We can't help but get excited when a young prospect gets his first call up.

But yeah, IF he plays, it won't be much I expect. That said, this would be the ideal game to work in a young player; at home against the worst team in the NHL.

A cardboard cutout would have less turnovers than Brayden McNabb last night, so I'd say LaDue might be able to perform a little bit better than a cardboard cutout.

We can put a cardboard cutout out there? Why has no one done this? No penalties, no give always.

Kings need to go 7-3 anyways so they can protect Lewis & Gaborik.

Not sure if I'm trolling or serious or trolling because I'm serious.

I can 100% see Lombardi making a trade so he can protect Lewis.

Why the hell would they leave Forbort exposed and protect Gaborik and Lewis? Sadly I think your right, but Lombardi should be fired if he does that

The ability to trade a pick so Vegas doesn't choose someone means the kings can trade a D and not worry about losing another D in a 7-3-1. It's more about protecting the defense than the 7 forwards.

7
kopi, carter, toffoli, pearson, new guy from trade, dowd, lewis

3 +1 more
Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, forbort

Gravel is not draft eligible. Pencil in Ladue next year. Green may retire or be bought out.

If Greene retires, fine, but buying him out isn't worth it. If he's hurt, they can't anyway, but he's got 1 year left. Buying him out keeps some dead cap space on the roster for the next 2 years, with almost an extra million for the 18-19 season. If they keep him, and just LTIR him all of next year, I think that's the better option. They can go 10% over the cap in the summer if need be, so Greene's contract really doesn't hurt in any situation.

Not really sold on Landeskog. He can skate, shoot, make a pass, but I don't see anything really game breaking out there. Which is fine. Kopitar will make him look better. Just don't see giving up the package the Avs would want to move him. Especially not at $5.5 AAV.

My worry about Landeskog is that he is not game breaker. The more I think about him the more I think his numbers will plummet a little more in LA.

I like him, and he fits the team style, but they need more offensive finish, not just more of the same.

I'd rather have Duchene honestly.

They need another Carter like player. I mean, Gaborik is basically supposed to be that but ehhh..

Forbort has 2 goals 12 assists and a plus 16 in the last 40 games. Not bad. I don't think he is going anywhere.

Completely agree. Duchene is more skilled out of the two, and he's the type of player we need.

Would love to see Duchene centering the 2nd line with Carter riding shotgun, he has the speed and skill for a tailgunner like JC.

However, per Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts column today, the CAP will be flat for next year. And even if the King's ransom that the Avs are asking for Duchene wasn't so high, they couldn't afford him anyway, given the contracts they have to sign. It will be very interesting summer and who does or doesn't get moved because of no CAP increase

Oh I don't think we will land him given the reasons, I just think he would be the better fit out of the two.

The no CAP increase is bad news. We would need to dump some players, but the question is who would take them?

So. Jonathan Quick is taking part in this optional practice. He has faced some shots and is stretching between rotations in net.

This is huge! Maybe he will be ready for game action starting in March. A month of practice should be enough probably, assuming he doesn't re-injure himself.

Depending on his progress in Feb., DL may decide to go all in at the deadline.

Vegas? I am wondering if the Flat Cap will cause some GM's to overpay with high draft picks for this and future years for a player dump. I guess we'll find out. Or teams that have money like Carolina who has 41M committed for year year, even with the contracts that they have to sign, they should have about 10-15 available. And I'll bet there will be GM's eyeing that up. Carolina won't mind adding some more top draft picks to their already pretty deep farm system.

In terms of a number 1 goalie, Budaj has produced the same results a Quick would have.

But in terms of goalie depth for a playoff push, a Quick/Budaj tandum would be huge.
If Zatkoff is a 5 and 4 instead of 2-7, Kings are right there with Ducks, Sharks and Oilers fighting it out for top spot.

This month is going to tell a lot. Only 4 games against teams with a better ppg% than the Kings - Washington, Anaheim (2), and Minn. The other 8 games are against teams lower (7) or tied (1, Philly). With key players starting to play well, the team could easily go on a run.

DL is the type that will go for it if he feels the team is playing well, expansion draft be damned.
