Wierd to think that as things are, come july 1, we only have 6 forwards and 4 defensemen signed...... FML... I really think the brassard and kreider RFAs are going to be complicated.

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
I saw Vrbata play 40+ times last year. No thanks.

I do gave a much higher opinion of Boyle than most though. Not interested at 2 years/$10 MM but interested. He wasn't nearly as bad last year as some people seem to think.

Vrbata is an older Moulson.

He's really not that good.

Guarantee he gets 5 million+.

Friedman.
The Jets are willing to trade Evander Kane. Zach Bogosian’s name has come up.

Price would probably be insane.. but imagine him with Mac on the PP!?

I wonder if Stralman doesn't resign, if that kind of throws a wrench in the offseason plan of the Rangers and they are more willing to do something more radical.

Yes. I really, really, really hope they could do it without Kreider/Stepan going the other way, though....otherwise, it would be a bad idea.

they couldn't trade Stepan lol.. and we dont need D bad enough to trade Kreider for one.. would love if they could somehow acquire him though.

I just can't see us going into next season with Stepan-Brassard-Miller-Moore down the middle. Unless JT explodes onto the scene (which I believe he will, just not this year) that C group is a significant downgrade from last years. My strategy would be this:

1. Resign Stralman/Brassard/Zuccarello/Kreider/Pouliot/Diaz to the most cap-friendly deals possible
2. Trade Staal for a package of picks including a 1st to clear cap space
3. Call up either McIlrath/Allen for the 3rd pairing
4. Sign Stastny

Gives us the following:

Kreider-Stastny-Nash
Hagelin-Stepan-MSL
Pouliot-Brassard-Zucc
Miller-Moore-Dorsett

Girardi-McDonagh
Stralman-Moore
Klein-McIlrath/Allen/Diaz

I haven't run the numbers on all this but I think it's definitely possible if we sign the question mark guys to good contracts. I think that's an extremely formidable roster for the regular season and playoffs. The forward depth at every position is insane, and so long as one of our rookie Dmen or Diaz can step up the defense will be fine. If not, we can always make moves at the deadline to shore it up

Stepan and Stastny as top two centers would be a huge mistake. They need someone more mobile and stastny's price tag will be at least 7 per year.

I freaking love Bogosian and would love him on this team.

That being said, I have no idea what the Jets would want from us.

Why the hell would we trade Staal for picks when we just made the cup finals?

I don't know, either.

He could force his way out... but that time seems to have passed.

Tim Erixon did that for us several years ago and we got him for dirt cheap.

He still cost us two 2nd picks iirc. If that's dirt cheap id like to know what Yakupov for a lesser price is

Saw on the trade boards that CHI has no room for Jeremy Morin, as they're keeping Sharp and Saad in as their top 6 LWs, and his game is not meant for a bottom 6 role.

If there's ever a player that was getting blocked and was ready to breakout, it's him. He's gotten better every year and still can't crack the Hawks' lineup.

I'd want to get in on that if we had more picks.

I mean, we do have 2 2nd round picks next year after Cally resigned with the Bolts. :sarcasm:

You really couldn't think of any reasons?

His contract is up next year

We can sell high on him

We can re stock the picks we lost in the MSL deal

We can clear cap space to address a #1C, a problem that had plagued this team for years

He's not the greatest puck mover and many would argue we could benefit from some more offense out of our blue line

I could go on
