WJC: 2016 — Sweden Roster Talk

Sacrificed? Is he made of glass? If hes fine and wants to play he should be able to.

What even is this?

He was doing fine in a tier 3 league? He should playing in this tournament if he was healthy.He should be playing in the WJC but is not because he recieved a dirty hit. As simple as that.

The poster said Nylander should play and even if he gets hurt the hockey world isn't losing a Gretzky/Lemieux type talent.

This is very likely a concussion we're talking about. It has nothing to do with being made of glass...it has no set timetable at all. He could be feeling okay right now but it is better to hold off and have him well rested and symptom free for a long period of time before he plays hockey again.

I don't want Jeff Skinner type concussions to haunt his career. Sweden is good enough to win gold without him if they play well.

His career and the amount of $$$ he earns is through the NHL so even if he is sentimental and wants to try and comeback to play for Sweden, the Leafs shouldn't let him.

Toronto couldn't just not send him..
 
I don't mean to downplay his importance to Team Sweden, but you guys have played great without William Nylander since he has been out. To me getting Larsson back is the key to how far Sweden goes. Any news on him? For me Sweden is hitting on all cylinders right now. There is no need to rush William back, and if they do it might upset the chemistry they have right now. I am curious of what the Swedish fans think?

Even so, you don't say "oh no thanks we don't want this amazing player on our team". If he's healthy he's gonna play.

While I can agree about that I do not want him to take any big risk, his long term career is more importent. But this is as I said before what is wrong with hockey. NHL has to much to say when it comes to the national team.

Either way, no one here knows anything really, if he is fine he is fine and then he should play, if he is not fine he should not play. Hopefully the doctors are good enough to make that call, we are probably not. If it was a confirmed concussion he would probably already have left the team.

would have the exact same goalies and d-men at this point, do not know about the forwards. Why Asplund on the wing when he has been our best center in this tournament? I also thinks Lias Andersson should make it at this point

Lol yeah they're not going to add the best player in the tournament to their roster because they risk upsetting chemistry. Even though the line he would play on is with his brother and Timashov, both of which he's played with many times.

Auston Matthews, Patrick Laine and Jesse Puljujarvi are already on rosters for US and Finland, respectively.

It's not a stretch at all to say Nylander would have been the best player in the tournament. Pulj, Laine, Matthews, are all excellent prospects, but you can definitely make the case that a player who put up 10 points last year in the WJC would be the best player this year, especially after the season he's having. He's also two years older than Laine and Puljujarvi, and 1.5 years older than Matthews. Best player doesn't mean best future/career.

Also, Pastrnak is actually the player who is probably the best in the tournament, if you want to go based on NHL success. But I don't think anyone sees the Czech's as a threat to win.

Right now, William Nylander is better than all three of them. Age is important at the world juniors.

I did forget about Pastrnak though, but I think we can all agree that William is at least one of the best players in the tournament.

He's healthy and could play tonight. He was on ice this morning.

Prepare for the bronze medal game if you make it pass Canada ;)

I think so too, this is getting a bit ridiculous. I'm sure the leafs would have pulled him out of the tournament if William was in a "he will maybe skate tomorrow"-situation after a suspected concussion. Maybe he's just with the team as a mascot right now.

Grundström & Eriksson Ek have been perfectly fine so far but today I want to see them on the scoresheet.
