Too bad he won't play more games. He was so good. I think he's the real deal.

Pilgore, you know more about Chabot than any of us. How do you see his path to the NHL happening? Do you think he'll play in the AHL at some point or he could go straight to the NHL from juniors after this year or the next?

It's going to be interesting... if he improves this season and then has a solid development camp, and pre-season again he is going to make it very difficult for the team to send him back to junior again (I don't believe he is AHL eligible until 2017-2018).

I think he will be in junior this season and next, and should be able to transition into the NHL quickly at 20, whether that's starting the season in the AHL like Ceci or straight to the big club.

That said, he has possibly shown the most, and quickest progression of any 2015 draftee, and I expect that to continue this season. It will be easier to judge come December.

I'd expect him to be among the top 3-5 D in the CHL next season. (16-17)

I agree as well, I think he's gonna be PPG or more this year.

What kind of season do you think Chalpik will have btw?

I honestly think he has a good shot at 100 points. Hopefully he proves me right.

Up a tree
Chabot might have gotten 1 more game but when they signed Fraser they likely promised him at least a preseason game. There was no sense keeping Chabot here just to watch. He did really well and this is another case of a junior player who could have ended up in the AHL if it was allowed. The Sens probably would have loved to be able to recall him if they could but unfortunately there is no out clause for junior players.

I'm expecting ~50-55 points for Chabot

~85-100 points for Chlapik

In the meantime Jeremy Roy has 6 points in 2 games since returning from SJ camp.
Let's see what Chabot got.

I think the best thing for Chabot is to really dominate in junior for the next two seasons. It will also give him time to develop the muscle he needs and offensive game (his shot) in a more forgiving environment.

After watching Lazar last year.....I don't want to do that again. I don't want a kid playing an entire rookie season in the NHL in "safe mode". I want our kids to have the freedom to work on their game, experiment, take risks, and develop. If that means a year in junior where they are a little 'too good,' then so be it.

Not the same kind of player

Roy is going to have better offensive numbers, anyone expecting Chabot to outproduce Roy in the Q are set for disappointment.

I will never understand the insecurity with how Lazar was handled. Each player is a case by case scenario. Lazar was a hell of a lot better to assert himself as a player in the NHL last year than Chabot would be this year.

Plenty of players develop their scoring over time, developing from depth roles. Playing in junior wasn't gonna turn Lazar into a future 40 goal scorer. The only thing it did was you watched him in the NHL earlier in his developmental time frame and you saw him farther from his peak than you would most players. It's just as easy to say junior hockey would have been too easy for him and he wouldn't have had to improve much to dominate. He's 20 years old and his second season hasn't started and people think it was already a mistake. lol

This is troublesome as some people here seem to believe that's the only way to evaluate a player.

Even as Habs fan....I will applaud this post. ;) You are totally right....Roy might very well be the most producing d-man in Juniors....it still doesn't change the fact that Chabot will be the best NHL d-man out of the 2 in a few years. I have NO DOUBT that Chabot will end up being a top 3 d-man. It's totally NOT as sure for Roy. Roy's deficiencies are not going to show immensely at a junior level. But he's "junior" energetic enough to create everything on his own. While Chabot is mostly a d-man that will create stuff too....but mostly count on the effectiveness of others to be great offensively. Yet.....it means NOTHING as far as becoming a NHL'er. Not saying Roy won't be....I like him too. Just think Chabot will be much more complete.

You guys got a great one in your system. Just appreciate it....as I'm sure that preseason did just that for mostly the ones who didn't know him.

It's unfortunate for sure, many will complain we never took Roy because of the numbers. Chabot has a much better toolbox to go along with his rapidly improving, already impressive tools.

Chabot has a Redden like impact on the breakout, and has the effortless skating ability of no one we have seen on the backend outside Karlsson (not saying he's Karlsson***)

The two will be compared, but those who look at stats will be very vocal (as per usual) about Roy > Chabot. It isn't the case when watching them play and projecting their compatibility.

It's mostly about repetition. Lazar hustled last year and worked his butt off, and played a very responsible defensive games...which is terrific. But, he didn't get many offensive chances with the puck. He didn't get the chance to spend the season going through a few guys and dipsy-doodling with he puck and making skilled offensive plays on a regular basis like he would've in junior.

I'm not suggesting Lazar would magically become a 30 or 40 goal scorer in the NHL with that extra year to "play" with the puck like that, but it would've helped smooth out his hands just a little bit more. Just enough to boost his NHL goals average (down the road, once his career is over), by maybe 1-to-5 goals per season....if you know what I mean. Turn a guy who would normally be a solid 10 goal guy into a 15 goal guy average (or whatever the team projects him to be). Not making him a star, but just being able to cash in on his chances 1-to-5 more times over the course of a season changes his overall value to a team so much.

It can still happen. A guy with a great work ethic can will his way to doing amazing things. But, it probably would've be a bit safer, or a bit more likely to happen with all the extra "puck time" in junior.

Just my though on it, anyways.

Kinda reminds me of the Mantha debate among the prospects that year. People look at the number of goals Mantha would score, but completely ignore the rest of his game (which was non-existent).

Bush league move by Murray the used car salesman. Signs this guy just for the photo op and then turns around and waives him.

Wouldn't surprise to see him bolt overseas like all our other young stars (Wikstrand, Da Costa, Rundblad, Filly, etc)
