It simply means that you have a lottery for the first three picks among all non-playoff teams. Those not selected in the lottery will be placed in the usual order, worst team at #4 and on from there.

The part about the proportionate basis for the lottery draws simply means that for example if the 30th placed team survives to the third lottery, they'll have as much of an advantage over lower placed teams as they did in the earlier lotteries, even though the odds will be higher as there are less teams remaining.

Ugh. That didn't make it much clearer, did it?

If you finish last in the league, the worst you can draft is #4.

Is Matthews really => Eichel? If not then how about this for fantasy

Strome has a great year in Eerie without McD and is the real deal.
Leafs win the lottery and gets 1oa

Leafs trade 1oa +
to
Arizona for Strome +

Arizona gets their homie as do the Leafs

Leafs lose that one badly. Not only is Matthews easily the better prospect, he is also a year younger.

I think it makes sense to wish for a centre if he appears to be better than all the centres you have.

Yup, trade Kadri, keep Nylander on the wing, run Matthews-Marner down the middle. Problem solved. Our own version of Fedorov-Yzerman.

Too many good players at the same position never a bad problem to have.

I wouldn't waste Chychrun on a pairing with Rielly. They're both left handed Dmen, and it would be more beneficial if we can have an elite puck mover on the first and second pairings in Rielly and Chychrun for over 40 minutes a game.

Yes. Hometown means nothing. Matthews is an incredible talent.

If were outside of the bottom 5, some guys I really like are jost, steel, clague and Benson. It would be nice to pick up a potential 1C or #1D but the only close to surefire way of doing that is by picking in the top2, and I dont think were going to be the worst team in the league next season.

This past draft there seemed to be 4 tiers in the first round:

Top Tier:

McDavid, Eichel

Second Tier:

Marner, Hanifin, Strome (Maybe Provorov/Zacha)

Third Tier:

Picks 6 - 11 or so.

Fourth Tier:

Everybody else.

I know in 2016 the two big guys are slated to be Matthews & Chychrun, who are some of the guys who project to be in that next group?

It would be huge for our rebuild if we could get one of the top two picks, but we need at the very least to be in the second group of guys again like this year.

I think we have a solid shot, but who knows with the new lottery. The Sabres and Oilers are both expected to see significant improvement this year, meanwhile we've lost our best player without getting really anything immediate back.

I think us and the Coyotes look like the favourites to finish last as things stand now. NJ would probably be in the mix too based on their roster, but I can't see them doing too badly with Schneider in net.

Clague is a good player. Top 10 not out of the question.

I can certainly see the Leafs drafting a small and unbelievably skilled Clayton Keller. This seems to be the trend for the Leafs. A 5'9 165lbs Center. I have a feeing he is going to put up some big numbers this season.

Just a snippet what he can do.

:amazed:

What? You like a player 5"9?

Although, he looks amazing. Was watching him at 14 on video, total stud.

Keep and eye out for 16 year old Dillon Dube of my Kelowna Rockets as this kid has some sick skills and compete engine.

I expect him to have a big breakout year this year as a 17 year old.

two other intriguing players to keep an eye on are Luke Green and Charlie McAvoy who look like they'll be first round picks and with them both being right handed d-men they may be in high demand come draft day.

How do you rate this draft 2016?

I have seen some really bad drafts and we just got spoilt by 2015 and now think if you tank and get a top 5 pick it is auto star. Not so, I bet over the years if you look at the top 6 to 10 picks in each draft you will see a lot of failure. How does this draft look/rate guys?

Unlikely. Maybe Chychrun or Matthews have a shot at being better, but if Marner were in this draft class he easily challenges for #1.

Matthews is said to be at least equal to Eichel, who Marner didn't challenge for 2nd overall, so...

If Chychrun builds on last season, Marner would probably challenge him but I'm not sure he would be the favourite there...

We're going to have a lot of picks next year. If they can get another 1st at the deadline and Pittsburgh makes the playoffs (both easily possible) we'll have 4 picks in the top 40.

If Polak has a pretty good year and we don't see him in our future plans, then I think we could get a 1st or 2nd for him at the deadline. Robidas might be able to get another 3rd-5th round pick also.

Could do another package deal like Franson and Santorelli. We'll be restocking to cupboards big time.
