I'd be shocked if Saad wasn't the captain. Experience, especially championship experience, is precious on a U24 team. And he plays a two-way game that all coaches like.

I think McDavid is kinda weird. I understand why Oilers would do it but on a mixed international team that doesn't sell NHL team jerseys.
I can totally see the C on the jersey making the difference between buying a McDavid Team NA cult jersey or not buying one.... NOT.

Saad provides that experience whether he wears a letter or not. As this tournament is more of a commercial, marketing event than a true international competition, and in Canada, from a pure marketing perspective, McDavid is the best choice for C.

That's a good point. Most people have just been complaining about the "gimmick teams" thus lumping them together but you're right, one is clearly much worse than the other.
It seems like some people will be rooting for team NA to win to embarrass the NHL while others will be rooting for them to be eliminated as soon as possible so that from that point, the tournament will be more or less "normal". I understand the logic for wanting the NHL to be embarrassed, the idiots who came up with this idea deserve it and I also understand the idea that if they get embarrassed, this idiocy won't happen again. I just think that this has occurred to them by now and the very idea that it could happen will make them smarten up for next time so I'm in the second camp.

That's a very good point indeed. It feels very absurd that your goal is to beat your own country in an "international" tournament. Some of these guys will play for team USA/Canada maybe as soon as the 2018 Olympics (if they can go).

Yes, but what do they gain by giving McDavid the C? I doubt more people will tune in to watch this garbage just because he wears the C.

agreed, there's not much, but McDavid jersey sales for one thing may be goosed with a C on it, a local area kid playing in a tournament hosted in T.O. Saad C or no C brings no marketing value whatsoever to this tournament, and if Team N.A. is to have any success here at all on the ice, it will be McDavid driving it, not Saad. but getting back to the money, every $ the NHL can squeeze out of this crapshow, that's what they'll do.

Really don't agree with Team North America. It takes away from the whole "best-on-best" concept. USA should have Eichel, Canada should have McDavid and Ekblad.
Why not just have the top 8 IIHF-ranked teams compete in the World Cup? Simple, and a better measure of who really is best.

I am hoping and now with all of Canada's injuries and brutal replacement selections they have a legit chance to win.

In what world is Rielly ahead of Ghost on the pp? Not saying he isnt the all around better D man he is but come on.
Gotta think Drouin Mackinnon and Gaudreau Monahan play as pairs the rest gets filled in based on role.
Matthews is more than likely the 13th forward as he is the only player with no NHL experience. Although he wouldnt look bad on the all american line of Larkin Matthews Eichel.

Yeah I just can't see myself cheering for Team Canada to lose ever but I totally get what you're saying. The more I think about it, the more it pisses me off that Connor McDavid, who I see as the future leader of Team Canada will be competing against Team Canada. Maybe the best thing that could have happened would have been for him to refuse to participate in this tournament saying "I will not play against Team Canada". Would have been even better if every player said the same. Oh well.

I agree. It would be foolish to not pair Gaudreau and Monahan on the 2nd PP. Such a short tournament, you have to take advantage of established chemistry.
Maybe in just less patriotic than everybody else but I feel like if I were playing for team NA I wouldn't have any trouble giving my all against my own country (canada). id want to prove to the older guys that we are just as good if not better than them, regardless of where they were located when they came out of their mother
I agree with this. I just wish canada and the states could of picked out of team north America's talent pool so the kids would have even more motivation after being left off the national teams.
