I still wonder if it would have been a guaranteed 1st round pick if Lou Lamoriello was their GM at the time? One thing that has bugged me is that Phil Kessel is traded for a conditional 1st round pick, despite his contract and one bad 82 regular season games in Toronto, where as Boston got a guaranteed 1st round pick from San Jose for Martin Jones and Jones never played a game for the Bruins.

Do we know if the SJ pick is lotto protected?

what I mean is, just protected IF it wins the lotto, not just being eligible for the lotto.

Watching Kessel play in a Pens uniform I am just glad to be rid of him, retained salary and conditional pick was worth it.

The Sharks 1st round pick in 2016 is not lottery protected. At one point this season the Sharks were around 27th place overall and there was a thread on the main boards asking how do the Bruins get so lucky trading for other teams 1st round picks?
