He's on the team because..

1) He's really really good.

2) Because I'm sure USA Hockey insisted on it considering he along with Eichel are going to be the face of USA Hockey for a long long time and they want Matthews getting as much international experience as possible.

Let's see I guess. I would assume it was more of a Toronto influence than a team usa influence to include him tbh. Maybe he is that good but I would assume the Toronto market is pretty valuable to the nhl to have him in the games.

Like go to any Toronto away game in the nhl except for maybe montreal and the stadium will be mostly blue and white.

Idk why so many people like them but having Torontos mcdavid on the team will fill seats for all the north America games.

What are you talking about, Matthews was not selected in the original squad. He was selected in the last 4 forwards taken. The only injury was Monahan, what are those many chances that Galchenyuk had to be selected after? If you look at what most hockey knowledgable person say, they pretty much all say the Matthews was taken for marketing, and that Galchenyuk got snubbed.

It's held in Toronto Canada, the games are being sold out regardless. Matthews will make barely any difference once you cut the profit into their cuts. He was put on the team because he's good, any other speculation is purely tin foil hat talk.

If every game ends up being sold out maybe I will believe this but are they on pace for selling out the games between the weaker teams? . But it's not just for selling out tickets they want it to be watched by the most people possible.

And idk why but leaf fans are everywhere so having him on team north America will make all of them tune in for the games when they wouldn't normally.
