I ran it once and got:
1.Arizona
2.Canucks
3.Avalanche

bout as good as it could get for not winning the lottery in my books
If Arizona picks first and we pick second, we've won the lottery.

The chances of that are lower than the chances of winning #1 overall, but it guarantees that we take the best player in the draft, Patrik Laine.

Hey guys, I flipped a coin 5 times and it landed on heads 4 times. Discuss.

:sarcasm:

I spent two hours last night flipping coins and didn't get heads a single time. When I did it this morning I got heads and feel much better.

If Keller is going to be a top 20 NHL scorer regularly, that's saying he is a franchise player... Should we expect Button to put him above Matthews/Laine on his next list then. How many franchise players really come out of the top 10 per draft?

Why? I'm curious if it has to do with the strength of the prospects at those positions or maybe an acknowledgement that defensemen are easier to find later in the draft?

Thanks for all the info. We're lucky to have so many good contributors to this thread.
Both. I don't think its a particularly strong year for defense, in terms of the top-end. There is no Hedman/Ekblad/Hanifin/Provorov level of defender in this draft. Like i said with Chychrun, i think he has the greatest likelihood of becoming a true #1 of the options available, but I'm not sure he makes it to that level. I see the defenders, Chychrun/Serg/McAvoy on a level of a Werenski/Nurse, a step below the tier noted above.

I think we should definitely target a forward with our 1st and luckily, it is shaping up that a forward should be consensus BPA. I have always sort of preferred forwards at the draft high up in the draft, rather than defenders as they are much more difficult to read and develop, and they take longer to develop as well as make an impact at the NHL level. It is rare for defenders to be able to adapt like Ekblad/Hanifin have. I don't see any of these defenders or anyone outside the top 3 being able to play right away. Chychrun might have the physique for it, but i think he should spend one more year in Sarnia for his development.

Closest list I've seen to my own thoughts personally (except I have McAvoy ahead of Sergachev; Keller ahead of Mcleod and Nylander, and Bean higher up). Others are similarly placed. Well done.
Thanks. Bolded is something i've contemplated as well.

If the worst case scenario happens and we end up at the 6th pick and Tkachuk and Dubois are gone, who do you guys want to take, Keller? Jost? One of the d?

I listened a recent interview with Woodlief and he described Sergachev as a defender who never makes mistakes.

I can't really defend that.

But hey, maybe he just hasn't watched Sergachev that much and the game he's watched he played extremely well. :dunno:

I looked at his previous lists (2014 & 2015) It really isn't all that bad.

Nylander, Jost, Bean. I would say McLoed but I have him on the same level as Jost and I think Jost fits better on the canucks.

I would trade down 2-3 spots. Take one of the 3 that drops.

Chychrun easily for me. I'm still a strong believer that he'll be a top 4 d-man at the very least, with a ceiling of being a low end #1 guy.

Who do you see as Beans comparables? I haven't seen much of him, other than that he seems a little slow. Like a Mike Green type?

Chychs reminds me to much of Phaneuf, he scares me the most. Getting an elite player this draft is of the upmost importance for our future, and we can't blow it on someone who has risk like he does.

Pick a smart offensive defensemen that has a wicked wrister that's bean.

It's a real shame he had to get injured right before the U18s I think he'd have shot up a bunch of peoples lists.

Jake Bean probably has the highest offensive upside in this draft. Kid's awesome.

We may rate him that high but I'd be a lot more impressed if we traded back to select him. With Nylander Keller Jost and Brown all climbing up and most of the D sliding back I think we could get the same player at 10-12 that we may want at 6.

I expect the average list looks more like this now:

Matthews
Laine
Puljujarvi
Tkachuk
Dubois
Nylander
Keller
Brown
Jost
Juolevi
Chychrun
Fabbro
Bean
Sergachev
MacLeod
McAvoy

Yeah, I don't really trust RLR. Some of their scouting reports just seem way off to me, even if I do like their boldness in rankings. I like McKeen's and and Hockey Prospect better, their scouting reports are more in line with what I've seen but obviously I don't agree with all of their rankings. Button gets a lot of flak as well, but I like that he differs from the consensus, he's actually made some good calls lately, obviously had some big misses in the past because he does make ballsy rankings.

seriously?? Phaneuf is a pylon at times, Chycrun is more a of a turn over guy, (kinda like a Alex Edler or Eddy Jovonovski) but none the less, Chycrun does have excleent offensive awareness, a much faster skater, and probably better "defending" wise then PHaneuf.

make a deal with Carolina and draft 13 and 23.

Cool, thanks.

How many forwards do you think have a chance to play in the NHL next season?
