You really couldn't think of any reasons?
His contract is up next year
We can sell high on him
We can re stock the picks we lost in the MSL deal
We can clear cap space to address a #1C, a problem that had plagued this team for years
He's not the greatest puck mover and many would argue we could benefit from some more offense out of our blue line
I could go on
Doesn't answer my question.
Why are we trading him for picks after making the SCF?
If we can't afford him, I bet he goes in a hockey trade, for another player to fill a weakness.
With Stralman supposedly leaving, there's no way we let him go anyway unless he wants to leave.
Nash to Florida in a deal involving their overflow of defensive prospects?
Nash uses his NMC before names are exchanged.
If Stralman walks, I don't see how we could afford to trade or let Staal go.

Rangers really need to trade Klein and lock up Stralman.
Bad management not to do so.
I don't know, either.
He could force his way out... but that time seems to have passed.
Tim Erixon did that for us several years ago and we got him for dirt cheap.
Paying Staal 1st pair money and letting Stralman walk is the worst possible scenario regarding the defense and FA situations in general. This off-season is not looking promising right now.
Boyle: Probably gone. Not a back breaker, but he will be missed.
Stralman: Not looking good. Could change the face of the defense depending on how they replace him. Staal will be overpaid.
Replacing Richards: Lots of rumors, most of them undesirable. Overall a pretty tough spot for the Rangers.
PPQB: Dan Boyle is asking too much. Not many other options floating around out there right now.
Richards was bought out though, and they got a 2nd back from Callahan, on the plus side.
Still lots of time left but so far things are not shaping up optimally or how I would have liked it to go personally. I'm hoping we get some more positive information today regarding FAs.

What is Stralman looking for? The Rangers shouldn't give anyone a blank check. $4M. 4-5 years. Anything more and he can get it from another team. Stralman will be overpaid. Looking at the free agent market for defensemen,Stralman will probably get more than the Rangers want to pay. Niskanen is getting 7 years as a free agent. This is why the Rangers acquired Kevin Klein. The Rangers had two right-handed shooting D as pending group III's. The Rangers signed Girardi. They are trying to sign Stralman. Klein will replace Stralman if they can't re-sign him. Some people will say the Rangers made a mistake in signing Girardi instead of Stralman. Where were those people last February? AV did say Klein can play top 4 minutes because he was a top 4 D in Nashville.
Can play top4 minutes and is fit to play top4 minutes are pretty different. Klein looked solid on the 3rd pair for most of the playoffs. He was a good fit there. I'm not sold on him being able to handle consistent top4 minutes.
No, they should not hand Stralman a blank check, but I wouldn't mind if they gave him a similar deal to Gaborik. They won't overpay Stralman but they are going to be forced to overpay Staal for the same reason they would have had to overpay Callahan. It's not that they don't deserve their payout, it's that they have fallen down the depth chart and the Rangers can't afford to pay them for the role they used to play or would be on another team.
