Honestly, I never thought he looked small in the one game he played, I was never able to look and be like oh that tiny guy is Gaudreau, I had to find his number all game. He is very small, but he does not in any way play small and that is extremely important.

As far as your comments on who Sven will be competing with for spots, he will never be competing with Van Brabant, or Agostino. They fill a very different role from Sven, a 4th line role for Van Brabant and a 3rd line role for Agostino. Baertschi will be competing for a top 6 role or he will be in the AHL. He is not and never will be a bottom 6 forward. He is a top 6 or bust player in my opinion, and I do not in any way think that he will be the latter.

Baertschi is learning how to score consistently in professional hockey while at the same time not be a liability defensively. He knows it's a process, and by the sounds of it he is going to work very hard to get in the new GM's good books right off the hop. Something he failed to do with Brian Burke. Another year with Ward would also not go amiss with his development however much he would prefer to be in the NHL.
I agree with all this but I think you are underrating Agostino a bit. He may never be a dynamic NHL forward like Sven has the potential to be, but he has the potential to be very much like Curtis Glencross and if Baertschi doesn't turn into a dynamic 1st like forward and ends up a scoring 2nd line winger then he and Agostino could very much be battling for the same position. Different attributes for the 2 youngsters but them competing for a job is very much a possibility.

Ya, I've always just pictured Agostino to have the potential to be an elite 3rd line player, the type of player used like Backlund will be when all is said and done. Can get you a decent amount of depth points, will be used in every situation and can shut down the best of them. I feel that when our team is finished building, or at least competing, a player like Agostino will find himself on the 3rd line with Backlund and a RW to be named later. With Monahan and (Bennett, Reinhart, Draisatl) in the top 6, with Baertchi, Gaudreau, Colborne, and Poirier. Years in the future mind you, and also assuming all the players the flames have develop perfectly, which is rarely the case, but it's all just speculation anyhow.

Monahan had a shot on goal late in the first, looks to be getting some playing time, although thats the first I've noticed him.

I'm pretty sure he got 2 or 3 shifts during the 1st period, didn't he?

Allez les bleus anyone?

As a neutral observer it's great to see France with a big upset. I hope the improving national teams in Europe leads to an increase in the popularity of hockey in the future. There's lots of potential for the sport in Europe.

I'm guessing Monny had about 6-7 shifts all game, and Tippett decides to use him in the shootout, which I find ridiculous. Now he can relate to Big Ern for getting 4th line minutes

Bieksa is also a horrible player. Him as captain explains this team pretty much.

The MacKinnon line didn't do anything that whole game and they were out there for over 50% of the game. I'm pretty sure that line had over 30 minutes of play time. It's stupid. MacKinnon tricks coaches into thinking he's amazing because he controls the puck and skates fast. He didn't create any plays, he just kept hogging the puck and rushing into the zone. That only really helps if you have linemates that can finish, but when you've got a whole line of puck movers and playmakers it's hard to get a goal out of them.
I think the coach needs to really rethink his lines. Put Mackinnon on a line with Hodgson or Monahan. Play Burrows and Huberdeau less. There were some players out there that game that really, really did absolutely nothing to get Canada ahead.

Bieksa is a great player. Sure he is on the Canucks, but he is a player I would want on the Flames. He is a heart and soul kinda guy.

He was the only forward that created anything whenever he was on the ice tbf. I just think Burrows and Turris were overplayed as they clearly didn't perform up to standards, and I think Schenn could've been put on that top line to replace Burrows, then put Monahan as center on Schenn's old line.

I guess I should've said he was horrible that game, but he really was pretty bad. Can't count how many times he fumbled the puck on the offensive zone, and he was completely useless on the PP. He also had trouble getting shots through, let alone passes through.

I hope its not to serious in the grand scheme. Any word if it is a head, neck or shoulder injury? He seems to get alot of those.

Hope he heals quickly.
