I got over the loss. This means that other countries are slowly getting better. France had 3 players who played in the NHL at some point or do. Da Costa, Roussell, and Huet, then they have Tim Bozon as a prospect. I like this. It makes international hockey more diverse instead of the usual 10 teams we always see. I want something like FIFA were 30+ teams could win the world cup. Although that won't happen for awhile it would be interesting for sure.

So I went over to the GDT thread for the Switzerland/Russia game on the International Hockey board and asked about Sven's injury and apparently there was no incident to make anyone think something was wrong. He just never came out for the 3rd period.

^^^ Despite him going to the hospital, you gotta think that's somewhat of a good sign being that he would of skated off on his own. My suspicion is that it's a concussion and hopefully it's not to serious.

Could be shoulder too, but no matter what the injury is I agree, hopefully nothing serious.

Broken rib(s) apparently. Link from getbak at the other forum:

Glad it wasn't another concussion. But what a disaster of a season for Sven. :( Dude needs a total mental reset in the summer.
You can't just look at offensive numbers and call it a disaster. He was healthy for the most part this year, his numbers were down but he has shown improvement on the defensive side of the puck. I'd say it was a good season for him in terms of growth as a complete player.

Maybe "disaster" was an exaggeration, but his season did not go the way anyone planned. This was the year he was going to establish himself as an NHLer and instead got demoted, struggled, picked it up, struggled again and then broke his ribs. Just a lot of adversity while guys like Granlund and Reinhart seemed to pass him by on the depth chart with ease.

At least there should be no lack of motivation for him in the prospect/training camps this year.

Maybe it's because I saw him so much in Abbotsford last year, but it didn't shock me at all that Baertschi was send to the AHL for the majority of the season. I complained about his "compete" when he was with Abbotsford last year as well. When he didn't show up to the prospects camp with the right attitude and performed poorly in main camp I thought he should have been demoted before the start of the season. I hated that he was handed a roster spot and didn't have to earn it.

While countries have been getting better, it is still embarrassing that Canada lost to France; you can't really spin it another way.

It's a damn shame about Baertschi. Him against Gaudreau would have been great to watch today. A damn shame.

Luckily, a broken rib is nothing serious in terms of career implications.

Backs with both goals for Sweden so far vs Denmark.

Side note, I love Sweden's goal song so much(theme song from Sweden WC in 2013). It's so unbelievably cheesy it's amazing.

Sure I can. I am not going to get mad over a game. **** happens. I want Canada to win, but if a country like that has the opportunity to win good on them. They need it more than us. Its not he end of the world we lost to France.

You look at a player like Backlund, all the injury trouble he had for 2-3 seasons. It motivated him to really work his butt off in the weight room. A broken rib is not serious at all, I really hope Sven comes to camp hungry and in shape. I still have very high hopes for this kid.

I don't think anyone worked harder last off season that Backlund, and it paid off big time. If he can sort of take Sven under his wing and teach him the mental side of getting through injuries, it could really help.

I can't wait to watch backs again next year, he was without a doubt the most exciting part of our team last season.

That's not what I meant by "you can't spin it in another way."

Still embarrassing to an extent

oh well, like you said, not a huge deal by any means.. Just hope the boys come out harder for today!

I hope Money gets more ice time too

The one game I went to live last season against the Ducks, it was evident to me that he was easily the best player on the Flames. I think he'll break 50 points next season.

Gardiner is awful. Keeps dangling at the opposition blueline and his guys go offside or he turns it over.
