I remember losing that game meant the Leafs would have got them at worst the 8th pick in the 2014 draft. Since they selected William Nylander that year at least one good thing came from that team.

Two needs, 1st. line center, #1 defender

If you could use all the Leafs picks from the first 3 rounds to land those two players I'd be in. I realize they would be landing potentials, not guarantees.

So Leafs 1st., Penguins 1st.(hopefully), 2*2nd., 2*3rd., and even one of Kadri and van Riemsdyk for Matthews and Chychrun and couple late round picks. Swallow hard!

Ideally, Leafs win Matthews, and that makes it easier to land the potential #1 defender, but I'm counting on the Leafs getting 4th. overall, and anything better is a bonus.



We hope Hunter is a master with those late round picks ...

Most of the late picks will come from Europe, four years to evaluate them.

Yeah, they need 3-4 points at least from their 3 upcoming games against the Flyers (without the Flyers picking up points in extra time) and they'll squeak in.

DET with the OT win. Rangers looked like roadkill all game, yet were leading late. Eric Stiff takes a penalty, and even then NYR penalty killers missed the empty net by inches, and also hit the post. So close.
If DET plays like this tomorrow there's no way we can help the Pens out.

Yaaaa we're not getting that pick boys. To bad Lou wasn't in on that deal, thats all we can say I guess. Theres no way of knowing if/how he would of structured the deal differently. But i'd like to believe that he could have removed some of the strings from that pick. IMO the only chance pit has is if they take 2/3 games against the flyers here. To bad that the flyers have been dummying them for years though.

I still think the Penguins get into the playoffs and for sake of the Leafs 1st round pick, if Detroit plays like that tomorrow isn't it better for the Leafs in the long term? I know if they finish last overall it's only a 20% chance at the 1st pick, however I feel more comfortable knowing they are in that position. Plus while it would suck if they don't get a top 3 pick at least they will get the 4th overall pick by finishing last place overall and it will guarantee getting the first pick of rounds 2-7.

No they absolutely don't. We don't need to trade for players at this point. We need 1-2 years to see what our previous picks turn into. During that time, expect more bottom finishes for the next 1-2 years. We're not in a position to trade for specifics right now. We need EVERYTHING.
