I thought Yakupov was called up?

He didnt make oilers medical test, though im not sure he wanted to go since he had to fight for the spot and earn it during the pre-WC games against sweden this weekend.

Oh and by the way, Pittsburgh just lost to rangers so both Pittsburgh and Washington are down 1-2 and we could start counting on malkin, ovechkin and kuznetsov., hope that Znarok leaves some room for tarasenko if things were going that way (Minnesota has 2-0 right now in the third game and are about to get a 2-1 lead in that match series as well).

Great update!
Someone recently said that Radulov was coming to the team anyway, do you (or anyone else) possibly have any further information about that?

But I wonder what it is that we should test them for? Those guys should be tested during Euro Hockey Tour and this year was a dissaster compared to the other years.
World Championships are to win and we should have the best players we could possibly get.
It's not that we should have all the old guys, but a lot of them, like the old kazan players and that Olympic roster of 2010 is more or less out already.
I don´t want to see a whole new generation as the coaches did in 2003-2005, that was a pain to watch.

You persuaded me. It is worth the effort to win World Championships, because winning championships builds interest around the country, especially among youth that we want to aspire to excellence on the ice. They should get the best guys together to represent Russia, and let's face it, its still a fact that our best players are in the NHL. But I do look forward to building a strong enough base with KHL players so that it doesn't matter which teams are still in the NHL playoff in order to win World Championships.

If we don't win the gold medal against C-D teams of other nations for yet another time won't be a tragedy at all...

Indeed! Breaking from NHL-players and have a KHL-team that can take those gold medals would be the best, too bad players like tarasenko and kuznetsov went over there and didn´t follow Kovalchuk and all those other former NHL players and stayed.
If this would be a few years back when we had Morozov and those guys in best shape, fine, but I think that from what we saw in EHT this year it doesnt look well :(

I think you're wrong there. When we beat hosts Sweden in 2012 by 7-3 they had more or less an olympic team (and so did we), also this year we have Czech Republic at home bringing motivated NHLers, Canada are having their best team in years and Sweden is getting tons of players, more or less the same power as their teams in 2012 and 2013 I would say.

Burdasov and Rukavishnikov? Tikhonov had a rough season. I'm surprised so many SKA players were called up, especially considering there's little more than a week remaining before the tournament and many players are going to be cut.

They say a chance that Radulov will play in the WHC is very slim. Pity.

Nichushkin is going to play with Mozyakin and Popov, btw. Not sure is it good or bad. Perhaps it's just for Eurotour vs Sweden.

Tikhonov had a very tough year in personal life, he was the best scorer last year, Znarok called him because he played with injuries and because he acknowledges his faith to the cause. I think it was good to call him at least for pre-tournament games, and hopefully next year he'll be back stronger than ever.

Pittsburgh is now down by 3-1 in games vs NY Rangers and its just a matter of time before Malkin becomes available, but what has he been doing so far in the play offs? 4 games with 0 points and -1, he is playing more or less as much as Crosby and more in PP.
Is he injured or something?

Yes, he isn't fully healthy. He said "approximately 85%".

Do you think he is likely to go to World Champs in that condition/will Pittsburgh let him go?

Kabanov is fantastic in SHL....

If he was playing in KHL, he would made the WC...

Well, as far as I remember he burnt some bridges between him and Russian hockey federation. Or even all bridges. He wasn't very likable person on a youth level, so why would anybody invite him nowadays?

today lines vs Sweden

Khudobin

Yakovlev-Grigoryev
Mironov-Zubarev
Antipin-Kulikov
Rukavishnikov-Blazhievskiy

Averin-Apalkov-Plotnikov
Slepyshev-Loktionov-Kokarev
Mozyakin-Popov-Nichushkin
Burdasov-Burmistrov-Tikhonov
Shirokov

At least Nichushkin and Mozyakin made a goal. I hope Val will make the team now. And it should be a different game tomorrow with Bob, Kovy and other SKA stars, and NHLers.

Well, lets hope that the effort shown in the first half of the match will never be repeated again ever, imo the ref ruined the last minute of the match when Russia had the speed up and just pulled the goalie. Blew the whistle every 15th second and most of the times for no reason...

Hehe, it was a fun game. I think Mozyakin, Popov and Nichushkin are in. Not sure about Tikhonov. And Khudobin I don't like. In Bob we trust.
