I wonder if Nekolenko makes the roster. If he does that's another guy of many here who can play a two-way game.

Following stpid hypes at it's finest I'd say. Who said Tretiak is not in a top 3? Trushkov has had the chance to prove it and failed.

The Tretiak hate is as irrational as any. The fact that the drop off beyond #2 is huge desn't change the other fact that no other goalie has proven he's head and shoulders above Tretiak. But people are just so obsessed with their Tretiak hate that they just would never admit it.

There are 2 good goaltending prospects this year in Russia.

Krasotkin is already head and shoulders above Tretiak.

Looks like Kamenev is confirmed to join the roster. Big breaks for Russia to get both he and Provorov for this tournament.

The big question for me is this: will the CHL guys mesh well with the Russia-based guys? The key to this team's success will be all about the chemistry, rather than anything on paper.

When is final roster updates? I have not seen anything on Allhockey recently. I worry about Dergachyov, he is still injured? If he hasn't played since early November this could be a issue. Obviously he is a force out there but not many guys come back and are top form in a week (or less) he's still listed as injured.

Spartak Moscow - Russia U20 1: 3 (0: 1, 1: 1, 0: 1)

Georgiev (Samsonov, 29.57).

final rosterwill be anounced on 23rd december after the finalf friendly game in Finland.

Bragin is keeping the CHLers together. Sergeev-Mikulovich, Boikov-Sharipzyanov and then Lazarev-Trenin-Svechnikov. A lot of pressure on Zborovsky and Fazleev to prove they belong here.

How does this team look boys? Is the defence any good? Any forwards who could be dangerous? Defense and goaltending are the usual suspects for Russia, as well as lack of team play and strategy. If they get these components going, they may fare very well since the skill factor is there.

Russia might have the best goaltending in the tournament. They have had great goaltending in World Juniors for years now. Not sure where the "usual suspects" thing is coming from.

Defense it appears will have these three primary pairings: Provorov with Zhuldikov, Sharipzyanov with Boikov and Sergeev with Mikulovich.

Personally I like it. Skill and grit. People might not be familiar with Zhuldikov, but he has emerged as a reliable, physical leader this year.

If I were identify a weakness with this team is would be a lack of explosive, elite-level scoring.

I'm probably thinking of the main Russian team at the moment, what with their pretty lackluster display today against the Czech Republic, where their defence really let them down, but it may look different at the junior level for Russia (and I really hope it does!). Many Russians are already speaking of a grand downfall of Russian hockey. I sure hope the Russian team can remain good at all levels. Many are quite unhappy with Mutko, who is in charge of all in sports in Russia, and blame him of corruption in all sports areas.

The grand downfall of Russian hockey already happened in the 1990s. It's been a mixed bag of highs and lows from there.

I think the level of junior talent has picked up considerably in the last 5-6 years. That has been slightly offset by the improved development in other European countries of NHL-caliber talent.

Yeah, the 1990s was generally a horrible time for Russia, they ruined the system back then and now they're trying to improve it again, though from the results, it's nowhere near the excellence of old Soviet hockey.

next few years will be hard for Russian hockey still, the demographics of 1998-2004 are very thin compared to 1985-1988 birth years.

Most of kids who started hockey in early 90's were still very much under soviet hockey school and it wasn't until about 98 that the system really collapsed. I know, I was one of them :) and my last year in 1997 was a joke compared to coaches we had in 1993.

In the beginning coaches would "kill us" with excercises. In 1997 we were unorganized mess playing scrimmage every practice and we had a dude come by to check on us, coaches went on without salaries for months...

FHR started resurrecting things only about 10 years ago, and ONLY NOW!! are they really looking at kids hockey. Until very recently it was up to clubs to take care of their pwn entirely, now their designing a system and accreditation to coaches and all that, but still in its infancy.

It's actually amazing the level Russia could maintain consider the level of destruction, corruption in 90's early 2000's
