I'm not sure who I'd rather us get. Will have to see how the season starts out.

Obviously we could use a great center prospect like Matthews or going for help on the blueline would also be greatly important.

But could end up around the 5 spot so will have to see who shakes out in terms of holding those spots. So much tends to change over the course of a draft season.

Realistically we want both a center and Defensemen, but I feel like D can be bought a little more in the Free Agency than a top line center.

I can see it already...anything less than 2nd overall and leafs fans will cry...:help:

I think everyone should just temper expectations...the new lottery can mess everything up.

So we can drop 3 spots as a result of the new draft lottery system - good thing the Leafs have Hunter/Dubas picking because with the their luck thats exactly what's gonna happen.

Are people really wishing for Matthews? Another center? Marner, Nylander and maybe even Kadri and we want more centers?

We need to address the D before anything. Don't be like Edmonton and stockpile forwards for 7 years just draft the defender. Even if you get the 1st overall just trade down and pick up the guy you know you need **** BPA.

It simply means that you have a lottery for the first three picks among all non-playoff teams. Those not selected in the lottery will be placed in the usual order, worst team at #4 and on from there.

The part about the proportionate basis for the lottery draws simply means that for example if the 30th placed team survives to the third lottery, they'll have as much of an advantage over lower placed teams as they did in the earlier lotteries, even though the odds will be higher as there are less teams remaining.

Ugh. That didn't make it much clearer, did it?

1 established center and two prospects with top 6 upside isn't much when both prospects have a chance to end up at the wing. We need more center prospects almost as much as we need D-men.

Lol - thanks anything helps - the wording is dense sometimes with the NHL press releases. It would be s nice for the Leafs to catch a break instead of being on the wrong side - I guess Arizona was the big loser this year though - Strome instead of Eichel due to the NHL and it's lottery system.

Almost :). In the end unless it's insanely close just take the better player and look into trades.

I'd still lean to the D-man as the bigger issue right now. If Marner and/or Nylander have really strong years at center that should establish them enough to be less worried on the subject.

I'll still take the best player, but it'd be nice if the best player was an insanely good d-man :).

Both kids have elite offensive talent. If you watch the Marlies Nylander plays exactly like a center and you can bet he plays center for the Marlies next season.

Walking into another season with a core of Matthews, Marner, and Nylander not to mention guys like Brown, Kapanen, Hyman, Bailey, and Leipsic are good winger prospects that stand a good chance to be NHL players.

Going 2 consecutive drafts passing on amazing, game changing defensive talent is silly with the amount of talent we have at forward.

I think it makes sense to wish for a centre if he appears to be better than all the centres you have.

Our current roster looks like this:

JVR-Bozak-Lupul
Panik-Kadri-Parenteau
Winnik-Holland-Komarov
Sill-Spaling-Arcobello
Bailey/Carrick

Reilly-Phaneuf
Gardiner-Polak
Marcinin-Robidas
Hunwick/Brewer

Bernier
Reimer

You honestly think this will be a "better" team than last year's?

I think this will be a better team as far as working there ass off.

And give the fans something to cheer about up to the deadline.

Then if we aren't in a lottery spot we will be after the deadline.

This yr it will be about hitting the bottom.

Next yr they will be looking for a more skilled competitive team.

But this yr it will be trying to get one of the top three pks

Mathews
Chychrum
Puljujarvi

I feel like people don't want Matthews or are hoping their hardest that the leafs don't take him because he's from Arizona, USA.

The kid is in the Eichel/McDavid tier. He looks better than Eichel did at the same age and if he played in the WHL I bet he would go aroun 2 ppg.

Having Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Kapanen puts the leafs at an enviable position with a wealth of forward prospects to do with whatever they want. (and remember these are only young first round talents I didn't count guys like Bracco or Dzierkals etc who could come out of nowhere in terms of NHL development.

Anyways outside of the top 3 guys, I really like Keller, Bellows, Steel, Bean, Tkachuk, Jones, Krys and Clague

Matthews/Puljujarvi or even Tkachuk would give us an unreal offense.

Tkachuk/Puljujarvi-Marner-Kapanen
JvR/Kadri-Nylander-Brown

Or

Nylander-Matthews-Kapanen
JvR/Kadri-Marner-Brown

I honestly think that we can find elite defensive prospects from any position. So I am not going to be worried if it's Chychyrun or Jim Joe Bob we draft in the 4th round. I do not think we are in the position to worry about drafting for position, period.

I am only saying that, because I can see the Leafs drafting say Pulujuvari and people freaking the heck out that we took a winger, regardless of the fact that he is a beasty, beasty, player. Or if we were to draft Brown it will be "why not Chychyrun" I think we'll have to see what the year plays out and look who could have untapped potential, (especially with the defense) because it really feels like the Leafs will do just that.

Was just about to come and post how talented this guy is. Insane for a 6'0 player that much skill, he's a shot first guy but he sees the eyes in such a way it wows you everytime he's with the puck.

Pretty sure Puljujarvi is more like 6'4
