Exactly.

More points.

Better.

I deal in absolutes.

You deal in a complete lack of context. You deal in arbitrary declarations of what's good and what isn't rather than putting actual thought into matters. This is how we get people saying Klein's just as good as Stralman because points. Here's an absolute for you: Good process serves as a better indicator of future production than does past production. If you think Kane is better than Kreider then make an actual case for it.

I'm perfectly fine with losing Poo. We have enough prospects that could fill in and provide 36 points for less money than he is looking for.

Oh man, not a good start at all to the offseason. Pouliot is a really good 3rd line player.

he absolutely is. but eventually these kids are going to need to start playing. Miller, Fasth, Duclair, Bourque, etc.

theres gonna be kids pushing their way.

we're going to have to accept their growing pains.

Bye bye, Pou?

Renaud Lavoie ‏@renlavoietva 7s
Around 10 teams showed interest so far to Benoit Pouliot. He's looking for a long term contract and he will get it. #tvasports #rangers

Not believing this french canadian. He's probably still butthurt about us knocking off his precious Montreal Canadiens. Why aren't any of the NY reporters reporting this?

lol wtf are you serious? Pretty repulsive post.

That guy is more legitimate than anyone that reports on the Rangers, so I'd take his word for it if I were you.

He's VERY reliable as a source. The NY reporters usually don't scoop anything or as in Brooks' case make stuff up.

A long time?

Record-wise, the 2013 Rangers were as good as the 2014 Rangers.

You do realize there are other free agent defensemen right?

And considering the Rangers' success with Stralman, why can't they duplicate it with someone cheaper, maybe younger?

There's a salary cap. Overpaying Stralman and ignoring other options could hurt the team later on.

Those other free agent defensemen will be equally as paid as Stralman. So if you think he will be over-paid, so will they. Eapecially if they are 38 year old Dan Boyle at 5+ per.

I wouldn't mind finding the next Stralman. But so far all we have heard about is interest in Boyle.

There is a salary cap, which is why 4.5 for a player of Stralman's caliber is a bargain. Next summer it will be a steal of a contract. While Staal at 2+ million more will not be a bargain.

It took over a season to find the players to fill the lack of depth created by losing Dubinsky, Anisimov, Prust, Prospal.

That lack of depth is the reason the Rangers got eliminated in the second round. Give the core enough depth and a few extra shifts of rest and they have proven they can get far in the playoffs.

Stralman is part of that core.

J.T. Miller can replace Pouliot. Less confident about him replacing Richards.

i think we should prepare for a different looking team this fall.

we cant sign everyone. when you win, your fa's have leverage. other teams watched most of our games at the end when everyone else was playing golf. our fa's will have opportunities. if slats tries to lowball, he may miss his chance.

these guys are looking to cash. winning, to many, is secondary and the whole mercenary thing will rear its head again im sure.

if guys like poo, boyle and stralman walk away and chase their paydays and theres no richards anymore nor anyone to replace him, this team will look quite different.

major roster upheaval doesnt make me comfortable.

we are cap strapped. this next few days could kinda suck unless slats is on his game and his contingencies are solid.

To put things in perspective, Poo has been criticized and ousted from like 4-5 teams because he has been a perennial disappointment.

He played like absolute **** the first two months of the season. In fact, had this been any other coach, he likely would have been thrown on waivers and no one would have given two *****.

He had a career year afterwards, and yet he still only managed to score 36 points. To make matters worse for him, he was at no point a catalyst for that line. He simply took advantage of what Zucc and Brassard worked out for him. Put anyone with those two, particularly Zucc, and they become better.

I'm ok with losing Benoit. I'll be happy to watch him sign long term with a team, he just had a kid and deserves to try and break the bank with some team. But I'm not ok with us being that team.

Jesper Fast could probably produce at the same clip shooting at his measly 1.5 shot per game average on a line w/ Zucc.

It's when we start getting news of losing Boyle, D. Moore, and Stralman that will really bother me.

Agree.

This could be a pretty ugly summer.

Hopefully not. Hopefully they get creative and find some gems.

The cap situation we're in dictates that this is a certainty anyway.

I have no prob with growing pains. HOWEVER, there will come a time... like in April 2015... where any further growing pains, coupled with no significant moves (or means to make a move), may = no playoffs or an early exit.

We're in a tough spot ATM.

So thats the conclusion you come to with these stats?

How about how the Rangers team goal scoring hasn't moved a bit as a result? Or, more importantly, how Stralman's individual offense is non-existent?

I think Stralman is better than Klein, but not by the amount he'll be overpaid this offseason.

What? The Rangers offense benefits plenty from Stralman because his play makes the puck spend way more time in the offensive zone than the defensive zone.

I'm not really a stats guy, but couldn't that also be based on who the forward are on the ice? For example, who played the most with the Brassard line. They play a much heavier puck possession game.

It could, but when you look at the chart I posted a few pages back it's pretty clear: Almost every single Ranger to play with Stralman has seen his possession numbers go up when sharing the ice with him.

Sure, and to draw causality from that and laud Stralman alone is extremely silly.

The Rangers are 19-2 on Wednesdays in March when it rains for more than 1 hour.

Not all statistics show cause and effect.

Puck possession statistics do. The Kings have won two of the last three Stanley Cups. The stats rank them as the best possession team in the league over that time. Every single team to make the finals since they started tracking these numbers has been a top ranked possession team, with the exception of Pittsburgh. These same stats say that Stralman is really, really good and I'm inclined to believe them.

Fast replacing Pouliot is a bad decision, IMO. The difference in size and physical strength is an issue for a team that didn't have enough size and physicality.

Miller can replace Pouliot.

I'd even be willing to see if a kid like Duclair can do it because of his flat out elite level speed. But Fast isn't quite fast enough or quite skilled enough to make up for not being big enough for our needs.

The naked eye told us Stralman was one of the best, if not the best defensemen in his own end during the last two rounds postseason.

During the regular season he was very steady and consistent. The important thing was the continuity Vigneault inherited.

If letting Stralman walk means locking up Boyle and Moore, promoting Klein and calling up McIlrath, I'm fine with it.

I just don't see the defense crumbling if Stralman walks.
