I agree that pick 1a should be a priority, it just would have been nice to kill two birds with one stone this year. Only a miracle will save Pittsburgh now. Their schedule is just brutal but if they can at least beat the teams chasing them down they might just squeak in.
 
Okay now I'm worried about the Pens pick. Damn we really need that pick!

There is speculation the Pens might retool if they don't make the playoffs this year. It is possible they come in to next year with a worse team than this one. Very important we get the pick this year imo. Plus, they get our 2nd next year, which is probably going to be high, instead of their own 2nd this year if we don't get the pick this year.

Yeah but I'd much rather have this years pick.

Plus it has to do with the 2nd rounder that is heading back to the Pens. This year we'd send back their 2nd rounder, essentially moving up 30 spots. Next year we'd be sending them our 2nd rounder, which could be really high, therefore we could only end up moving up 15 or 20 spots.

This years would be best to get, as it's a guaranteed 30 spot upgrade on the pick we give up (PIT 2nd)

Next year, worst case scenario we are last in the league and PIT wins the cup, we give them our 2nd (31st) and we get their 1st (30th). Of course that's probably not going to happen, but it'll most likely improve less than 30 spots, like this years would have.

To try and look at the bright side of Malkin getting hurt, At least if they do make it into the playoffs they sure seems like a first round exit in the waiting.

Couldn't Gino have just played thru the pain for us? lol
 
So Malkin is out, which sucks, but Kronwall is out as well. That should be a big blow to Detroit, should help the Pens.
