Hard concept for some, isn't it? Our having long term cap problems is to Vegas' advantage.

I think you both underestimate Muzzin's value with his contract and age, he could become a linchpin for their defense regardless of his downyear. Also, wtf is wrong with throwing out hypotheticals??? You guys make it seem like we're not on some fan site ???

I'm all for brining back Iginla on like a one year 2.5 mill deal. Anything more, no thanks.

No thanks. Doesn't make the Kings younger, faster or better. Based on a handful of games when the players around him aren't playing well most shifts, makes him look better. I have always been a fan of his (esp the leadership) but I don't think the Kings need a 40 yr old winger esp in the style they play. That's way too much for a 20 -25 pt player.

ALso, if he does decide to come back, he'll most likely sign with a team that has a legit shot to get a Cup.

Yet somehow Pavel Datsyuk got traded. Nathan Horton got traded. Scott Gomez got traded. Chris Pronger got traded. Marc Savard got traded. And on and on. And none of those guys could even play anymore.

Datsyuk was traded with the 16th pick to Arizona for the 20th, 53rd and Vitale.

Pronger got traded with Grossman to Arizona for Gagner a conditional 4th and/or a 3rd.

Datsyuk may have only had a year left, Pronger hadnt played in 3 years and had time left. No reason to think Kings couldnt do something similar with one of Gaborik or Brown. And as you can see by both, the extra was only small that you actually had to give up to get rid of them.

All different scenarios. Datsyuk had 1 year left on his deal, but even more than that, the Coyotes didn't have to pay him a dime because he left to play in Russia. They got him for the cap hit only. Horton was traded, but it was for Clarkson. Pronger got traded, but it was because everyone knew he was never going to play again, and the cap hit could be used on LTIR. Same with Savard.

Gaborik has 4 years left. Brown has 5 years left. Gaborik isn't injured enough to never play again. With him it's always a broken or strained something, not a concussion or a completely broken body. Very different situations than other cap dumps. You might be able to dump Greene's contract since he has just 1 year left. Brown or Gaborik aren't going anywhere for a small amount.

I'm fine with this line of thinking. For all the complaining about Amart and Muzz, they are still two very good dmen that most teams in the league would covet. I think fans get excited about the "kids" coming up. But really, it's just the idea of someone new.

People are all excited about Kempe and what he adds. But after 20 games he has 2g 4a, which if you expand that to 80 games you basically get Nic Dowd. Still excited? Lots of folks are saying to trade Amart/Muzz/Carter etc, but who replaces them most likely will not be anymore exciting.

It's unfair to judge Kempe's numbers on 20 games. Even if he had 20 points in 20 games, that wouldn't guarantee that he's not at 25 points in 80 games next year.

I'm still sticking to my theory that Lombardi, should he remain the GM, doesn't view this as a roster worth investing in yet. I think this was a prove it year, and for various reasons they didn't. I would think next year is the same. If they have a good first half, and look solid, maybe he does something bigger at the deadline.

If it's a different GM, I don't know how much he could do right off the bat anyway. That's why I'm not sure it's worth getting a new GM right now. A new GM doesn't make Brown or Gaborik more attractive. A new GM still has only a handful of guys worth trading.

Kempe is only getting 12:23 of ice time, :43 on the PP and in typical Darryl Sutter fashion :38 on the PK. If you look at his game log it's clear the person handing out the ice time has lost his mind so expecting better production with Sutter behind the bench is madness. We truly will not know what we have in Kempe and most of the Kings roster until Sutter is dispatched.

Exactly my point. GMs DO do each other favors. It's not a guarantee, but it does happen.

Apparently Brodizinksi is penciled in with Kopi tonight. Maybe we'll see the pairing that everyone has been clamoring for all year?

Then dump Greene's salary, there's a start. Dean had WAY too much loyalty, especially on this one. Why didnt Richards get caught with opiods in 2014? That would have made life easier. Why was it Voynov and not Greene that had the troubles? :naughty::naughty:

Hindsight is easy to look back on, Voynov was unavoidable, but I think 98% of the fans seen the massive decline in Richards and Greene, and a buyout to MR and no offer to MG would have been in the works and everyone would have been onboard. Those two alone would have created breathing room.

The Gaborik deal is just mind boggling, for the simple reason we were pretty much strapped at the time as it was. DL was considering buying MR out, it was in his head. DB's contract was not looking that great, MG was having injury issues. Yet, he signed Gaborik to a deal that was going to stretch us super thin. Sometimes, you have to walk away. He did it with Sekera and Lucic, but he had no options then.

Im still all for getting creative and moving one of them out. How you do it I dont know, or what it would take Im not sure either, but as a fan it would be nice to know. I can live with them being here and riding it out, if only we actually knew what it would take.

What's left to talk about?

Dean is stupid.
Kopitar is overpaid.
Brown and Gaborik's contracts are unmovable.
Clifford sucks.
Muzzin sucks.
Martinez sucks.
Trade Carter.
Lather.
Rinse.
Repeat.
This. Every thread is stale. Every thread is the same. It is what it is, I guess.

Oh, and Doughty is soft, cuz he didn't fight ****ing Tkachuk.

So who's taking Iggy's spot?

At a cheap price who would you pencil in there? He isn't merely a "20-25" pt player if his play here is any indication of his production.

These fans that root for more than one hockey team are weird. That's called being a fan of the sport, vs rooting for a team.

No diehard fan roots for a team other than their own.

Fact. **** off.

Five O'clock start early this Friday, Trout? :sarcasm:

I definitely don't agree with a lot of Dee's opinions, but she is a huge fan of the sport. Bigger fan of hockey than either of us, I'd imagine, as she loves the way the sport is going as opposed to how it used to be played whereas all I can muster these days--for the most part--is Kings hockey.

Migrated over here when Richards got moved. Loves the sport enough to post regularly on more than one team's board.

Love your passion Trout, but calm down on this one.

BigKing, my brother, 5 o'clock starts when I wake up :)

If we get to have a board full of malcontents, I get to be one, too. :D

I'm not doubting Dee's knowledge of our sport or our team (also, I think you severely under-estimate yourself, but that's just probably your humility), I'm just sick of all the same ****.

Dee, no disrespect, but our sub has been bombarded the last few days by a **** load of fans coming by to chirp, and while I am not putting you in that boat, perhaps I took more of my anger out on you in my post.

Big King, you're a hell of a poster, I'll stand down, my boi.

I didn't think you even went to sleep!

Thanks for the respectful words, but I am definitely more of a Kings fan than fan of the NHL at this point. A huge Kings fan like the rest of us that message board about the Kings too much, but I'm not tuning in to NBCSN and the Center Ice package went away for me a long time ago.

Thanks for relaxing. Since I don't watch the rest of the league much anymore, I need Dee's post in the "Around the League" thread to keep up on current events.

Also, the Flyers are my favorite franchise in the other conference and I've contemplated a Hextall jersey before he was employed by the Kings. Now with Simmonds over there and Hextall running the show, I pull for them.

Very quietly, however.

Hextall was amazing. A fiery, fierce competitor like our very own Quickie, Big King. No shame in quietly sneaking out the door with his jersey!

I'm like you, too much sports to dedicate my time to the league as a whole, and while I love Dee's contributions, even the Around the League thread has become muddled with more of the same ol' same ol'.

In any event, brother, Go Kings!

Thanks BK. And I am a huge fan of this sport and have been for a long time. I love everything about it, esp the amount of young talent in the league now. They are the future and watching them produce and contribute at 19, 20...and do it so well is amazing and exciting. I have seen many changes in the way the game 'is played' over the years and it is becoming a much younger man's game. A fast and very skilled game.

For the most part, other than a handful of posts over the years and none recent, the Kings board is the only one I post on. I discovered it in June 2011, and for the most part it's been a good ride.

Thanks for that, KT but it's all good. As you mentioned above I am a hockey fan and hope to always be one, I love the sport too much not to be. I respect your passion for the Kings, every fan has the right to root as they will. Thanks to center ice, I can watch at least 2 games each night. And living in Philly, it hasn't always been easy being a hockey fan in a town with very passionate Flyer fans. For a lot of them, the season ends in April when the Flyers are done. That's it until Oct and don't dare mention trading a player, esp one of the adored. I care a lot about the Flyers, but I am very objective about them and the changes that would help them become an elite team again. That usually isn't well received, so I've learned to pick my battles here. I love the Flyers ever since I discovered them (and hockey) by accident when I was in grade school changing the channels one night and they were on. I didn't understand the sport but recognized this guy wearing number 16 with Clarke on the back was pretty special. ANd the rest is history...

2nd only to Clarke when it came to Fire and absolutely adored by the fan base then and now and rightfully so. That passion he had , you need that to be a true champion, you can teach it or learn it, you either have it or you don't.
I was a fan from his very first game, he had that 'it' factor you can't define by word as much as by what you see and the effect.
He is one of only five Flyers I became attached to, because they for me, possessed the not only the skill but the intangible qualities and pure leadership that is just right by the sport. Stuff that comes from deep inside and reeks champion. Clarke, Dave Poulin, Mark Howe (loved Howe, great defenseman and a real class act) Hexy and Mike Richards.

There is a really good youtube Video of Hexy's finer moments in the crease, he did wield that stick like a sword. And had the shortest temper I've ever seen. But I like that in a goalie, used the right way, it fires a team up. As Quick has done over the years as well.

Unnecessary shot.

I have gone on record and said most of the June 2011 group of fans were a black eye to this board, and thankfully all but one of them have crawled back under their rocks, probably venturing over to the Caps board for a cup of coffee and and now probably posting about Northern Pike or Walleye somewhere.

But Dee has been a solid contributor here and has stuck with the Kings even after Richards moved on.

Sticktap Herby, thanks

I am a big fan of Dee. She's educated me about the game of hockey and gotten me interested in what's going on with other teams, where before I didn't care if it didn't involve the Kings. You gotta be careful where you aim that bazooka. She's one of our own.

Now I have to go find a gif to celebrate the Kings' win.

Okay, that I needed PJ, a good blush. Yesterday was my birthday and it started with gray, raw dismal windy rainy crappy day and went downhill from there. Although having the same birthdate as Gordie Howe is pretty cool for a hockey fan
