LaDue could be coming up to show other teams how he does in the NHL. Sending Gilbet down may be to make room for Tofolli. I don't know the roster count so feel free to call me names.

Also I'm sick and didn't read this thread so TT likely still out

It would not surprise me if DL wanted to go after Shattenkirk. I could easily see LaDue + ? going the other way.

Why would he do that? You think DL will trade a cost controlled high level prospect like LaDue, for half a season of Shattenkirk? Also, Shattenkirk will command $7MM plus. How would we resign him, and Toffoli and Pearson? Makes no sense.

Shattenkirk would be the ultimate "I'm trying to save my job" red flag. "We're all in, **** everyone".

Edit: actually a couple of Blues fans have mentioned that Armstrong has given people a chance to talk to Shatty's agent prior to a trade. But all indications are he wants to be in the NY area, so...

He would do it because he wants to win a cup -- this year. He isn't worried about next year. How did we re-sign Sekera, Lucic?

It's one thing to trade a pick for a rental like the Sekera deal, or a pick, a goalie you can't resign, and a prospect that would not crack the lineup for Lucic. It's another to trade your best defensive prospect for half a season of Shattenkirk.

I'm not arguing for it, I just said I could see DL doing it. More likely the Blues would need a solid D man coming back the other way since they are still in the playoff hunt.

doesnt make sense from any angle. we have a surplus of defensemen and desperately need scoring. factoring in Shattenkirk is a UFA and will likely net the Blues a nice package, I just dont see it happening. I HOPE it doesnt happen

Maybe they want to see how good LaDue is, give him a month and play him in case they are moving out AMart for a forward. Didn't they do something similar before Jack Johnson was traded? IS that when Slava first came up?

If memory serves me right, Doughty was hurt to start that year which is why Slava started season in LA and then when Doughty came back they sent him down. He obviously made a great impression which allowed them to move JMFJ for Carter.

It's not the same type of situation, but this could be a possibility to see if he can handle the NHL and make a move to trade a defensemen for a forward

Forbort-Doughty
Muzzin-Ladue
Gravel-Martinez
McNabb

That's a solid D lineup considering how scared we all were before the season started. Forbort and Gravel with some solid play...

Except he doesn't need nor can't afford that. He's been shopping for a top 6 forward. I think LaDue is a big part of their future, a Slava replacement, high end speedy , skilled puck moving d. If he's moving out in a trade, it would be part of a package for a top forward like Duchene. And as much as that would be a pretty picture, Duchene centering Carter on the 2nd line, the Kings can't afford him.

Gilbert wasn't playing anyways, so meh. If LaDue sticks, it's likely we will lose a forward in the expansion draft, cause McNabb might be gone. It's unlikely Brayden gets back to last season's level of play this year, so why not get an asset for him. He's going to have value, especially to teams who covet possession players. Then again, if someone went down...

I have said this before and will say it again. We need rookies or prospects on their entry level contracts. Like it or not, we are stuck with Gaborik and Brown, so moving one or both of these contracts to open up cap space is off the table. So what we need to do is move another big contract of a player with high value for a prospect with high upside. For example, if we moved one of Muzzin or Martinez, I wouldn't do it for Landeskog, but instead for a player like Nylander for example. That opens up about 3-4MM in cap space. Also, I would not move LaDue. We will need his low cost, and high upside, next season. Similarly, King should not be resigned, and instead, we should use Mersch or Kempe next season to fill his role.

I felt the same way, but it appears that we will have no choice but to keep McNabb this year because you need to expose a defenseman with 40 games played at the expansion draft. If we trade McNabb, then we will have to expose Forbort, Muzzin, Martinez or Doughty, which is off the table.

If LA trades for a a significant forward, do they then have to go 7 3 1 in expansion protection? Especially if Muzz or Amart go the other way?

Yup. If Muzzin or Martinez go back the other way, we just have to protect the following defensemen: Doughty, Forbort, Muzzin or Martinez. LaDue and Gravel are waiver exempt. We will have to expose McNabb anyways because Greene is injured for what appears to be the entire season, and Gilbert was just waived and likely wont get enough games in for the draft.

The seven forwards will be: Carter, Kopitar, Pearson, Toffoli, [new guy], Lewis, Dowd.

or sit pat and protect Muzz, Amart, Forbort, Doughty.

McNabb and Dowd exposed.

I still say roll with those two as likely targets for LV.

I think they take Dowd over McNabb just because of lack of forward talent available.

Any trade for a forward will likely cost two defensemen in the long run.

I just think it's funny that the perception is Landeskog and Duchene are available--and just about every rumor is "x is interested in Duchene" where x = 29 NHL teams while we're the only ones linked to Landeskog

LV will be looking at Brown, Lewis, and Clifford as well in my opinion. (Not just Dowd/McNabb)

There's a lot of quality D out there for Vegas to take so maybe they go after a leadership type of player.

Kings need to go 7-3 anyways so they can protect Lewis & Gaborik.

Not sure if I'm trolling or serious or trolling because I'm serious.

I can 100% see Lombardi making a trade so he can protect Lewis.

Impact forward Kopitar Gaborik
Pearson Carter Toffoli
Brown Dowd Lewis
Clifford Shore Nolan
AA

Doughty Forbort
Amart LaDue
Gravel ???
???

Good up front, scary in the back.

If McNabb gets taken in expansion

No one takes Brown.
Clifford is a fourth line plug.
Lewis is overpaid but has term.

I'd count my blessings if they took Lewis.
