Anyway...

I expect Canada to win tomorrow by 2. We will then rue not beating the Swiss in regulation because then we could be playing the Czechs instead of the Fins. I am hoping for a Czech win tomorrow but I'm not expecting it.

It's garbage all this Marner bashing!!!

Yes. He is hardly the only issue.

It's garbage all this Marner bashing. Just to keep things in perspective McDavid in his first World Juniors 2 years ago scored 1 goal and 3 assists for a total of 4 points in 7 games. Marner will far exceed that in his first WJC. In fact Marner will lead Canada in scoring by the end of the tournament. You can bank on that. Also Marner may be 18 years old but his body is like a 16 year old at best. So he's definitely at a disadvantage when playing against the best Juniors in the world. Of course he will physically mature and get much stronger. You can bank on this also and then everyone will be back on the Marner bandwagon when he's dominating in the NHL. I am so certain of this!!!

McDavid was 16.

Thank you.

I expect a one goal victory tomorrow, should be a tight game against the Swedes. Really hoping the Czechs win tomorrow as well, but they are in tough with the Finns. Either way though this is a fairly even tournament at the top and anyone can beat anyone.

Really want to see Blackwood catch fire and have a solid game heading into the elimination rounds, this game could be a good springboard for that.

My hope...

Fins were on fire today and due for a letdown. Based on how well they played, it is something to hang my hat on.

Agree. We really have been unlucky. Nothing has gone our way. If we could catch a little luck...

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Virtanen has been complete trash he did nothing yesterday...Yes the Strome line was doing things in the third but Virtanen wasn't apart of it he was constantly missing the net going offside by a mile turning the puck over and just generally floating and making bad plays in the offensive zone.

I'm starting to wonder if he's secretly trying to sabotage Canada for Finand hes been that bad every single game...Someone needs to strip the maple Leaf of his Jersey.

Sorry but jv had a fantastic third. Imo the best player on the ice in The 3rd.

Before that he has been poor for sure

Czech's have a very solid team. They played well against us in the pre-tourny, I honestly wouldn't be shocked at all if they won tomorrow, especially with Pastrnak back on the team.

shhh keep it down. Just follow the cool guys and blend in.

JV and Marner sucks. Am I rite:yo:

Hope you're right. I wish we had some control over our own destiny but...

He should be.... the coach is giving him every opportunity to succeed. Guy plays 65-70% of the PP and is on the ice a ton with Canada's other top players. How the hell isn't he Canada's top point getter. Seriously its not like he's getting Konecny minutes and saying watch he's going to lead the team in scoring. imo this is why he's failing Lowry has been giving him everything he wants. Make the kid earn his ice time earn the pp time. Kid has skill but he needs to play smarter. He's made some great plays but the bad turnovers out number those 2 to 1 thats why people are bashing him (its not because of his skill level).

That is the most important thing. If Blackwood looks as good as he has earlier in the year, Canada is significantly more dangerous. Now, Blackwood could have a shutout tomorrow only to see Lowry play McDonald (or Hicketts) as goaltender in the elimination games, but indications seem to be that Blackwood is getting a fair chance at taking the starting position.

Aren't you funny. :)

As I have said many times before, this team needs a reason to believe in itself. Momentum. A lucky break. If we get that, there is no reason Gold is not possible.

Before the tournament, MOST were pleased with the team. There was a reason for that.

Can't we let the Marner thing go? It is getting obsessive/silly. On any given night, there are 18 other players than can make a difference. We win or lose as a team.

 re Hicketts

Yeah I agree, Blackwood having a big game is absolutely the most important thing for us tomorrow. He's the type of goalie that can steal a game for us if needed.

I've said it before we have all the horses we need for Gold, we can beat any team in this tourney. Just need to get rolling.

I think this is being exaggerated... What constitutes a bad turnover? Can't say I've see a turnover from Marner that resulted in a good scoring chance for the opposition.

Playmakers, in general, have higher turnover numbers because that's what happens when you try to make plays ... Some if it is bad habits that he'll need to work out of his game from over handling the puck, some of it requires him to get stronger on the puck so he can stay upright, and some of it is looking for that perfect pass.

Marner plays only half of the power play and takes his shift like all other players. In fact Marner has sat out a few shifts over the three games. I don't see the turnovers that you mention. He is very good defensively and always back checks. His main faults are that he doesn't shoot enough and needs to adjust from the OHL game to higher competition. He's generally a slow starter and needs time to get going with new teammates. Probably was a mistake not to play him in those two university games. I understand that so far he has underwhelmed but that's only 3 games in. He will come on in the next games. I am confident of that.

We were on a bit of a roll, nice while it lasted.

I'm usually the one who won't let something go. I guess it's my comeuppance.

I would just like to read about the team as a whole and what needs to be done to improve. We seem to be the only ones who feel this way. Instead, all I see is Marner bashing.

Yup, it's a team game. I think we can all agree everyone needs to play better. The entire team has been soft and hasn't played the Canadian way. Where Canada is right now is on everyone (including the coaches).

Hopefully they come out and finish their checks, stop being cute with the puck, and roll 4 lines with 35-45 second shifts. Attack in relentless waves. Add in some good goaltending and we'll be fine.

That's not the reason that the US is outscoring them 10-1 (with a period still to go) and Canada needed a shootout to win.

The Swiss threw everything they had at us yesterday. Despite the massive effort, they came up short. That in itself is demoralizing enough for Switzerland, let alone getting the yanks less than 24 hours later.

It didn't look like the Swiss had anything left in the tank today.

I'm not worried about the difference in scores. I think we'll step it up as the competition and gravity of the games increase.

Yup x 2.

Besides, minus last year, how many times have teams gone on rolls and won Gold after having a terrible preliminary round?

Russia in 2011. The U.S. in 2013. Finland in 2014. This team has a LONG way to go but... Let's just wait and see.

Anyone defending Marner's play and his performance so far is a massive homer, huge Leafs or Knights fan and can't see the reality of the situation, he has been mediocre at best so far. So what he has made nice plays a few times from the perimeter and created some chances, but he has passed up glorious chances, he looks weak on the puck and his overall speed is average. You can see this in the OHL as well, he feasts on bad teams, and just piles up PP points. Not hard to score at a insane rate when you play 2 min PP's, take minute and a half shifts and have a stacked team overall.

That's quite the generalization. I'm a fan of neither team or Marner but I've been blown away by his play. Most noticeable guy on the ice by far.

While you're drawing sweeping generalizations, I'll make one too. I would say all the posters bashing Marner are leaf/knights haters with a clear agenda. It's some kind of strange unhealthy jealousy/obsession. Kinda pathetic and sad.

The kid is by far the best player on the team. Will he make mistakes? Sure, but every shift he stands out to me. Always making something happen. This is his first time at this tournament and he's been great. Compare his performance this year to Matthews first WJ last year. Matthews completely crapped the bed and he's this year's projected first overall. Ive watched every team USA game this year too and Matthew has been very average to me. I read the Team USA threads and he's not being demolished over there like Marner is here.

Because Marner has been invisible thats why hes getting trashed. Hes getting the minutes and not providing anything. Hes almost been as useless as Virtanen thus far

I will give 10 VDollars/VCash to everyone who does not talk about Marner.
