Okay, you are REALLY going out of your way to hate on Kopitar these days. It's getting really tiresome because you try to veil it behind reason but this is completely petty.

This is a load of crap. I said he had a great game last night. Then someone comes in and gives me crap for pointing out that in most years he slumps for 15-20 games in the Dec/Jan time frame. Is that not true? I didn't bring it up, someone else did.

It's not petty. It's the f'ing truth. Kopitar had a great game last night against inferior competition. Glad he dominated last night, because if he didn't there is really something wrong.

Having you post this junk is getting tiresome. I can have an opinion. It doesn't have to conform with your opinion. ANY team that gives ANY player approaching 30 years of age an 8-year, close to $10M AAV contract is making a mistake.

Whining about his primary assists to further your agenda is an opinion, you're right, it's just a pathetic and terrible opinion to continue to support. No need to whine about his contract here because it's OT. Get over it.

Dropping platitudes like "yeah he had a great game last night" is bullhonky if you're going to follow it up with crap backhanded compliments and **** like yeahhhh but he didn't really EARN his primary assists. I honestly can't think of another word but 'pathetic' for your inability to enjoy Kopitar playing well. You're actively looking for reasons to chip away at his worth.

Edit: and no the slump thing is pretty untrue as borne out by the monthly splits, that myth has already been debunked.

Didn't see the lines.
What would you do with King and Clifford? Who goes?

I think Clifford is perma****ed after that atrocious Hedman headshot. So either Nolan/AA would be replaced by Gagner/King. It never hurts to have some center depth, the only thing is the price is a bit high. I think our D is OK for now.

I believe both Gagner and Gomez are going to clear though. SJ should just claim both and then bring in M. Richards for an ultimate washed up reunion.

That's an issue for me there too. Is that at somepoint DL will need to upgrade the D, and if Gagner is claimed there will be no cap space to do it.

I think Toronto should claim him and then retain 50% on him making his cap 1.6M for a 4th...buying a lotto ticket but their team can afford it

Kings17 come across as a strong Kings fan who tries to avoid the rose-colored glasses. It might feel like a cold splash of water, but it's logical and avoids homerism. I usually agree with him.

So, in a nod to Captain Mittens and in defense of K17,

I didn't whine about Kopitar's primary assist on Toffoli's goal. Go back and watch the replay on the first goal. Lucic made that play happen with his centering pass, which Kopitar barely got his stick on, but people are commenting on the "chemistry" that everyone seems to think is suddenly there between Toffoli and Kopitar.

Toffoli is hotter than a pistol right now. That happens with him quite often. You are looking for something that isn't there.

Please, it's not a myth. Kopitar has long scoring slumps that are not what one expects from a 1C that wants $10M a season. He is a great player, but his next contract will hurt the team if he insists on a ridiculous AAV.

You don't suppose that...people are maybe talking about NOT ONLY the production play?

And again, no more contract references, they're going to get deleted as spam/OT.

it's not that black and white.
If LA makes the western finals with Kopitar signed fro almost 10M 2 years out of that 8 it will be worth it IMO as I do not see how they get there in the next 8 without him.
It would be interesting to know how much playoff revenue could be attributed to Kopitar to see just from an investment stand point what kind of contract would make sense. Break even point and such.
Do I think 6 years from now you will be able to tell everyone here how you told us his deal would be an anchor? Absolutely.
However I think it is still worth it as this team has potential to win it all in the front part of that deal. You do not ice a team with the caliber of Doughty, Quick, Carter, Kopitar very often in a lifetime (ask leaf fans) so can't we just say **** it and enjoy the product that LA currently can ice?

Sorry, but I am not allowed to comment on his contract. I am enjoying this era of Kings hockey. After waiting 45 years for a Stanley Cup it is very satisfying.

Realistically though, what D man could we acquire this year that would be an improvement, someone we could afford, and a player that is a right handed shot? The list is pretty short, and center is more important than D anyways. Off top, I guess Jeff Petry? Would he really be worth giving up even more assets to slightly improve the D?

I dunno, is Petry really so much better than Forbort or Ehrhoff that he is worth giving up more assets from a depleted cupboard? I'm leaning toward, "no".

he is injured right now but I wonder what a player like Pysyk would cost. I think he would be an improvement this year on Ehrhoff and Forbort but also provide balance going forward. Sort of a swing for the fences sort of thing

I agree, that's kind of my point. Who else is there to trade for that fits all the criteria I mentioned? I don't even think many teams are willing to make trades like that this year. That's why I'm kind of in favor of acquiring Gagner, I feel like our coaching staff might be able to turn him around.

Forgot about Pysyk, now I wouldn't mind a trade for him. So many ****ing ex-Sabres on the blueline though...

Was there supposed to be a "?" after contract? If so then yes...i don't know what you want me to say

Also, Tyson Barrie would be another decent RH D-man. Weren't there rumors of him being moved about a month ago?

no one will "get it" out of their systems till it is signed and LA has another cup

The reason the Kopitar thread got closed was because no one could act like grownups.

Chat here if you want, but if this one degenerates the same way, infractions and threadbans will follow.

RR worked out as is McNabb
