Before I saw him and only watched highlights a few months ago.. he was 10 on my list. Now that I've seen him play and have continued to keep more of an eye on him he's #6 in my top 15.

1. Matthews
2. Laine
3. Puljujarvi
4. PLD
5. Chych
6. Jost
7. Sergachev
8. Tkachuk
9. Keller
10. Nylander
11. Fabbro
12. Juolevi
13. McLeod
14. Brown
15. Gauthier

It will be interesting how it all plays out. After the lottery it will be a little easier to focus on potential picks. Still holding out hope for a little lottery luck.

We just picked Connor who was picked 15+ for the same reasons last year. And he wasn't even good enough to make his U20 team at 18 :sarcasm:

It definitely means something that he is finally playing side by side against many other soon to be draft picks and he looks among the best.

It'd take a couple teams jumping us in the lottery for him to end up being our pick I'd guess.

The difference between Connor and Jost is that Connor's league was only marginally worse than the OHL whereas there is a huge dropoff between the OHL and BCHL.

Jost is producing at 2.17PPG in the BCHL which doing some math based on NHLe numbers here http://nhlnumbers.com/2012/7/28/forwards-and-nhle-2012-draft should amount to around 1.01 PPG OHLe... NHLe isn't perfect but the numbers are meh. Although to be fair Turris had similar numbers in the BCHL so who knows.

Then there's Jamie Benn who had just a bit over 1ppg in the BCHL when he was drafted

I was looking at the record database for Winnipeg draft picks since 2011 and liked what I saw. The lowest draft pick was taken at 7th overall in 2011 for Scheifele, and we all know how well that turned out. At 9th for 2011 and 2014 we took Trouba and Ehlers, at 13th and 17th in 2013 and 2017 we took Morissey and Connor.
This year will be our lowest draft pick ever chosen at 6th overall.
Should be a good player

We are most likely to pick 7th with about 40% chance

Edit: these are the odds:
1 - 7.5%
2 - 7.8%
3 - 8.2%
4&5 - 0%
6 -17.5%
7 - 39.3%
8 - 17.9%
9 - 1.7%

Who are some sleepers from rounds 4 to 7 you guys like/would be interested in drafting?

How did Howden look? He had 5 points. Not sure why no one else here is talking about him with the other two Jets picks.

I'd take him with our 2nd rounder but prefer a lot of others over him in the first. I've watched him a tonne this season with the warriors so my opinion of him is probably biased due to seeing a lot of his deficiencies.

Same here my rankings and my mock are different but I think we can still snag a solid player within the top 10. Especially if some reaches happen.

Thanks for the numbers. Interesting. I don't know, 39.3% for 7th pick seems low. I'll be watching the draw on the 30th with popcorn wishing for that 7.5% chance

He's looked good ever since he joined the team and the puck just seems to find him. He knows where to be.

I have that plus reacting to his brother with the Leafs plus some comments I saw months ago that he is not as good as his brother. I just wouldn't want to have the wrong Nylander to go with the wrong Klingberg and the wrong Raffl (and probably the wrong Tanev too).

What would you do if Chevy traded for Jordie Benn? :)

Been hearing Chychrun has been looking pretty bad in the U18's. Kind of fits with what I saw in the U20 camp. Sergachyov and Juolevi are preferred for me. However, I wouldn't be upset with Chychrun. Kid will still be a surefire NHL player...but I think Juolevi and Sergachyov's upside is much higher.

Breaking It Down:

If lucky:
Matthews/Laine/Puljujarvi

PLD/Jost/Tkachuk/Juolevi/Chychrun/Sergachyov at 6.

McAvoy/Fabbro/Aspland/Rubtsov/Kunin/Laberge at ~21

GG. :)

------------------------------------------

"The Dream Scenarios" if not top 3:
PLD/Jost/Tkachuk at 6
Fabbro at 21.

or

Sergachev/Juolevi at 6.
Aspland/Rubtsov/Kunin (a forward) at 21. (maybe a Chevy faller like Keller :) :) :D)

Who do I feature?

Every year we have a draft party and I put together a synopsis of prospect reviews for guests. That means I need to make a guess as to who might be available, and who might interest the Jets for their 1st rounder.

Here is the list of my "featured" prospects for the past two drafts (in no particular order):

2014

Bennett, Reinhart, Ekblad, Ehlers, Ritchie, Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Nylander, Larkin, Fleury, Tuch, Fiala, Virtanen, Kempe

2015

Konecny, Connor, Meier, Merkley, Svechnikov, White, Boeser, Chabot, Zboril, Juulsen, Ek Eriksson, Guryanov, Sprong, Bittner, Harkins, Roy, Carlo, DeBrusk, Carlsson, Larsson, Kylington, Beauvillier

Assuming we pick around #6-8, who would you feature for our first pick?

Assuming we pick around #21-24, who would you feature for our second pick?

Generally, I include players that: a) might be available (though I am a bit relaxed on this), b) seem likely to be of interest, c) are prospects that I like.

Well after the 30th hopefully you can do up a big spread on Matthews ;) But at least put a couple of the top D-man in that 6-8 range. I have a feeling this draft we are walking away with a LHD. Personally I'm hoping for Jacob Chychrun.

I like to cast the net a bit wide....

If we get a top-3 pick, how about.... Matthews, Laine, Pulju, PLD, Chychrun, Tkachuk, Juolevi, Serg, Nylander, Jost.

If we are #6-8.... Pulju, PLD, Chychrun, Tkachuk, Jost, Juolevi, Serg, Fabbro, Keller, McLeod, Nylander, Bean, Rubtsov, Brown, Bean.

Thoughts?

For #22-24, I'll need to do some more research, and would welcome suggestions.

Lately with some of the talk of the guys in the 10-15 range I really want Chevy to trade up from the CHI pick (depending on what we would have to add) to grab 2 impact players. I know its been posted about to death but think if Boston had picked Zboril, Connor and Barzal last year...

I would not do this, not a fan. Keep the second, our second and third picks will be some good players quantity this year for me. Plus zboril and barzal are not even guarantees to make it.

I'm okay with Jost can we just take him now and run?

If we don't move up to the top 3, or if a guy like PLD or Tkachuk doesn't drop to 6 or 7, I am fully on board with taking Jost over one of the D. I've loved watching him in the U18's.
