind of glad Tuukka isn't playing tonight, but then again it probably wouldn't feel any different than playing behind the Bruins d.

Sweden - Canada final would be far too mainstream. Officially on the Team NA and Team Europe bandwagon.

Levy lived here and may still - my favorite ESPN guy all time

Weekes though is a Bruins guy but even if not he's articulate and insightful and loves the game.

I agree watching those top lines face off would be awesome.

I wonder what a Marchand -- Spooner -- Bergeron line would look like after seeing the success of Marchand-- Crosby-- Bergeron in the WCH and watching Bergeron playing a hybrid center/right wing on his shifts with Crosby.

Not if Bergeron takes the faceoffs.

Then I guess he's the center and not a wing.

In my view, this type of on-the-fly position changing, or mixed-mode positional play doesn't make much sense. I doubt it gets much consideration if any by the coaching staff as well. I can't even see Spooner playing much on that line's wing. At this point it appears he's suited for a role on the third line, whether as a center or as a wing.

I understand what you're saying. For me, I'm just thinking outloud, with some of the bullet points being

- Watching Marchand/Bergeron play with an offensive center

- Bergeron still plays with center tendencies positionally even though he's on the wing in the WCH

- Sheltering our worst defensive center and accenting his strengths without having to move him out of position or trading him because of fit and/or needs elsewhere.

- Switching out on faceoffs isn't as big of a deal seeing as it happens all the time. Players gravitate back to their original assignments once the faceoffs are done.

Probably nothing like we're seeing at the WCH, since Spooner isn't even on the same planet as Crosby in terms of anything.

Obviously not. What I'm suggesting here is putting Marchand/Bergeron on both sides of another offensive center. The Bruins would be unleashing his skills playing with other high end offensive players and sheltering him at the same time since the defensive work of the Marchand/Bergeron tandem is the best in the league.

If Spooner isn't moved for help on the blueline, the big question heading into camp is where to put him. IMO, I think the best place for Spooner is on the 1st line.

Offensively I think it would be very good. Better than asking Spooner to move to his off-wing.

But at the same time, once their in the offensive zone, their is so much movement/rotation going on I don't think it matters much.

Defensively in Claude's system I don't want Spooner having the centerman's responsibility in his own zone in any way, shape or form.

Good thing neither does Claude.

Yeah Spooner is starting to feel like a round peg for the square hole here. With Backes on board, I assumed Spooner was gone. And now with all of this buzz for Heinen maybe taking a spot, now I really don't see where they slot Spooner.

I tell you what...this organization has truly excelled at eroding Spooner's market value. I feel like they've almost tried to screw this up.

Not a good attempt by Kopitar. Would've thought they had some players more specialised in that art. Frans Nielsen?

Zuccarello was my other thought.

Looked it up... the last three seasons, Nielsen is 17/37 for 46%, Zuccarello 9/19 for 47% (much smaller sample) and Kopitar 10/27 for 37% in the shootout. But that includes 28.5% the past two seasons for Kopitar where the others are 41% and 50%. CBA to look up in-game penalty shots, though.

Hindsight, I guess.

Somewhere Don Sweeney is asking if he gets taksie backsies on buyouts

On the bright side, seeing the Czech team constantly hemmed in their own zone but only giving up one goal probably makes the management and coaching think Pasta is improving on D
