Come now Bonkie, it's not like you to relegate my post to the lowest common denominator!
I'm not arguing to keep Chabot up at this point, but am extending a previous post from another poster.
Sure, players may be stunted, though factually there is no possible way to know given that once a player has been 'stunted' there is no way to know whether they would have been better had they stayed in junior for another year. It is a fall back device to explain why players sometimes don't live up to the hype. Could be a real issue, may not be, and is certainly requires a case by case analysis.
In addition, if a player shows that they can play well in the 9 games and be a valuable member of the team, there should be little fear that they will all of a sudden be stunted because they're not relegated to be playing with kids any more.
Also, 18 year olds making the jump don't do it when they are playing marginally better than you 6-7th dman (your example). They make it when they are playing at a top 4 calibre and are clearly better than your 5,6,7 options at least (my example).
Chabot at the moment is playing better than anyone not named Ceci, EK, and presumably Methot. Pre-season etc, and I'm not saying he should stay up, but if his confidence continues to grow, and he continues to be our third best option, there will be a discussion. Murray alluded to the fact that there will be a discussion, though at the moment they are leaning towards returning him.
I'm interested to see what happens, and don't think that playing in the NHL is automatically stunting to 18-19 year olds. If they have the moxie and the skills, it can be the best thing for them.
