IF that was the contract that was actually offered, which UFAs would you guys be comfortable taking it?

Lucic was not going to take a pay cut, I think it is plausible he was offered 6x6.
Maybe the sticking point was not getting an NMC.

At 6 million he probably could be traded as soon as next year if Vegas would not nab Brown or Gabby.

Makes total sense actually.

what about all the reports that contract talks broke down over LA not wanting to go over 4 year term?

The $6M is believable, but I am guessing LA went max 5 years.

What's the difference between 5 or 6? It does not matter

You got Toffoli due a big raise next year, you can roll the dice (pun intended) that Vegas will take either Brown or Gabby off you hands. That fixes things.

If not, and you were still in a bind, you can ship Lucic out for picks or prospects.
Actually that would be a very smart way to handle it.

But if dude throws in an NMC demand, and I would if I were him, because his agent probably thinks LA might just do what I say, then the deal cannot be done.

Unless there is some rule in the CBA I am missing, and the Kings cannot trade him after 1 year. This is how you would manage the situation

Guess will see what he ends up getting on Friday...

Really depressing the whole Lucic thing.

In terms of D, Kings have Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, McNabb and Greene. That is 5 everyday players right there. Then you have Scuderi, Forbort and Gravel battling for spots 6 and 7. I don't see the Kings signing another D man to a long term deal because the 5 players above aren't going anywhere soon...so that would leave one of Scuderi or Forbort on waivers and Gravel back in the AHL.

Scuderi is this year's Schultz, or should be, in the fact he should be sent to the AHL and be there in case of injury.

Greene, I would put as battling with Forbort and Gravel.

Bring in Hamhuis and then move out Frobort/Greene and I would be happy

edit: as for the lucic thing if he gets a 7x7 deal than we should be happy DL walked away

I was bored the other day and starting thinking...this was before yesterday obviously.
Kings sign Stamkos and then trade a package TT and Brown...TT and Stamkos are in the same age group, would cost kings cap sapce (i estimated 10M for stammer vs 7M for TT) and a team like a NJ/Az (tons of cap room) could take on brown to get TT
I know a lot of moving parts...but just where my mind took me...lol...was i completely out to lunch?

Would be nice to dream about that is for sure. Not sure I would do it because when Drew needs an extension it will be big dollars too. Not sure about 3 10M + men

From everything you read, Brown won't/can't be traded. Nobody needs his contract to reach the floor. Toffoli is probably going to get $6m-ish on his next deal. Who is going to take on $12m in cap space just to add a 30 goal winger? Toffoli is good, but he's not that good. Teams can sign some 3rd line guy at $6m for 1 year if they need to reach the floor. The only reasons Arizona took Datsyuk was because they don't have to pay him any money, and it's for 1 year. Brown's contract is a brick wall of reality the Kings can't get around. Who knows what combination of the 1st, Miller, and Jones it took to get Boston to retain 50% on Lucic. Why was Lucic brought in at 50%? Because Brown scores 11 goals for $6m.

If Vegas takes Brown for some reason, great. If not, and the Kings don't buy him out, and it's not a cheap buy out, figure on Brown's contract being here until at least 2021.

Hamhuis fits the mold in that he averaged 21:25 at ES, 1:23 on the PP and 2:36 on the PK. So you have that 2 way dman. The issue that scares me is he misses about 20 games a season the last 5 years. He would be an older, more fragile version of Voynov, on the ice, so it depends on the market. I have to believe many NHL teams are looking for a guy like Hamhuis, can't get in a bidding war for a 3rd defenseman.

I'd like to see the Kings make Eric Staal a short term offer. Great player, big with skill, hard working, a former Cup champion, and former captain. Staal is not in the driver's seat and can't really demand a long term deal. His camp is not expecting a long term deal. He needs to re-establish himself after a rough season. The Kings could provide Staal a great spot at 3C and some power play time. Maybe a 1 year deal for $4 million? He could fill a huge hole until Kempe is ready.

I'm a bit worried on his price tag as well since Larsson is the mere price for Taylor freakin Hall...

Staal would be the kind of reclamation project Lombardi has gone for before, with varying levels of success. Handzus, Gagne, Mitchell, Stuart, McCauley I suppose. Might be able to throw Penner in there. Staal's value has never been lower. $4m seems like a lot though, even for 1 year, when the Kings have cap and other roster issues to deal with.

Hamhuis in 2016 would be basically the same as Mitchell in 2010. Early to mid 30's, some injury questions, but still good if he's in the lineup. Plus, Vancouver to LA. If it worked as well on the ice, that would be a contract worth doing. Like was said, it would depend on the exact numbers of the deal.
