I was more in favor of giving guys like Mersch and Auger a chance as opposed to signing more dead weight guys.

I guess they're realizing that now with LaDue being brought up and how Gravel came up as well. Better to let them get their feet wet and learn at this level than to waste cap space and roster spots on what Dean Lombardi would classify as "mercenaries."

thats fair, but Mersch & Co did have a chance to beat out these mercenaries in camp and they couldnt do it. I dont think anyone should be gifted a roster spot. if the Kings youth cant beat out Purcell/Seto/etc for a spot, I dont want them on the big team. let em take their time in the AHL

I didn't have high expectations, but you do have to question what Lombardi is doing when none of those signings even resemble NHL players.

It's the very definition of dumpster diving.

You really don't because it's not that hard to see. He's waiting on the youth and not going for broke this year. All the signings the last summer were about was filling out the roster with "NHL" players. That's it. At a bare minimum you have a player so you don't end up like Colorado/Arizona. They are just there to hold the spot until something better is found.

I don't know if they didn't earn those spots or if the Kings just preferred to keep them in the minors longer.

Mersch and Auger actually looked good in preseason competition and outscored or kept pace with Purcell and Setoguchi in preseason scoring.

I understand keeping guys like Amadio and Brodzinski down longer, but the aforementioned two have proven themselves in the AHL and they could serve a long term purpose, unlike Dean's failed short term signings.

To be fair Mersch got a call up last season and struggled in the transition game. I'm a fan of pretty much anyone over 230 unless they're Charmin Ultra Soft like Thornton. Mersch just isn't quite there.

I hope Auger can make it too, but that big boy needs all the time he can get in the AHL before trying to make the jump.

If 4-4 is the plan, Kings should retain McNabb as expansion bait. If it's Dowd vs McNabb, we want to lose from a position of strength.

Best ****ing news of the day!!!! Zatkoff probably out tonight!!!!

Should we start a pool on how long it takes Sutter to play LaDue? Can't imagine they'd call him up to sit.

Nothing to see here. 23 man roster if Toffoli is back & Greene on IR, after Gilbert waived.

Edit: NVM counted Gilbert on the 23 man roster because CapFreindly hasn't moved him yet. That leaves the team 1 short with Toffoli coming back!!!!

lol... it'd be funny if instead of a call up, LaDue was traded. Epic level Troll by Lombardi.

Kings won't go on that road trip with just 6 D. Something will have to give.

Freaking Sutter should've played Budaj last week against the Rangers in the back to back too.
The Kings dominated large parts of that game and mistakes by JZ cost us the 2 pts.

Last b2b, Kings were in a road trip and played 4 in 6.... This time Kings had all star break followed by the back to back then another 2 day break...

This with Gilbert going down, this officially means that all of Dean's offseason moves have relatively failed:

Zakoff sucks
Trotman is in the AHL and injured
Purcell waived with like 2 points and no presence
Latta was traded
Gilbert, while more than serviceable for a time, was surpassed by Gravel.

0 for 5 Deano

Jewels from the Crown linked a cap friendly tweet that says that the Kings might have up to 8.48mil in deadline space if Gilbert makes it through waivers. I still don't want Dean to be a buyer though. Please don't give up our first Dean!!!

My big worry for LaDue would just be mentorship. Muzzin, Forbort, and Mcnabb didn't stabilize until they had extended time with Doughty; Voynov had Mitchell; Gravel had Greene. Everyone had a vet guy like Regehr or Greene all to lean on. Who does LaDue get, Gravel or McNabb? Muzzin? Forbort? Not sure any of those are good options.

With Gravel/Greene, you could at least be sure that if there were a fire drill in our end, Greene was going to pick a guy to annihilate.

Depends on what you thought they were going to do, I suppose.

There are reports that Vegas will be amenable to asset deals in exchange for not picking certain players. Maybe we can ship off Brown after all!!

At the very least we can have them avoid picking up Dowd.

I didn't expect much, and I liked he went low risk. I was more just saying, it's kind of funny.

There may be something big brewing for all we know. DL will most certainly not be giving up on the season. Are there any scary teams in the west this year? Some moves he might be thinking about:

Another goalie - I can't believe he hasn't a least found another Sean Burke type by now. Any Zat start is a guaranteed loss.

3rd line center - Love Dowd's potential but he isn't good enough defensively for a legit contender.

RHD (vet) - Martinez is being diminished on his off side he really needs to be on the left side with a shutdown right hander.

I doubt he chases after any wingers.

In my view he shouldn't be shy about emptying the cupboard of picks, its way too late to worry about them now. Anything he gets in the next few years won't be contributing till after a rebuild anyway. Might as well move the rest of his stack "all in".

per Rosen, he thinks LaDue will get a call up out of this Gilbert reassignment. Im high on LaDue but still shocked

Also, during last night's game, the ticker on the bottom of the screen mentioned Greene being assigned to IR. So if Gilbert goes down, don't we need to call up not one D man but two?

Trade brewing!!!

I'm with you here. This is our Cup window. When Carter stops scoring goals, the window is CLOSED. Therefore, IMHO, all picks from 2017-2020 should be considered expendable. Heck, I'd even consider 18ish-year-old D prospects as expendable (Moverare, Clague, et al.).

Vegas is scared that all those great assets coming their way will be siphoned off before the draft by teams like Arizona. The yotes really only have 3 players to protect. If I were them I'd be handing out draft picks like Easter candy to pick up players like Vatanen, Methot etc. before they get lost to Vegas for nothing.

LaDue could be coming up to show other teams how he does in the NHL. Sending Gilbet down may be to make room for Tofolli. I don't know the roster count so feel free to call me names.

Also I'm sick and didn't read this thread so TT likely still out

Maybe they want to see how good LaDue is, give him a month and play him in case they are moving out AMart for a forward. Didn't they do something similar before Jack Johnson was traded? IS that when Slava first came up?

The funny thing is, DL will sort of be justified going all in this year for a Stanley Cup run. The West looks really weak this year. I am not discounting the Blackhawks, but they do not have the depth they once had, the Blues are having a down year, the Ducks don't look as defensively sound as in the past, Minnesota is hot, but not much playoff experience, and every other team is vanilla. The only team that is deep and could go far in the playoffs IMO is San Jose.
