Ok, I'm curious why you feel Marner and Dermott have been the "STARS" of this team? Just a question.

Lol....stars....hahaha. There have been no stars so far.

It was an attempt at sarcasm and/or humour but I can understand why that might be hard to identify.

He is baiting lol

I honestly can't remember another year that the world junior talk has been this unsufferable. Like other years it is bad but it is getting to the point that the GDT is pretty well unreadable and this thread is honestly just as bad. Here is a hint to the people that seem to want to bash one or two players, if this team fails it is because the entire team wasn't good enough not one player. It is sad that the talk on here has sunk so low.

Seems pretty obvious. What's the one thing they both have in common?

It's a joke. But it is literally how a lot of you guys sound over and over again. Debate the point not the poster/team ffs. It's annoying.

Ah, I haven't been reading this thread for obvious reasons and missed that. Thanks for clarifying.

Yes and im the only one trashing him? Look around theres a lot more people trashing him then praising him. For a 4th Overall pick he should be producing a lot more than he has. By the way Crossbar and post dont matter. Close only counts in Curling and Horseshoes there bud

O rly?

Ryan Johansen - 9 points in 7 games
Evander Kane - 6 points in 6 games
Nicklas Backstrom - 7 points in 6 games (18 yrs), 7 points in 7 games (19 yrs)
Benoit Pouliot - 5 points in 6 games
Andrew Ladd - 7 points in 6 games (19 yrs)
Nikolai Zherdev - 1 point in 6 games
Stephen Weiss - 4 points in 6 games
Pavel Brendl - 10 points in 7 games (19 yrs)
Paul Kariya - 8 points in 7 games (17 yrs), 8 points in 7 games (18 yrs)

Looks to me like Marner's production so far is exactly where it should be for an 18 year old 4th overall pick. Your agenda is showing!! Busted! Haha!

This coaching is awful. On the other hand, Marner has looked by far like the most skilled player, he just needs to calm it down, kid looks nervous.

Disagree with that assessment. I think both Barzal and Strome have shown similar skill, more or less.

I think Marner is the most offensively gifted player on the team - but I don't think it has come out in his play so far - and I really don't see how you can say that he has "looked by far like the most skilled player". This is not true at all.

Come on guys, let's wait at least for the next game, or next two to see what our team is really about. Sweden, and then probably Finland, will show us.

I'm expecting a good game tomorrow (from us)

Me, too. I just wish it meant something.

This team is tough to judge, they looked great against Sweden in the pre-tournament and against the U.S but against the Swiss they looked pretty bad. They are likely finishing 3rd but they haven't been that bad although they are some problems and they are tough problems to solve. The top players on this team seem to be struggling but there is a lot of depth and the defence has been good.

One thing this team needs to do is use their defencemen in the offensive zone. Switzerland collapsed infront of the net and had all 5 players in a box protecting infront of the goalie. The players kept forcing the pass and kept trying to come off the wall and shoot. The U.S beat us with point shots, Sweden got 3-4 of their goals from the point, Switzerland scored from the point, this team has to get shots on net from the point. Even if you get it to the point you can get it back down low to stretch the defence and create space for passing lanes.

Right now, they are forcing everything and need to change it up. I hope Lowry can identify that, I don't think he's an idiot as many think he is. He has a successful team in the WHL. This doesn't remind me of the 2013 or 2014 teams at all, this team has depth and skill throughout the line-up with good goaltending.

Agree. I did not see the U.S. game but most people seem to feel we had the better of the play until the 3rd U.S. goal off a deflection. I didn't think we looked bad against the Swiss - just desperate and scared.

As I said before, if we can get thru the Quarter Finals, I believe we will beat Sweden in a playoff game and beat the U.S. in a 2nd match-up. The Fins scare me. They looked unbeatable today. So fast. So comfortable on the big ice. They worry me.

I agree with blackwood. He is much better than mcdonald and will play the rest of the games for cananda

He looks very steady. We will see how he progresses once he shakes off all the rust

I have zero faith in Macdonald. Blackwood will take us as far as we will go.

Most skilled leaves a lot to interpretation, what exactly does most skilled mean? If dangling and stickhanding is what we are focusing on. Then yes, Marner would be right up there in the most skilled conversation.

I like to look at skills as more than just the obvious skills. But if we break it down to stickhandling, skating, shooting, passing, and hockey IQ. I think Strome and Barzal's skills are pretty good also. Barzal is the best skater of the 3, Strome hockey iQ, and Marner stickhandling.

I don't think this is Team Canada team that has a standout star, that is well ahead in the skills dept like a Mcdavid was last year. This is why as mentioned by many experts, this team needs to score by committee.

HAHA what??? Most uninformed, biased post of the day. Marner is a top 3 forward on the team, producing at a average pace for a #4 OA pick.

and the saying is, "close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades"...like what?

I get the feeling that this team has not played their best hockey. The Sweden game is not useless, it can be a huge momentum builder if we play well. Canada will be dangerous in the eliminations.

Blackwood is a serious X factor. He played well against the Swiss and can make some key saves. He's more than capable of stealing a game for us.

Thanks, Nostradamus.

If the past three games have represented the team's best hockey, we might be looking at one of the worst Cdn jr teams of all time.

Better than just claiming "_____ sucks", the negativity is a whole other level of ridiculous.

I've been hard on some of these players myself but it's getting crazy, and I have faith that the boys will step up and play better.

Oh, so do I.

And, sorry - I was pretty snarky to you.

In any event, I do have confidence in this team. I'm really not down on the team's roster at all. I truly believe that the roster they brought to Helsinki is a roster that can win gold, even after seeing the other teams.

My main complaint with this team is the coaching - I feel that coaching, more than any other factor, is what is resulting in the team's lukewarm play so far.

I feel that Marner has far better play in him than he's shown so far. Under no circumstances do I agree with posts I've seen that have said he's terrible or anything like that - but I truly believe he is currently able to be a much better player at this tournament than he has been. I think that the team *can* win at this tournament if he, Barzal, and Strome get to the top of their respective games. I think Strome and Barzal have been really strong so far - but I also feel that even saying that both of them have another gear they can access.

I would like to see more of Konecny.

As far as the defense goes...I feel like better play is available with better coaching and less mind-numbing player allocation (which, I guess, circles back to 'better coaching').

Re: goal - I thought Blackwood was okay in that Switzerland game - he didn't terrify me and I'm fine with him going forward.

I honestly think that if we go out early it will be because of poor coaching and if we achieve a good result it will because of players performing despite poor coaching.
