Mathews is on the team because this is an NHL exhibition tournament. Purely PR. I don't know how anyone can argue he's a better fit than Galchenyuk or Jenner.

I'd love to hear your insight on why J.T Miller is on the team over Galchenyuk or Jenner.

imagine if Matthews gets injured and doesn't even get to start the season with Toronto? The possibilities this whole situation creates are ridiculous.

Jones should play with Murray, given that they are a pairing together in the NHL, and use each other well. Then Ghost-Ekblad, Rielly-Parayko, Trouba.

I think Gaudreau and McDavid should be together. They'll be targets, no doubt, but I think with their processing speed they'll make magic happen no matter what gets thrown against them. I think for a third you want someone with processing speed too (like Drouin), but then again there is only so much puck to go around and someone like Saad can work as a sniper without carrying the puck. Scheifele has maybe the best shot - can he work without carrying the puck?

It's maybe not as bad as the slow team canada snubbing Hall, but the physical weak Young Guns left Boone Jenner off the team and look like they could be pushovers. Some 30 goal sandpaper would have made more sense, no? Galchenyuk is not as tough but he's also a better fit than RNH, Matthews, and Miller.

Gaudreau-McDavid-Scheifele
Drouin-Mackinnon-Saad
Matthews-RNH-Eichel
Larkin-Couturier-Trocheck
Miller

Murray-Jones
Ghost-Ekblad
Rielly-Parayko
Trouba

I guess that's why the coaching staff is rolling him out on PP#1. More PR.

NA team will be a hit, so it will come back in 2020!!! HAAAHA

Here's my 2020 team:

McDavid-Matthews-Patrick
Yamamoto-Barzal-Tkachuk

Hanifin-Chychrun
Fabbro-McAvoy

C. Hart

Weird to see no McDavid on the PP?

If the first PP is Matthews-Drouin/MacK-Eichel-Gostisbehere-Gaudreau, than the second will be something like McDavid-Saad-Rielly-Ekblad-Scheifele. I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be #1 or #2 PP line, each would have the same ice time

Mark Scheifele, who trains with Connor McDavid in the summer, said McDavid is an even faster skater this season.

:popcorn::popcorn: I wonder what he's capable of on the ice if this is true..

Matthews - McDavid - MacKinnon
Gaudreau - Scheifele - Eichel
Drouin - RNH - Miller
Larkin - Couturier - Saad
Trochek

Rielly - Ekblad
Gostisbehere - Parayko
Murray - Trouba
Jones

Murray
Gibson
Hellebuyck

JT Miller is criminally underrated. He is a middle of the pack forward on this roster and has the potential to be the Rangers best offensive player this year.

He fits the role in bottom 6 for this team, I really like him on the line with Couturier, and he's also very underrated player.

It is not rocket science that Matthews is there especially because of money and storylines. But I am fine with him being there since he's already spectacular player and I am looking forward to see him play, and Team NA in general.

Offense shouldn't be a problem for this team. As usual with youth, I imagine being able to keep with the system for 60 minutes in tight games, run an effective PK, and faceoffs will be their weaknesses. Nonetheless, the team has the offensive firepower and speed to give opponents fits. In particular, I expect the Russian defensemen to have the most trouble handling Team NA's speed off the rush.

You are right, that has nothing to do with rocket science. It's a conspiracy theory. Very different thing.

Matthews is on the team because he's a good player. It's basic and simple. The staff isn't going to play him or have him on the roster unless they think he gives them a better chance to win.
