Gropp better be a ****ing NHLer. I'm not going to love watching Bracco set up Matthews and Marner and Nylander for the next decade knowing what could've been.

Knowing he's a NY kid as well (Freeport), he would have been on our radar. His brothers own a bar on the Nautical Mile in Freeport and when I was there, so many people were happy he was drafted, but sad it wasn't by the Rangers.

He was. We interviewed him. I don't know what happened. NYR wanted Gropp, they made the Hagelin trade with trading up for Gropp in mind.

Then, at 57, I think the Rangers thought they could trade down, add a pick, and still grab Bracco at 62 (at least that's what I'm telling myself). But, as we all know, he went 61st.

What can ya do.

LOL at penciling Bracco into the Leafs top 6.

Great performance last night but come on, his entire body of work in these bigger games (MC, OHL playoffs, WJC) was mediocre at best.

LOL at assuming I meant next season

LOL at his entire body of work being "mediocre at best"

LOL at you meaning it ever.

LOL at you thinking he was excellent in those games overall. He was fantastic last night, no doubt, but collectively in those games anyone with out some weird fetish for the kid will tell you that he was mediocre.

Did I say he was excellent? He was good, and I think he'll be a good NHLer.

His playmaking ability is unreal. The amount of shot assists he puts up is absurd. When he's playing with players who can actually finish his passes, he's going to put up absurd assist numbers just by the sheer quantity of high-quality passes he makes. Even if he's a 3rd liner, PP2 guy.

He'll have more career assists than Gropp has NHL games played. Hold me to it.

The Windsor GM literally said they acquired him because of his play in big games lol. Not to mention hes won U17, U18, U20, and now the Mem cup while being key parts of each team.

GMs say all sorts of ****. Some of it smart and factual, some of it dumb and wrong. No GM is going to call out every flaw a player they just acquired had.

He was mediocre (and im putting it kindly) at the world juniors and honestly, wasn't really great in the memorial cup overall until yesterday. His u17 and 18 teams were STACKED and he was hardly the driving force on those squads.

Small players with inconsistent motors typically don't fare well at the higher levels. It was great to see him play engaged in a championship game, but lets not act like thats the norm for him.

Now's my favorite part of the season when all the prospects start posting shirtless off season pictures on Instagram. All of our players are done now right? Nothing until the Traverse city tournament in Sept.

There is development camp in a few weeks, IIRC. And then Traverse in September.

Also, lol waking up and seeing this talk of Bracco.

Kid is good. We should pump the brakes a but, like with most prospects, but the kid is good. To say he was mediocre in the Men Cup until last night means you weren't paying attention.

If Greenway finished even half of the grade-A opportunities Bracco fed him in the WJC he'd have finished with 7 assists instead of 2.

He needs top-flight finishers to take advantage of the silver platters he feeds them. Most NHL players are better finishers than Greenway and Graham Knott.

There was a pass yesterday in the first period. Bracco got it through like three sticks and it hit Knott on the tape right in front of the net for a slam-dunk put in. Instead, it bounced off of Knott's stick and went into the corner because there was no way Knott was expecting that pass to get to him.

Shot assists, my man. Shot assists and high xG set ups.

Also, lol waking up and seeing this talk of Bracco.

I take full responsibility. I'll never let it die. But it is relevant last night. Because instead of watching NYR prospect Jeremy Bracco in the Memorial Cup, we got to watch.... well... you know. He who shall not be named :| :P

If they are going that route, I rather see them disallow all goals going in off a skate.

the league would NEVER do something that reduces the number of goals in the box score as they cater to people that just look at the final score and say it was boring. they might consider counting a goal off the skate as 2 to say scoring went up lol

Ironically, a player like Bracco and Gropp on a line together would probably look really good together.

Watched every game. You think he was good in those middle 2 of the 4 they played?

Was very under whelming in both IMO, and a couple of garbage time points against Seattle (one of which was an Ottawa senators pin ball style assist) doesn't really change that.

I watched the first three games in full (was able to catch a bit of last night's game while at work) and I didn't think he was underwhelming.

Pitt is lucky Johansen got hurt. Would have picked Nashville if he wasn't. Pit, they have a lot of small forwards. Same with Toronto. Guys like Bracco are not big guys. When you play a lot of playoff games for enough years, those guys wear down. Pitt looked tired vs Ottawa most of that series. Size still matters in this league.

It's matter of getting size players with skill. Gropp has that. He'll only get stronger once he gets to a pro team with pro trainers. He also has a huge wrist shot with great speed. Gropp fits this system perfectly. So does Vesey. You'll see him make the jump by 24-25. Hayes I'm not sure about. His faceoffs in the playoffs were reason for hope.

Edit: Finished reading it. Really nice article and gives a good insight into post-trade Day. Definitely seems like he's in a better place mentally and the trade to Windsor reeeeeeeeeally helped out.

Awesome to read all that. It sounds like he's on a much better path career-wise and in a much better place mentally now, and that he's been able to shift his focus back to hockey. Really pulling for him to make it.

So is Graves ready or not? There were people saying he would push for a spot back in September before the season got going.

The article is 100% spot on the situation.

Day looked like Windsor's second best defenseman barely behind Sergachev (I say "barely" w/o seeing how Day's play effectiveness would change, or not, if he had to play twice the minutes per game compared his actual minutes playing behind Sergachev). The impact Rocky Thomson has had on Day's development is why I would not mind if Day stayed in this Windsor system for another year as an overager with a significant increase in his icetime as their #1 defenseman.

Edit: I don't follow other team's prospects but I want to learn more about Chattfield (sp?) - Vancouver's free agent pick up - who's been Sergachev's main partner as Windsor overager this year. What's his story?

I think some people who were saying that he wasn't ready back then now are thinking he could be ready as a mid year call up in the upcoming season if not sooner.

it will be interesting.
I suspect the default expectation right now is
Bereglazov is ahead of Graves on the left,
Paliotta ahead of Pionk on the right,
but AV has said the plan for next year is to roll young D into the rotation

Bereglazov plays the right side.
