I don't know, judging by the comments I'm reading here we played much worse than at that game I've seen on TV. I'm still staying positive though. :)

I have one ****in question is this losers really all the best players that russia can put up without NHLers?

Very good question! This tournament is just beginning, so maybe there will be improvement, but the question that you raise about the RHF, and whether enough is being done to develop talent in the country, is clearly the right question. Among the remaining 8 teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs, there aren't that many Russians still in, so why is it, out of a population base of 145 million, that there aren't more talented and capable players available to be picked from?

I think, overall, Tretiak has been slow to bring about the growth and improvement to recover from the 1990's. The number of rinks remains the lowest per capita, by a big margin, among the top 8 hockey nations. The level of coaching continues to be low, which helps to explain why the defense continues to be a big problem year after year. Tretiak is a legend in the sport, but I can't be overwhelmed by his accomplishments in the RHF.

Well said! And there is no doubt that Canada is the gold standard in hockey. If you aim for the top, you are aiming at Canada.

Russia and Canada will always be each others biggest rivals, but lots of respect both ways.

You guys will bounce back from the Czech game, now go win your group :). We have a gold medal to play for against each other.

If Russia finishes 3 or 4 in their pool do they travel to Petersburg for their quarter final? Or does the 1st or 2nd place team in Petersburg have to go to them in Moscow? I was under the understanding that 1st and 2nd in Petersburg stay there for their quarter

One thing is for sure though how come Russia with such a tremendous sports history and great coaching all around can't get decent coaching for hockey for so long?

you do know you need much more time to develop a coaching culture?

we are still sufferng from the school of coaces being destroyed in the 0s. Thanks, US!

I hope you are not at this board by accident. Otherwise you would know the names of Radulov, Kovalchuk, Syomin...

And then there are Buchnevich, Gusev, Paigin who should be there too instead of Znarok's selection of Lyubimovs and Telegins.

I could give you even more names, but I guess it would be too revolutionary to consider with the roster we have now.

Despite the loss, plenty of positive things to note: Panarin is trying to be a leader there, Datsyuk is at least good, Lyubimov and Marchenko were very solid, some decent stuff also from Telegin and Burmistrov.

I totally didn't like Shirokov though, also Chudinov shouldn't have taken that penalty in the first.

:laugh:Lyubimov and Telegin with their stone hands shouldn't even be there.

I was surprised by Burmstrov's speed. He still can't finish.

And I still don't know why Chudinov is on the roster.

Panarin is by far the best player. I agree with above guy though, should have brought Gusev, Golyshev or Buchnevich. Too much mediocrity in Shirokov, Telegin, Lyubimov and Plotnikov (dead weight). Well, this should spell the end of Znaroks. Maybe Vorobiev is next in line, or god forbid keenan.

Panarin IS the best player on this roster. And I totally agree on the dead weight.

What we need is competent administration and decisions based not on favouritism but hard headed pragmatism as in the old days. You see an issue and you rectify it as with the netminding issue. With all the money ploughed into a few high prestige rinks it might be better developing the grass roots more.

Give kids subsidies to play, improve talent identification and get the best coaches in. Something that happened at the old Ice/Sport/Chess Palaces. The loss of coaching talent over the last twenty years has been appalling over a range of sports and it's no coincidence that our rivals in other disciplines have benefited enormously from it.

Amazing that Gusev was cut...... Lyubimov...... A player in the past that would never have been even remotely near the national selection. Aimless unthinking lump.

Really hope that Panarin is fine and will be able to continue the tournament.

Actually I was much positive after the loss against CZE than after today's win.

D is so soft, particularly Yemelin, Voynov and Antipin. Shipachyov is good at offense, but looked like a total liability in defensive zone. Dadonov with two offensive zone penalties. :shakehead Shirokov is as usual. :shakehead Mozyakin has a great shot, yes, but he overuses it a bit. Also I don't exactly understand the role of Antipin on the PP, would prefer Zaitsev there.

I still like Lyubimov though, was also positively impressed by Burmistrov and Kalinin. Zaitsev and Marchenko should be given some bigger roles.

Is Bob soft ? Or is it that the defence infront of him is so porous. Anyone can score on it. Would have preferred seeing Sorokin in net today. Zaitsev is a smooth skater, inventive but needs to be a bit tougher around the boards and net. Several times the defence was outmuscled and shoved about in the crease with relative ease.

If Provorov was available they could have stuck him on a fourth line and brought in Paigin as well. No one is masterminding the PP. It is a shambles despite the goals scored on it. Remember this is Kazakhstan.

Could somebody please let me know once there is an update on Panarin's status?

No updates as yet but worrying especially for Russia as he looks one of the few inventive players on the team. If he is out at least he'll have the summer off before training camp for the Hawks. And miss that stupid pointless World Cup freakshow.

Bob could be blamed for the third goal, but I wouldn't like to do that as Antipin was loosing his matchup in front of Bob there, that won't make a goalie feel good. Also Bob really made an important save at the end of the second period, which somewhat compensated it.

It's premature to suggest Russia's downfall when they have still played 2 games.

Playing against Czechs and unable to score a single goal is pathetic. Wonder that Czechs even won it against Latvia yesterday.

Playing against Kazachstan and let 4 goals in and made just 6 goals from so many goal chances is again pathetic.

Now lets take harder oponent like Fins, Swedes, USA or Canada which are comparable in power with Russia how will that look you think ?

Anybody has information about Panarin's injury? Will he continue playing at WC?

Who will be in roster (3 places) in case if Ovi, Kuzya, Orlov, Kulemin, Kucherov, Nesterov, Namestnikov, Tarasenko, Malkin won't be able to come?

4 places actually. In that case I guess we will try to get Radulov back to life. If that's not happening too, then we will grind: Averin, Apalkov, Andronov, Sannikov. :)
