Seems like Dean Lombardi didn't think things through for the long run. For the short term they got all they could ask for, but man are the Kings going to be paying dearly for it for the foreseeable future.

Was it worth it? Yes. Would he make those moves again? No doubt! But would he do things differently? He should have after 2014.

That was his opportunity to free himself of Richards with no consequence, but he hung on too long. Just as he did the same with Greene. And Gaborik. May have been wiser to give him more money but on a much shorter term (say three years max).

It's been a series of poor decisions and misfortunate events since that time period. But we're here for the long haul and it's going to be interesting to see what transpires from here on forward.

If we're unhappy and unsatisfied, imagine how Dean and the rest of his staff feels. You guys remember Dean's response to Bob when he stated that the Kings had a successful season? He was having none of that and cut through the B.S. and flat out said that the way they played towards the end and in the playoffs was unacceptable and it didn't sit well with him.

Now imagine what he thinks and how he feels about this poop stain of a season.

All the captain needs is for Dean to get him a first line winger and all will be good again.

Last 10 games, 3-5-2, just 8 of 20 possible points. 2-4 at home, with 1 SO win. 1-1-2 on the road. Just can't be 2-4 at home if the plan is to do anything.

Pearson, 6-5-11, +2
Kopitar, 2-4-6, -9
Carter, 1-4-5, -4
Toffoli, 3-1-4, -5
Lewis, 2-2-4, +2
Martinez, 1-3-4, -4
Muzzin, 1-3-4, -5
Doughty, 0-4-4, -6
Brown, 2-1-3, 0
Gaborik, 1-1-2, -5

Quick, .919
Budaj, .911
Bishop, .882

There's a few EN goals for and against in there. Carter's only goal was into an empty net. He's been the MVP this year, but they need more from him in what is now crunch time. All the Cup winners need to figure out how to step up again.

Our best players are Dustin Brown, Tanner Pearson and Trevor Lewis.

These guys are done. Check to see how many of them have flight reservations for April 10.

Quality leadership right there.

Doughty and Muzzin dragging the team down as well. Has Forbort been the only + dman in the last 10? He's only been a minus in one game over the last 10.

He is the only + at +1, Gravel is even and McNabb -1. Those are the best. The three games before those 10 Forbort was a -6, so he's turned it around a bit.

Yeah I'm sure those garage meetings over a beer have taken a darker tone. The guy is his own worst critic for sure, can only imagine what sorts of things they've talked about to make things 'work' and it's gotta kill him to sort of have to just sit on his hands.

I can't imagine how he feels right now. This team has a strong defense, top 5 in goals allowed, along with being the top possession team in the league, as well as having two solid #1 goaltenders, yet we're still losing. Not only has everything that could go wrong with this season has happened, but this team's performance flies directly opposite of the core values Dean believes in.

I can't imagine the feeling of "I've done everything I could do for the past two years, and it's still all going wrong."

We all know management wants the best for the team, for them to win. I wish Dean would realize that the problem is Sutter, its pretty obvious that the team has tuned him out. I think he's so attached to those winning glory days that he can't just let him go. Dean tends to get emotionally attached to certain individuals, which can be a double edged sword.

I honestly think that Lombardi doesn't want to be the guy to relieve Sutter of his duties.

Would work into the rumor of DL moving on/up in the off-season. Blake can drop the hammer, although the hammer will actually be Sutter being allowed to "retire".

Pretty good read on Tanner Pearson and the Insider

https://lakingsinsider.com/2017/03/08/pearson-fine-season-course-begs-tough-question/

Among some things that stuck out

Shooting % is 15.2

At even strength, Pearson has scored 1.33 goals per 60 minutes of ice time, which leads the team and ranks ninth in the league amongst qualified players. While many goals of his conjure up an image of skating down the rush and beating the goalie with an accurately placed wristshot – four of his five career regular season and playoff overtime goals have followed such a script – you don’t post a 13.6% career shooting percentage without rubbing on a little elbow grease and fighting for positioning below the hash marks.

Toffoli has 80 career goals in 276 games (.28)

Pearson has 52 in 209 games (.24)

and how he worked in the offseason, to improve his shooting

Yeah, I think at the end of the year I got a piece of paper with where my shots came from and where the goals came from so that gives you a good idea. And if I wanted to know where most of my shots were and most of my goals were, I’m pretty sure it’s pretty easy for those guys to pull that pretty quickly. I think it’s definitely one of those things you for sure can look into and it also depends on other goalie’s weaknesses and that kind of stuff, too.â€

I love Pearson's game and he's only going to get better. He's the type of player every team needs and thrives on.

With how mad he was he had to fire Terry Murray, I wouldn't be shocked.

BK, you've seen a rumor of DL moving this summer? From anyone credible?

I agree that Sutter may need to go, but where I diverge with the majority of the board is when it extends to Dean.

He's a damn stud. Quite frankly, I'm shocked at his jump in skill this season from last. He flashed a few times last season, but was largely lost prior to that.

So damn refreshing watching him play, Ziggy.

Just Hoven's tidbit about Blake taking over.

Normally wouldn't put much stock in to it but Lombardi has been a train wreck since 2014. AEG can't be happy about the highest payroll in the league potentially missing the playoffs.

They will see that season ticket base dissipate as well. Received a notification that they dropped prices for tonight's game...still cost $72 after fees to sit in Row 2 of Section 306.

I sold five of mine in Row 4 of the same section on StubHub for $16.50 a piece. After Saturday's game, the next three games feature entry prices of $14/$12/$13 as of this morning. Last season, which was a step down from the year prior, I didn't sell a ticket for less than $45 before fees at this point of the season regardless how garbage the visiting team was.

This is still a business. Business is going to start to suffer with continued BS like the last three seasons. Would not be surprised if Lombardi is done.

11-12 years is a pretty long time. I also believe that Sutter will have coached more games for the Kings--when playoff games are included--than he has for any of his previous stops once this season is concluded.

He has an expiration date as well.

Reactions: King Trouty
In former King news...Valentine Zykov scores a nice goal for the Canes, going to the net tonight against the Rangers...think this is his first NHL game, too. I know he was not all we had hoped, but wish him success and wish we had players go to the net like this.

Sorry to hear that about your tickets, brother. That's a huge bummer, for sure.

A little tidbit from Elliote Friedman's latest "30 Thoughts" segment on Sportsnet.

9. Pittsburgh took a long look at Jannik Hansen before he was traded to San Jose. That’s the second straight season the Penguins took a run at a Vancouver player, only to have it fall through. (Last year, it was Dan Hamhuis.) Los Angeles pursued Hansen as well, but it sounds like the Kings needed Vancouver to retain a little more salary and weren’t as willing to upgrade the draft pick conditions. If the Sharks win the Stanley Cup, the fourth-rounder for Hansen becomes a first.
