Dee, I do apologize. Sincerely. I was just having a bad hair moment. I was being an ass and I totally apologize.

ETA -- Herby, shut the **** up.

I am a big fan of Dee. She's educated me about the game of hockey and gotten me interested in what's going on with other teams, where before I didn't care if it didn't involve the Kings. You gotta be careful where you aim that bazooka. She's one of our own.

Now I have to go find a gif to celebrate the Kings' win.

Dee is awesome! And when you find that gif, please share, PJ, my brudda :yo:

Different strokes for different folks obviously, but I see lots of main board threads and complaints elsewhere about 'the state of the game' and frankly even despite the Kings slowing down I enjoy it as much as I ever have. Sure, the teams that stack 5 between their blue line and the red line can die in a fire, but with so much young talent in the league, the odds are that I can flip the channel and be entertained. Particularly by McDavid and Matthews, but I'm a big defenseman fan, and there are a LOT of standouts there across the league that are fun as hell for me to watch. Maybe there are less compelling rivalries right now imho, but the 'average game' to me is much more entertaining than it's been since the first lockout.

This made me laugh hard

I must admit I follow the league a bit less closely than I used to. Not so much because the product is down, but just because I am juggling more in my life now than I used to.

I do think all the pro leagues (with the exception of the NFL) would be better off if they cut the schedule by 25%, not only would each game mean more but the product would be better with no back to back games, but we know this will never happen.

I agree,

If the NHL played 72 games, it would be a lot better. I think the NBA/MLB would also be better with less games.

On the other hand if I was an owner of either sport and you proposed taking games off the schedule and money out of my pocket you're crazy. 81 home games for baseball, imagine the revenue and with the giant TV deals almost all MLB teams have the gate revenue is just an added bonus-81 times a year. I think over coaching is what's hurting sports, every fine detail of every game is now over analyzed, this guy can't go to his right, this guy can't hit lefties, this guy has a bad CORSI rating, so much information goes into all sports now it's removing the athleticism from games.

I wonder if the Caps plan on resigning Williams and/or Oshi in the off season? I think Oshi would be a good fit, but we would have to buy out Gaborik to make him fit, get rid of Lewis and Clifford, and trade AMart for a 1st and prospect. If we can't land him, I think we should resign Iginla, sign Vrbata, and target Williams if he is willing to sign a one year contract for one million.

Wow, what exactly did I say to **** you off so much?

Sorry, brother, I thought you were referring to me as the fan "sticking around". I apologize, brotha. I was sloppy last night.

I, also, agree with you guys about something needing to be done to shorten the season -- lot of folks saying that the MLB is already headed in that direction (and have been for a few years now -- but it looks like it's getting more traction).

Williams is no longer a top line player. This is ugly.no thank you

He has 22 goals so far on the season? How is that not top line. Also, any contract would be short term one or two years. So if his game completely falls off the map there are no repercussions.

As a caps fan I can say that Williams isn't top line player anymore. I can only hope he'll start produce and just play a lot better in playoffs time.

But Oshie..man.. he is pure gold and luxury to have in line up. Wherever he ends up, people will love him immediately.

Btw gotta say that I like this Brodz kid (ok, not a kid at all but he's still young even by hfboards standards). Just use him as much as you can :)

I want no part of Williams either. Remember his team has also scored 64 more goals than us. He would be nothing on this team but another slow moving old guy. Rather give time to young guys like Kempe etc. Kempe may not be scoring a lot right now but his speed is sure opening up the ice for us. Done with bringing in older vets as plugs. If that's all we are doing and not concerned with being true contenders for a year or so than let the kids play and learn. They may be the spark this team needs

I'd much, much prefer Iggy over Williams. They'd probably be looking for a similar deal (term/money [short term]). Sign Iggy all day if we can manage it and he wants another cup of coffee in LA.

I wouldn't mind a bit more thuggery on D, just a third pairing guy that can handle the scrappier games and provide a bit of intimidation. Perhaps pick up a guy like Mcilrath and mould him into a dman that isn't a complete liability.

I would like Oshie but not on the contract he's likely to demand. 5-6 years at $5-6 million. I'd pass on that.

That's what Toffoli and Pearson will demand, but maybe closer to the 5 million range. I think Oshi is more dominant than Pearson and Toffoli.

I love Oshie and he'd be a great fit on the Kings. But he's eyeing more than 6M (from an interview I heard in the last couple weeks) they mentioned a few recent signings, Okposo got an LTC at 6M per coming off a 22 goal season, Backus new deal in Boston Is 5 M per and he hasn't hit 30 in 7 years. They theorized he'll be asking in the 7M neighborhood and given his career points average s pretty good, .70. And there might be GM willing to overpay but I'd say he'll end up 6.5.
He's a good player, goal scored and don't underestimate his agent using all those shootout goals and the W's they bring to add extra kaching to his price.
If the Caps can' sign him, there will be teams who would be interested.
But given TT and TP, I don't see how he'd fit or how they fit DD with another high LTC on the books.
But I 'd love to see him in the Kings' top 6.

I agree.

The NHL game has become too systemic. Which is boring. Scoring chances are what make's the game exciting. The less systemic the game is, the more scoring chances you will see as a result of team/defensive breakdowns.

In the next CBA they should put more limits on how much teams can practice. Get the coaches away from the players. The games will become more wild and scoring chances will increase.

Yeah, I figured a lot closer to $6 million or more after I posted. Kings could certainly do it if they wanted to. Would take a combination of a lot of things (Lewis taken by Vegas, Greene LTIR or retire, cap increase, etc) but it'll probably be another toxic contract in 2-3 years.

Well that's the risk , right? He'll be 31 next year and what happens 3 yrs from now if he's got 4 left and his game has dropped off.
Unless a GM pays him more $$ for less term, up the stakes bit. But most players want that 7 or 8 yrs. Next yr the Kings have 5 players in their 30's on LTC's, that's already too many

Have a quick question. If you could describe Sutter's offensive system, how would you? There is a poster on the Rangers section that is very adamant that your system is to dump the puck into the corner, retrieve it, and set up shop from there. His analysis is that this puts you guys in a position to constantly be facing 5-man units of defense against you, because you give the opposition time to set up, and that's why you've had some goal-scoring issues this year.

I don't watch enough of your games to have a full grasp if this is correct or not.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, but I didn't think it worthy enough to start a whole new thread on this.

Thanks.
