Matthews is on the team because he's a good player. It's basic and simple. The staff isn't going to play him or have him on the roster unless they think he gives them a better chance to win.

anyone thinking he's there because of Toronto is out of their mind and simply doesn't know what a player he actually is. He's going to step up into the league and be a #1 center of the Leafs right away. He's absolutely deserving his spot on the roster. And yes. It's a conspiracy theory. People always want to see something more behind than there is actually. And of course, in situations like this, it's easy to do that.

If Matthews wasn't drafted by Toronto or the World Cup wasn't in Toronto I would say at the very least it's less likely Matthews is on the team.

Matthews would be on the team regardless of who drafted him or where the tournament is held. Kid is special.

He's as special as Hall, RNH, Yakupov, McKinnon. He isn't an elite 1st overall pick.

I don't get the hand-wringing over Matthews' inclusion. If this tourney was held a year ago would people have gotten bent out of shape over McDavid or Eichel making the team? It's the same deal. I think Matthews has demonstrated with his play in the NLA and WC that he he belongs.

They should try a Larkin-McDavid-MacKinnon line.

It's hard to not score if you 3 on 0 all the time.
 
I'm actually looking forward to this team more than team canada, with team canada I know they will dominate but I want to watch these young stars kill it. This could be some amazing hockey

Only reason he gets hate now is because he's a leaf. He's proved it over and over again he belongs there.

Matthews is probably about a Mackinnon level at draft.

He's not as good as Eichel was at the same age, but also not too far off.

So, the argument then comes, first 10 games of the season last year, who would you rather have? Galy or Eichel.

I actually believe the choice was ice-time related. With 12 minutes of ice time per game in sheltered minutes who would be more impactful?

Also it likely more came down to RNH vs Galchenyuk than Matthews vs Galchenyuk.

What are you basing the Eichel/Matthews comparison on? I'd like to know since Matthews has out-performed Eichel every stage and comes from a very different draft year background.
 
Still no word on D pairings for today? Post the forward lines and no D... Scheif's working the point on first pp I heard on peg radio earlier
 
I just want to see the most hyped collection of talent. Matthews is part of that. I guess I would have preferred to see Reinhart/Domi over Trocheck, but whatever. This team is supposed to be about fun. Who honestly would want to watch it for them construction purposes? Just seems like people are upset that their teams young player isn't included, nothing more, nothing less.

McDavid gets the C, Eichel and Ekblad get the A's. This team is a mini dream team, let's not overthink it here.

I have a feeling the three letters will be Saad, Ekblad, and McDavid.

Your most experiences, two time cup winning player, your best defenceman, and your best player.
