Hunwick says he's about to have surgery for a sports hernia. Has been bothering him for four weeks. Was causing other problems.

The Leafs are probably just trying to build up some sort of value for Marincin and will move him in the off-season.

I think he was acquired as a means to add depth on the blue line as management was uncertain if guys like Percy, Harrington, Loov would be ready .. In the process they were hoping that he could show some steady play under Babcock, while the younger d-men break into the league, so that they could build little more value for Marincin and flip him for a higher draft pick than they gave up to get him.

I don't think he's done quite that yet but I do believe he won't be with the Leafs next season if one of those aforementioned younger guys plays well down the stretch. My bet is Loov plays well and takes his spot on the bottom pairing next year.

And there lies the issue. They have to think not only about next year but about 5 years from now as well.

If they are intent on Nylander and Marner being centers and if they want to bring in Stamkos do they want to dedicate 5m a year to Kadri?

Also I see Kadri playing hard ball and wanting more $ or longer/shorter term.

Anyways I think he is good off season trade bait.

Stamkos may not even hit free agency, and it looks like Marner is going to be a winger.

You can sign Kadri to a 5 year deal now, and just trade him later if others are about to push him out the lineup. Or just move 1 of those centres to the wing. I'd rather have a team with three guys capable of being top six centres than only two.

I always wondered what Babcock see's in him, because I think he has been the most disappointing player among their Defenseman. If the Oilers wanted to trade him doesn't that tell you something?

People mention this all the time and I don't really get it. Oilers are pretty much the worst organization in the league at evaluating players. Marincin could as well have been a budding star, and they would have gotten rid of him anyway for the superficial reasons they had.

the guy plays 27 minutes last night and now all of a sudden we hear about this sports hernia LOL...Hunwick got Robidas'd by Lou. Look I'm sure he needs surgery but this is hilarious...the guy has played throughout the injury (it's believed he injured himself 2-3 weeks ago) so far and now we're just hearing about it after he plays probably one his most busiest nights. Lou is not letting anyone get last spot
