I am hoping when others get healthy, Weal/Mersch/Forbort are sent down. None of these guys are NHL caliber ready at this point in their careers.

Unless they get another d-man, it's Forbort or Schultz as the 7th guy. If Lombardi can help it, he probably doesn't want to lose Weal for nothing. If someone were to pick him off waivers, which may or may not happen. He could be the 14th forward.

If healthy, but with Greene out, and without any deals, I'd say Mersch would be sent down.

Stupid Voynov.

was just taking with a co-worker that LA really missed Voynov. he was their top PP d-man, and could do everything from kill penalties and eat big minutes. Took a lot of pressure off of drew, and was signed to a bargain contract. Plus was a right handed shot.

agreed. which would be the right thing to do from an asset management POV. I think it wil lbe good for the development of him too. He got a taste and will know more what the expectation in the NHL is like.

Our top 4 defense is as good as most teams in the league. We need a vet bottom pair guy to rotate in with the two that are playing. Our top four is set and very solid only a few teams have better top 4 than us.

Maybe the top 3, but when McNabb is getting top 4 minutes, I think a good majority will disagree with you. It's like having Matt Greene in a top 4 role. He doesn't belong in there.

This I like McNabb and think he will be great in time, but him playing with drew means drew has to shelter him and play as aggressive as I like.
Team needs a top 4 to bump down McNabb, plus at some point one of the top four will get banged up. It happens to every team almost every year. How scary will our D be when that happens.

If Muzzin/Drew gets injured, this team is screwed. Need a Top 4 Veteran D.

Yes, as well as Martinez is playing I don't think he can anchor the 2nd pairing. Muzzin has really come into his own. Just goes to show that you never know what path some of these guys will take. Good player development is the key to everything for the Kings over the next few years.

The Kings are fortunate to have some guys on discounted AAV contracts in Muzzin, Carter, Toffoli, and Lucic (with Boston retaining some cap hit).

Our defense is not going to Hurt us in the playoffs if we don't acquire someone when we are one of the best defensive teams in the league. However, I can see Dean get someone with some experience but not to costly, what he should worry abouut improving the most. Our bottom 6 is terrible , we have no skill or goal scoring from the bottom 6. We need a 3rd line center badly.

King will provide some scoring from bottom 6 which will help

King- New Guy-Brown
Clifford-Shore-Lewis

1 Center makes the world of a difference of having the best 4th line in league.

Of Gaborik's 7 goals, Kopitar has assisted on 4 of them. The one in the Buffalo game on the 2-on-1, the Chicago OT winner, another goal against Chicago where Seabrook turned it over on a flubbed pass and Kopitar got to the puck, and then one in Florida. The one against the Panthers was one of those loft passes off the glass that Gaborik caught up with and went in on a semi-break.

Of Kopitar's 9 goals, Gaborik has assisted on 1, in Montreal, and it was the 2nd assist. The goal really happened on a good pass from Doughty. That's 9 goals with 1 secondary assist.

If we're looking for new line combo's, what is keeping Kopitar and Gaborik together? How many ES goals, with offensive zone pressure, have they combined on? Maybe Lucic isn't the one dragging that line down. Maybe that combo just isn't clicking. 30+ games in, and the Kopitar/Gaborik duo has little more than just a couple ES goals together.

Been saying Gabo has been garbage all year, he has. It is, what it is.

All sorts of teams have had injuries. I wouldn't even consider Greene injury to be one. It's more of a roster cut in disguise. So, not counting that, the only D out of the 7 not available to play was Forbort when he was ill! And Muzzin at start a few games. So...., keep your fingers crossed, but teams all over have had their prospects playing. That's what would happen. We'd see lots of Forbort, perhaps Gravel, God forbid Schultz. You just can't GO get another D! It ain't that simple! It is why it's important to win games when everyone is healthy. That way if someone gets hurt, and you take a slide in the standings, you can still make the playoffs! Two points are the same no matter when.

We'd see what Forbort is made of. He hasn't had a good sample size for us to judge him on. It's not easy with how he's been in and out of lineup, so I personally cut the kid some slack. If he were to play 8 straight games with about 15 minutes each, I think we'd have a better idea on whether he's going to stick. Right now you just can't tell. I'm in the camp that thinks he couldn't play any worse than a couple guys. I don't think DS should have him in now. The team is set up well with the pairs now, and things like PP and PK.

Found it funny that people thought we were going to can him if we could get away with keeping him. He was on a really good contract, and while people liked to talk about "how his play sucked" because he wasn't scoring like he did when he first joined the team... He was solid defence and did a pretty damn good job in his own end when he wasn't kicking pucks in. Even then, the only reason he had so many go off his feet was because he was always near the net, pushing guys out of the way. He really did good for us.
No support for him as a person, no invite for him to my Christmas dinner, and I was fine even happy with him leaving the country, its what he deserves... But even with him being a piece of **** I would have watched him play sports. I'm under no illusion that professional athletes are good people, I figure the % of pieces of **** is probably slightly higher then normal life... And he would have definitely made the team better on ice. LA REAL early took a position that "We are letting the courts handle the issue" so that once he had appeased the courts and could legally play they could say "We left it to the courts, and they say he has paid his debt"

Would have been awesome, for a good number of reasons, if he didn't turn out to be such an *******.

that's an interesting insight. on the other hand: kopi's production stats fell apart after looch joined the line. before that kopi was at 12 points in last 12 games and 4th in the league in +/-, after that he managed 0 points and -6 in just two games. the sample is obviously much too small, but the point is that he performed well with gabby on ice even without gaborik contributing. and that's broken now.

So how about some MINOR deals for LA...

K. Miller + 2016 3rd for Nolan (helps to replace Greene and gives LA another gritty RHD)

J. Campbell for a pick (gives them a young goalie for AHL. Was good but struggling)

Ehrhoff + Andreoff for D. Moore + Etem (helps 3rd line center and fast winger for bottom 6)

Lucic--Kopitar--Gaborik
Pearson--Carter--Toffoli
King--Moore--Brown
Etem--Shore--Lewis
Weal

McNabb--Doughty
Muzzin--Martinez
McBain--Miller
Forbort

Edit: that's a lot of M's on defense

28. It’s difficult to pinpoint when Anze Kopitar’s extension will be announced, but after momentum stalled, things are grinding toward a conclusion. The money will be somewhere between $9.75M-$10M per season over eight years. Whatever the trade protection issue was, that’s settled. It’s like waiting for the Starkiller to power up. It’ll be big when it finally happens.

they settled issue with NMC/NTC as he says in video.

Continue.

Lebrun just stealing my Big Buff idea.

I've been floating that around on twitter for a month now.

He'd really be perfect for this season. Very few good right handed top pairing D out there. Time to move Muzz back to Doughty, Ehrhoff with Buff would be solid and Jazz Hands with McNabb.

WPG would have to take back a lot of cap to make it happen.
