Are there really so many injuries, or am I only taking more notice this year because there's the World Cup?

It feels like some players just rather don't wanna go (not talking about Monahan in specific)... But as I said, maybe I'm only noticing it this year.

Every Olympics has its fair share of injuries as well but since it's in the middle of the season and not at the end of the offseason the people that aren't playing would already be off their prospective clubs.

With how this is set up you have all the guys rehabbing from offseason surgeries/ injuries that thought they would be good in time having to pull out so it would look worse that way.

With the 3 month break it's not hard to imagine players thinking they will be back to 100 percent by the end of the break and then realizing they aren't ready for it yet as the tournament edges closer.

Matthews-Eichel-Trochek
Larkin-Couterier-Miller
RNH

Murray-Ekblad
Ghost-Jones
Rielly-Parayko
Trouba

-Wanted Jones, Ekblad and Rielly to each anchor a pairing.
-Give McD a PWF in Saad and a skill guy in Drouin. Gaudreau/Drouin could switch
-RNH does nothing for me on this team. Too many good Cs. Would prefer a big body or guy like Domi who brings raw speed.
-4th line is shutdown unit.
-Feel strongly these are 4 guys who should play C. None seem suited to play W, except Scheifele but they need his size down the middle.

Lame how all these hockey players are wussing out of the tournament. Back strain? It's have to be broken for me to skip the tourney.

If im paying a guy millions to playfor my team and hes injured a bit, i rather he not play for someone else and reinjure himself so i dont pay him to be injured

Crazy chucky isnt on this team still. Even bowman said he should be on

Good tourney to miss and not risk upsetting your nation's fanbase. I'm still hearing close to no buzz about this... not at all like on an Olympic year. If I was an NHL player feeling sore, I'd skip this one too. It's a long season ahead, I wouldn't want to go down to injury playing against Team North America.

Either would have been better than Trocheck

This tournament is becoming such a joke. Galchenyuk played on the world championship roster for team usa and single handedly stole the silver medal in the shootout, had a 30 goal breakout season, scored more goals than any player in the nhl after the all star game whos name is not ovechkin, yet he cant crack this roster? Not saying that trocheck isnt good but cmon. I wouldve taken even jenner or huberdeau. Galchenyuk should have been on the roster to begin with

Yeah. Jenner, Huberdeau, or Galchenyuk are guys I would take ahead of Trocheck. Trocheck is a righty and the others are lefties? :dunno:

His biggest strength here is his experience. 5 years in the NHL now as a top line C. He will literally be a vet for this team and will be relied on for his PK abilities. The only forward on the team better defensively than RNH is Couts. Let Eichel and McDavid handle the easier minutes and starts and get Couts and RNH to face the tougher comp like Crosby.

Well perhaps now us Montreal fans have to deal with another "he shoots a different way so he's on the team!" (Cough Subban cough)

is it just me or does it really seem quite intense? Between September 5 and September 14, that's 10 days, they have only one day free of anything. In nine of those days there will be a practise or a game.

This would be my lineup heading into the pretournament:

Saad-McDavid-MacKinnon
Gaudreau-Eichel-Scheifele
Larkin-RNH-Drouin
Matthews-Couturier-Trochek
Miller

Rielly-Ekblad
Murray-Jones
Ghostisbehere-Parayko

Opposing teams are going to be putting their shutdown defencemen against the McDavid line regardless. Saad and MacKinnon are ideal wingers for McDavid. Saad is a battler and MacKinnon has an incredible shot and speed. I prefer these guys here, that way you have an easier time getting Gaudreau, Eichel, and Scheifele easier minutes where they can light up the opposition. I also considered rolling a power line of Gaudreau-McDavid-Scheifele but decided to spread the wealth.

The second line like I said should be able to find success regardless of who matches up against them, but I'd like to be able to shelter them while McDavid's line takes the Doughty's and Toews' and Bergeron's of the world.

Larkin-RNH-Drouin seems like a great line to me. Larkin is an incredible goal scorer and you're putting two playmakers with him. RNH is going to have to do some heavy lifting on this line to make sure they aren't bleeding goals against vs the top teams, but he has shown he is a very successful centre given his role in the NHL playing vs top competition in the west since the age of 18.

Matthews to me is an unknown quantity and he could very well end the tournament on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or extra forward lines. I have him here because he's obviously a better player than Miller and Trochek, and likely even better than most of the bottom 6 fielded here. We will have to see though.

As for the D pairs I tried to put an offensive defenceman with a more defensively capable guy. Rielly-Ekblad will be playing all the hard matchups and I would expect those two to be logging 26-28 minutes a night.

Trochek is just as deserving as Galchenyuk, perhaps even more. Adding the need for a bottom 6 center should make it pretty straight forward as to why they went with Trochek.

Galchenyuk??

Yes I am a habs fan with homerism im sure, but how could Chucky be left off this roster?

How many 30 goal NHL scorers are on the team? That can play wing and center?

Not to mention he was one of the hottest players in the league at the end of last season.

Any insight from people in the know?

Just a guess, but I suspect they wanted a more versatile player would play anywhere in the F lineup. Trochek can fill more roles than Chucky and has a better track record of being a defensively minded 200" player than Chucky, who while a sniper, does not a have a defensive oriented pedigree. You really don't give up much offense by taking Trochek over Chucky and you get more versatility. My 2 cents.

This team will be fun to watch and could be a threat to win it in a short tournament.

Galchenyuk is a center too
He's also better than Trochek

How is Trochek deserving more?
Galchenyuk is top 5 among forwards that already in the team

Jenner is a 30 Goal Scorer who plays a great two way game and can also play on the wing, but yeah Gally or Jenner easily over Trochek. I would have went Jenner though Bc he fits a bottom 6 role better IMHo

@BNHarrington -
Initial line rushes have Eichel at RW with Gaudreau and Saad. McDavid with Drouin and Schiefele.
Matthews shuffling in Team NA 4th line with Miller, Couturier and Trocheck.

@Michael_Traikos -
North America Lines - (may be wrong) - Drouin-McDavid-Scheifele - Gaudreau-Eichel-Saad - MacKinnon-Nugent-Larkin - Miller-Couturier-Matthews/Trocheck.
Things can change but so far top two NA lines are Canadian (McDavid with Drouin and Scheifele) and American (Eichel with Gaudreau and Saad).

I still think it's hilarious Matthews made this team. Like he's going to be a great player but to put him out against the best players in the world ahead of experienced players like Jenner and Galchenyuk is just bizarre. But I get it. Matthews + Toronto = tickets.

That's exactly what it comes down to, he's there for the hype machine. He's undoubtably going to be a fantastic player, but for him to be on the roster over Jenner or Galchenyuk today.. Foolish, especially when you consider that Galchenyuk while better as a Center is comfortable at all three forward positions.. That's valuable in a short tournament.

Matthews is a better talent than Jenner or Galchenyuk.
