Button was on the radio today with Sekeres and Price and it's a good listen

He basically had this as his top 10 groupings

Mathews/Laine/Puljujarvi
Tkachuk/Dubois/Keller/Brown/Nylander
Jost

Sergachev/Juolevi

-No defense really close to the group of forwards ahead of them.
-High on Brown and Keller.
-Keller will be in the top 20 nhl scoring regularly. Elite skating, vision, passing and creativity.
-Brown just keeps improving and has high potential. Could see him at 4
-Sergachev and Juolevi top D
-Bean, Fabrro ahead of Chychrun
-Boeser and Demko elite

His skating looks very bad in that clip.

He's never been a great skater, all he really needs to do is improve his first 3 steps and he'll be fine, his game has never been predicated on speed, like say a Rick Nash. Also, don't forget that he is a kid and 6'5, he'll gain strength and power once he stops growing, but quickness is really the only area where he could improve a little.

His crazy long reach and silky hands remind me of Mario, guy could probably play keep away for an entire period.

He's actually better suited to the NA game than the European one in my opinion.

I would be thrilled with him or Matthews, and agree that I could see him going #1 and not have an issue with it at all.

Game 4 highlights:

Laine's acceleration is not quite satisfactory at this point, but his skating coach has stated that it will be a high priority this summer. His overall skating has improved significantly in the past year, so we could see major improvements over the next two seasons. His top speed and agility are good, but those first steps need refinement. His game has developed at a rapid rate, though, so this shouldn't be an issue in the future. He has the best skating coach in Finland.

There are a lot of things about Laine's game that would improve dramatically if he had the required first two steps to do what he usually wants to do on the ice. If he can get to where he wants to be with his first two steps, he'll be an even deadlier force. I look forward to him getting to that point.

Thanks for sharing this! :)

Button seems pretty smart at judging young talent has done before esp with Boeser before the draft even so interesting and hopefully Benning takes some notes but TBH Benning is pretty good at drafting so far for us except for 2014 #6

Like what he said about Chychrun, and I fully agree with him from what Ive seen. I also agree that the Canucks will be walking away with a forward in the 1st followed by 2 D men with their 2nd and 3rd picks.

Watching the USA highlights from the U18 quater final... Damn matthews looks good

So.. basically what i've been saying for the last few months.

Keller has top line potential.

McLeod doesn't seem to have a very high offensive upside. More of a 2C.

The top of the draft is forwards heavy. Canucks should pick a forward for BPA.

Chychrun is not top D in draft.

He is not a 'plus' skater. Bean does not create separation with his top speed, nor does he accelerate past opponents in his first few steps. On the other hand, his edge work and overall agility is quite good. That doesn't equate to a plus skater overall, IMO.

As you just pointed out there is more to skating then top end speed. His acceleration is OK. His top speed is OK....the rest of his skating is very very good. More importantly he can stickhandle at his top speed. He's a stick at this point and if he builds up his lower body I think his speed issue wont be an issue. He's not Clendening who simply could not overcome his body type.

Brown could go real high and I get it. He's one of my real favourites in this draft along with Laine, Bean and Hart. Obviously not all top ten calibre.

Yeah I remember you talking about Keller as well. I think we have a similar view of the draft.

Even with the rise of Keller and McLeod, I don't think the Canucks should deviate from the original top 6 that were there for the majority of the season. Maybe Chuchurn drops, but I certainly feel safer having Tkachuk or Dubois instead of the former risers. There's a lot to be said about consistency in the prospects throughout the year.

But the Kellers and Josts have been consistent throughout the year.

Its not like they come out of nowhere and look good in the u18 tournament.

Keller is the u18 NTDP point leader by a large margin. If anything his PPG drop a bit in the last month or so. He's been very consistent.
Hell, he even played in last year's u18 tournament - as a 16 year old, and put up 9 points in 7 games.

Jost, has been one of the most dangerous players in the BCHL all year. 104 pts in 48 games. In his case, its probably the lower "quality" of competition that people worried about more than "consistency".
Jost was fantastic at the WJAC-19 as well.

If we had the 4th overall pick with the top 3 gone, would you take either over Tkachuk or Dubois?

Nice to hear Button on Bean, I think many in here really underrated him, I can see him being a beast in the NHL, a real offensive threat from the blue line. Would love to find a way to get him. The lotto can't come soon enough, the waiting to knowing where we draft is getting annoying, I want to know if we have a top 3 pick or pick 6, it's a bit annoying. Really want Laine.
