Wow, still no Galy. He should have made the team over Miller and Matthews, at the very least. Who's running this team - honest question?

I'm wondering if they were planning on using Monahan in a bottom 6 role and thought that Trochek would be a more suitable replacement for the role.

Would be interesting if it were Gaudreau who was injured, would they replace him with a Huberdeau/Domi/Galchenyuk to play in the top 6?

Can't believe they didn't pick Galchenyuk, not that I don't like Trochek, but it's a bit surprising.

Great goal scorer but too one dimensional for a center and at least some of his success comes from Johnny.

Dont think this hurts team NA much.

Too one dimensional?? Are we talking about the same player?

Sean is an IQ hockey player, who just knows where to go to score goals. He isn't a forward who has a series of plays he runs over and over again. Big body who gets to the soft areas and holes in the ozone to get the best shooting lanes possible. Litterally a great shooter hash marks, but one dimensional he isn't. He is like a snake of sorts, show him a weak spot and he will strike. His two way game is sometimes overated but to call him one dimensional is fairly incorrect. Don't want to call you out on this but you don't watch western or Calgary games or your a fan of a rival/leafs team

I am a rival fan but watch a lot of Calgary games. More than any other team than the Oil and I just love watching hockey no matter who is playing.

Monahan can score forsure but his serpent like attacks often leave him in bad position and his skating isnt good enough to get him out of trouble.

One dimensional might be a bit harsh but his current two way game is very obviously lacking. He is young and that most likely will change but currently he is no Toews. Not even close.

Trochek over Galchenyuk makes no sense at all, which gives me more reason not to care about this meaningless tournament.

Flames fans do not see him as the next Toews.. And most understand the player he is but yet again staying very obviously lacking is an overstatement. Sean Monahan is average on NHL standard in his defensive play, and I would say that he skating has also gotten to the point where I am confident to say it was average. Sean does have the IQ like I previously mentioned so his coverage is good in the defensive zone it's sinply his physical game which is lacking when defending as he isn't overly physical. Saying he is horribad like you are implying is a bit out there though.. If you watch games like you say you do then it's obvious.

U23 just lost one of their top 6 centers who would play on their first PP unit.. This is a big loss, but this tourney is a joke anyway as Eichel, Mcdavid, Gaudreau, Trouba and a few others should be playing with the real team. Atleast without a doubt Mcdavid, Eichel and Gaudreau

Kinda sucks because I think it may force McDavid and Eichel to now have to play on different lines.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to put Trochek there over Galchenyuk or Jenner IMO.

Assuming I haven't missed anyone, we now have something like:

Saad-McDavid-Mackinnon
Gaudreau-Eichel-Drouin
Matthews-Nuge-Scheifele
Larkin-Couturier-Miller
Trochek

It isn't bad in terms of two two-way lines and two scoring lines, but it wouldn't seem like a bad option to add another threat on the powerplay at the right circle in Galchenyuk, or even another big body to crash and bang in Jenner.

Trochek is a RHS. That may have been an important consideration.
