Why should a player be sent home because the management is incompetent? Nylander is the best player of the tournament (they can talk about some PPG player in the Swiss League how much they want, it's obvious Nylander is more skilled). Nylander shouldn't be punished because the Swedish office don't have a clue what they're doing.

Sweden has legit gold chances with Nylander in the lineup and adequate chances without him.

The impression I got from the timing as well as some of their answers ("Is the cancellation of the press conference because of William himself?" "(pause) This is a decision [the management] has taken") is that they probably thought it might calm the media circus a bit to get the lad out there, but that he perhaps felt uncomfortable at the last minute and they took the blame, as it were. Pure speculation, of course, but if that is the case the mistake was in deciding to throw Nylander in front of the wolves in the first place.

Willie is incredibly comfortable with media, and used to the attention. I highly doubt that he suddenly couldn't handle a PC.

Yeah I don't think it had anything to do with Willy not wanting to do it. I think they realized it was a pointless idea to have him talk to the media. Makes no sense why someone would talk to the press about an injury. Just let him get ready and hopefully come back.

I'm all for resting Nylander but I would like the rest of the team really try to win this game and get a good feeling for the elimination round. A 5 - 0 loss or something similar doesn't sit right with me regardless of the standings.

Not just a press conference though, is it? It's a press conference where he really couldn't say anything to a whole bunch of eager idiots and semi-idiots hanging on his every word. I'd say it's fair enough to be a bit uncomfortable at the prospect of that as a 19-year-old, especially if you just got hit hard enough to get concussed a few days prior.

Still, as I said, it's pure speculation on my part. The alternative I suppose is that the management really did decide to call to a press conference with Nylander there and at the last minute - literally - decided to withdraw him and stand there looking stupid. They really did seem flummoxed to me. "These things happen" was what the guy literally said when asked why Nylander wasn't coming. Really? These things happen?

Pretty pointless to discuss when we'll never know for sure, but the impression when watching the thing live was that something was off. They did not seem prepared for it.

Adrian Kempe always plays well when I view him. I had him as a sleeper pick prior to the draft in the summer of 2014. He is a terrific typical Swedish player. Smart, efficient, and skilled.

I think the gold medal is between USA, Russia, and Team Sweden.

Very impressed by your team. I don't think you guys even need William Nylander to win it all. This is a good side as it is. And it will be better when Ek is back.

Lou is about 100 times as influential as the Swedish management combined :)

I'm not sure if I would label Kempe a typical Swedish player, his speed, size(somewhat) & shot combo is not too common for our wingers. In a way, he's Loui Eriksson with some more bite though.

I didn't get to see their earlier games, but ,as a Bruins fan, I'm keeping an eye out for JFK. He looked solid today. Thoughts on him throughout the tournament so far?

He's good, good hockey IQ and doing the right things, i like him!
But on the PP he seems a bit off, don't like him in Nylanders position and he's only there because he's righthanden.

Want to give Karlsson some credit, didn't want him on the team but he has been good.

Yep. He has had a very solid tournament.

The 4th line and the 1st line made the Canadian D look very much like junior players vs pros in physical battles... not often you see forwards constantly out-muscling Dmen and being able to go where they wanted on the ice.

There was one shift in particular with Hicketts & Chabot vs the first line... and both D took turns at trying to move each of Kempe, Holmstrom & Lindblom from near the net and slot... and seemingly just gave up after one or two crosschecks the guys ignored. And it was at 5v5...

From what I saw, he seems like a guy to play a shutdown role. On the PP I'd like to see him play net-front/bumper position. The kid seems to have good body positioning and a very active stick.

Defense is looking surprisingly solid.

Even Lagesson looked good today. Minus a few times were he tried a little to much. I could almost not believe it. Maybe playing northamerican teams that doesn't use the entire ice just hides his flaws very well?

I'm sure Lou said no, due to these reasons.

Go ahead and speculate, but Lou will never let you know.
